Ultrastructural Changes in the Neuropil of the Anterior Thalamic Nucleus following the Lesion in the Mamillary Body (유두체 손상이 시상전핵 조직상의 미세구조에 미치는 영향)

  • Degeneration of the axon terminals of mamillo-thalamic tract following the electrical coagulation of mamillary body is well known. In this study, the author investigated the ultrastructural alterations of neuropil components, initiated by terminal degenerations. Rats weighing approximately 250 gm were fixed on the stereotaxic instrument(David Kopf Inc., Heavy duty model), and NE 300 active electrode(Rhodes Med. Instr. Inc.) was introduced to the mamillary position of anterior 3.8 mm, lateral 0.5 mm, height 3.8 mm and lateral angle of $23^{\circ}$ according to De Groot's Atlas. Electric current of 20 mA was applied during 1 minute between active and inactive electrodes with Radio Frequency Lesion Generator(RFG 4, Radionics Inc.). Two hours, 2 days, 1 week and 2 weeks following the electrical coagulation of mamillary body, ipsilateral anterior thalamic nucleus was fixed in 1% glutaraldehyde-l% paraformaldehyde and 2% osmium tetroxide, embedded in Araldite mixture, cutted with LKB ultra tome V, stained with uranyl acetate-lead citrate and observed with JEOL 100 CX electron microscope. Observed results were as follows; 1. Degenerated mamillo-thalamic synapses were observed to form asymmetric axospinous or axo-dendritic types. 2. Terminal degeneration was not easily discernible at 2 hours interval after mamillary lesion, but following 2 days the terminal degeneration was apparent. 3. Postsynaptic spines, dendrites and even their cell bodies show edematic changes caused by the degeneration of postsynaptic counterpart. 4. Astrocytic territories, including perivascular processes forming glial limitans of blood-brain barrier, exhibit remarkable expansion. 5. Oligoglia and astroglia are actively engaged in the removal of degenerated elements. 6. Active forms of microglia were increased. 7. The observed results may represent typical ultrastructural alteration pattern within neuropil following the degeneration of certain input axon terminals.

Impact Assessment of Climate Change on Hydrologic Components and Water Resources in Watershed (기후변화에 따른 유역의 수문요소 및 수자원 영향평가)

  • The main purpose of this study is to suggest and evaluate an operational method for assessing the potential impact of climate change on hydrologic components and water resources of regional scale river basins. The method, which uses large scale climate change information provided by a state of the art general circulation model(GCM) comprises a statistical downscaling approach and a spatially distributed hydrological model applied to a river basin located in Korea. First, we construct global climate change scenarios using the YONU GCM control run and transient experiments, then transform the YONU GCM grid-box predictions with coarse resolution of climate change into the site-specific values by statistical downscaling techniques. The values are used to modify the parameters of the stochastic weather generator model for the simulation of the site-specific daily weather time series. The weather series fed into a semi-distributed hydrological model called SLURP to simulate the streamflows associated with other water resources for the condition of $2CO_2$. This approach is applied to the Yongdam dam basin in southern part of Korea. The results show that under the condition of $2CO_2$, about $7.6\% of annual mean streamflow is reduced when it is compared with the observed one. And while Seasonal streamflows in the winter and autumn are increased, a streamflow in the summer is decreased. However, the seasonality of the simulated series is similar to the observed pattern and the analysis of the duration cure shows the mean of averaged low flow is increased while the averaged wet and normal flow are decreased for the climate change.

GLIBP: Gradual Locality Integration of Binary Patterns for Scene Images Retrieval

  • We propose an enhanced version of the local binary pattern (LBP) operator for texture extraction in images in the context of image retrieval. The novelty of our proposal is based on the observation that the LBP exploits only the lowest kind of local information through the global histogram. However, such global Histograms reflect only the statistical distribution of the various LBP codes in the image. The block based LBP, which uses local histograms of the LBP, was one of few tentative to catch higher level textural information. We believe that important local and useful information in between the two levels is just ignored by the two schemas. The newly developed method: gradual locality integration of binary patterns (GLIBP) is a novel attempt to catch as much local information as possible, in a gradual fashion. Indeed, GLIBP aggregates the texture features present in grayscale images extracted by LBP through a complex structure. The used framework is comprised of a multitude of ellipse-shaped regions that are arranged in circular-concentric forms of increasing size. The framework of ellipses is in fact derived from a simple parameterized generator. In addition, the elliptic forms allow targeting texture directionality, which is a very useful property in texture characterization. In addition, the general framework of ellipses allows for taking into account the spatial information (specifically rotation). The effectiveness of GLIBP was investigated on the Corel-1K (Wang) dataset. It was also compared to published works including the very effective DLEP. Results show significant higher or comparable performance of GLIBP with regard to the other methods, which qualifies it as a good tool for scene images retrieval.

HTTP Traffic Modeling and Analysis with Statistical Process (통계적 분석을 이용한 HTTP 트래픽 모델링 및 분석)

  • For efficient design and operation of a communication network, precise simulation of network characteristics is essential. This issue has been the focus of research by several groups. In this study, we first modeled the HTTP traffic which would be employed on simulation on the level of application using the real collected traffic data. There are two different viewpoints on the characteristics of web traffic pattern, Poisson distribution and self-similar characteristics. In our study, the results show that web traffic characteristics do not depend on only one type of distribution, but the traffic can be modeled as composition of these depending on the size of response of Web server. This implicates that the web traffic can be modeled as the combination of two characteristics. We also found that the characteristics of Web traffic rely on the properties of web servers. This result was deployed as a traffic generator in implementing the network simulator (NetDAS).

