  • To evaluate the toxicity of ophthalmic drug, the Draize test and Bovine Corneal Opacity and Permeability (BCOP) test commonly used. In Draize test, experimental animals were under stress and pain due to long-term exposure of drug. In addition, regarding physiological functions, animal model is not perfectly reflected a human eye condition. Although some models such as $EpiOcular^{TM}$, HCE model, LabCyte Cornea-Model, and MCTT $HCE^{TM}$ were already presented advanced cornea ex-vivo model to replace animal test. In this sense, cornea tissue structure mimicked ex-vivo toxicity model was fabricated in this study. The corneal epithelial cells (CECs) and keratocytes (CKs) isolated from rabbit eyeball were seeded on non-patterned silk film (n-pSF) and patterned silk film (pSF) at $32,500cells/cm^2$ and $6,500cells/cm^2$. Sequentially, n-pSF and pSF were stacked to mimic a multi-layered stroma structure. The thickness of films was about $15.63{\mu}m$ and the distance of patterns was about $3{\mu}m$. H&E stain was performed to confirm the cell proliferation on silk film. F-actin of CKs was also stained with Phalloidin to observe the cytoskeletal alignment along with patterns of the pSF. In the results, CECs and CKs were shown the good cell attachment on the n-pSF and pSFs. Proliferated cells expressed the specific phenotype of cornea epithelium and stroma. In conclusion, we successfully established the ex-vivo cornea toxicity model to replace the eye irritation tests. In further study, we will set up the human ex-vivo cornea toxicity model and then will evaluate the drug screening efficacy.

  • The direct-patternable $SnO_2$ thin film was successfully fabricated by photochemical metal-organic deposition. The composition and chemical bonding state of $SnO_2$ thin film were analyzed by using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) from the surface to the interface with Si substrate. XPS depth profiling analysis allowed the determination of the atomic composition in $SnO_2$ film as a function of depth through the evolution of four elements of C 1s, Si 2p, Sn 3d, and O 1s core level peaks. At the top surface, nearly stoichiometric $SnO_2$ composition (O/Sn ratio is 1.92.) was observed due to surface oxidation but deficiency of oxygen was increased to the interface of patterned $SnO_2/Si$ substrate where the O/Sn ratio was about 1.73~1.75 at the films. This O deficient state of the film may act as an n-type semiconductor and allow $SnO_2$ to be applied as a transparent electrode in optoelectronic applications.

  • This paper describes the preparation of boron-doped polycrystalline diamond thin film whose electrical resitivity is lower than $10^{-1}\Omega$cm. The 1$\times$1$\textrm{mm}^2$ microelectrodes, its conducting line with 0.2mm wide and 0.5$\times$0.5$\textrm{mm}^2$ pads was patterned by reactive ion beam etching. A glucose microsensor based on diamond film microelectrode and pyramidal containment produced on silicon by anisotropic etching was developed. Its advantages are high sensitivity and high stability.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the Korean red carpet fashion of Daejong, Bluedragon, Korean Film Awards from 2002 to 2004, focusing on nominates of female movie stars and presidents. Leading colors were black and white but pale and vivid colors were also chosen. Dresses were made of satin, chiffon, lace and velvet mainly, and patterned fabrics made strong statements among them. Based on the long and slim silhouette, there were lots of details using beads, sequins and crystal stones for manipulating lighting effects. Fur shawls along with diamond jewelry were favorite items of many stars. They preferred dresses of international brands to that of domestic brands. Esthetic qualities of red carpet fashion were categorized as decorative gorgeousness, sophisticated elegance, glamourous sensuality, paradoxical presentation, pure innocence, and Korean refinement.

  • We have developed a high performance vertical alignment TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display), that shows a high light transmittance, and wide viewing angle characteristics with an unusually high contrast ratio. In order to optimize the electro-optical properties we have studied the effect of cell parameters, multi-domain structure and retardation film compensation. With the optimized cell parameters and process conditions, we have achieved a 24" wide UXGA TFTLCD monitor (16:10 aspect ratio 1920X1200) showing a contrast ratio of over 500:1, panel transmittance near 4.5%, response time near 25 ms, and viewing angle higher than 80 degree in all directions.

  • Zinc oxide nanocrystals are attractive candidates for a solution-processable semiconductor for high performance thin film field effect transistors. We have studied ZnO thin film transistor fabricated by solution process and have improved $V_{th}$ by controlling the ZnO ink additives. Synthesized ZnO nanoparticles of 30nm were dispersed in solvent to make the ZnO ink. ZnO ink was spin coated on silicon wafer and after heat treatment electrodes were patterned.

  • Active layer patterned OTFT was obtained on a plastic substrate using the optimal growth condition of pentancene thin films as active layer and parylene thin films as passivation layer. Tranditional photolithography was performed to use a dry etch to pattern the material stack. The pentacene thin film and parylene thin film were deposited onto a plastic substrate using PC-OVD and CVD, respectively.

  • In this study, the bias-temperature stress and current-temperature stress induced by the electrical stabilities of half-Corbino hydrogenated-amorphous-silicon (a-Si:H) thin-film transistors (TFTs) with different gate electrode geometries fabricated on the same substrate were examined. The influence of the gate pattern on the threshold voltage shift of the half-Corbino a-Si:H TFTs is discussed in this paper. The results indicate that the half-Corbino a-Si:H TFT with a patterned gate electrode has enhanced power efficiency and improved aperture ratio when compared with the half-Corbino a-Si:H TFT with an unpatterned gate electrode and the same source/drain electrode geometry.

  • A single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) transparent conductive film (TCF) was fabricated using a simple inkjet printing method. The TCF could be selectively patterned by controlling the dot size to diameters as small as $34{\mu}m$. In this repeatable and scalable process, we achieved 71% film transmittance and a resistance of 900 ohm/sq sheet with an excellent uniformity, about ${\pm}5%$ deviation overall. Inkjet printing of SWNT is substrate friendly and the TCF is printed on a flexible substrate. This method of fabrication using direct printing permits mass production of TCF in a large area process, reducing processing steps and yielding low-cost TCF fabrications on a designated area using simple printing.

  • We fabricated stretchable thin-film transistors(TFTs) on a polydimethylsiloxane substrate with patterned polyimide island structures by using an amorphous InGaZnO semiconductor and parylene gate insulator. The TFTs exhibited a field- effect mobility of $5cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}$ and a current on/off ratio of $10^5$ at a relatively low operating voltage. Furthermore, the fabricated transistors showed no noticeable changes in their electrical performance for large strains of up to 50 %.