  • During Built-In Self-Test(BIST), The set of patterns generated by a pseudo-random pattern generator may not provide sufficiently high fault coverage and many patterns were undetected fault. In order to reduce the test time, we can remove useless patterns or change from them to useful patterns. In this paper, we reseed modify the pseudo-random and use an additional bit flag to improve test length and achieve high fault coverage. the fat that a random tset set contains useless patterns, so we present a technique, including both reseeding and bit modifying to remove useless patterns or change from them to useful patterns, and when the patterns change, we choose number of different less bit, leading to very short test length. the technique we present is applicable for single-stuck-at faults. the seeds we use are deterministic so 100% faults coverage can be achieve.

  • In OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) manufacturing, the aging process increases the manufacturing efficiency and measures the correction value to correct the aging. The correction value for correcting the aging of the OLED can be applied to the driving signal. The OLED aging process measures the current after outputting the light for a predetermined time according to the preset driving signal and temperature. In the OLED manufacturing process, aging is applied for non-uniformity by deposition and temperature. This time has little effect on OLED efficiency reduction. Heating devices and signal generation systems are required to create the conditions necessary for aging. The results measured by the heating system and signal generation system can be used as a basis for evaluating power requirements, uniformity and efficiency in OLED manufacturing. In this paper, we propose and implement a configuration for interlocking the driving signal generation and heating system for practical OLED aging correction.

스퍼터링 및 후 열처리 기법에 의한 V3Si 나노입자 형성과 비휘발성 메모리소자 응용

  • 최근 고밀도 메모리 반도체의 재료와 빠른 응답을 요구하는 나노입자를 이용한 비휘발성 메모리 소자의 제작에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 그에 따른 기존의 플래쉬 메모리가 가지는 문제점을 개선하기 위해서 균일하고 규칙적으로 분포하는 새로운 나노소재의 개발과 비휘발성, 고속 동작, 고집적도, 저전력 소자의 공정기술이 요구되고 있다. 또한 부유게이트에 축적되는 저장되는 전하량을 증가시키기 위한 새로운 소자구조 개발이 필요하다. 한편, 실리 사이드 계열의 나노입자는 금속 나노입자와 달리 현 실리콘 기반의 반도체 공정에서 장점을 가지고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 화합물 중에서 비휘발성 메모리 장치의 전기적 특성을 향상 시킬 수 있는 실리사이드 계열의 바나듐 실리사이드(V3Si) 박막을 열처리 과정을 통하여 수 nm 크기의 나노입자로 제작하였다. 소자의 제작은 p-Si기판에 실리콘산화막 터널층(5 nm 두께)을 건식 산화법으로 성장 후, 바나듐 실리사이드 금속박막을 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터 시스템을 이용하여 4~6 nm 두께로 터널 베리어 위에 증착하고, 그 위에 초고진공 마그네트론 스퍼터링을 이용하여 SiO2 컨트롤 산화막층 (20 nm)을 형성시켰다. 여기서 V3Si 나노입자 형성을 위해 급속 열처리법으로 질소 분위기에서 800$^{\circ}C$로 5초 동안 열처리하여 하였으며, 마지막으로 열 기화 시스템을 통하여 알루미늄 전극(직경 200 ${\mu}m$, 두께 200 nm)을 증착하여 소자를 제작하였다. 제작된 구조는 금속 산화막 반도체구조를 가지는 나노 부유게이트 커패시터이며, 제작된 시편은 투사전자현미경을 이용하여 나노입자의 크기와 균일성을 확인했다. 소자의 전기적인 측정을 E4980A capacitor parameter analyzer와 Agilent 81104A pulse pattern generator system을 이용한 전기용량-전압 측정을 통해 전하저장 효과 및 메모리 동작 특성들을 분석하고, 열처리 조건에 따라 형성되는 V3Si 의 조성을 엑스선 광전자 분광법을 이용하여 확인하였다.

  • The Error BackPropagation (EBP) algorithm for multi-layered neural networks is widely used in various areas such as associative memory, speech recognition, pattern recognition and robotics, etc. Nevertheless, many researchers have continuously published papers about improvements over the original EBP algorithm. The main reason for this research activity is that EBP is exceeding slow when the number of neurons and the size of training set is large. In this study, we developed new learning speed acceleration methods using variable learning rate, variable momentum rate and variable slope for the sigmoid function. During the learning process, these parameters should be adjusted continuously according to the total error of network, and it has been shown that these methods significantly reduced learning time over the original EBP. In order to show the efficiency of the proposed methods, first we have used binary data which are made by random number generator and showed the vast improvements in terms of epoch. Also, we have applied our methods to the binary-valued Monk's data, 4, 5, 6, 7-bit parity checker and real-valued Iris data which are famous benchmark training sets for machine learning.

An Efficient Code Expansion from EM to SPARC Code (EM에서 SPARC 코드로 효율적인 코드 확장)

  • There are two kinds of backends in ACK:code generator(full-fledged backend) and code expander(fast backend). Code generators generate target code using string pattern matching and code expanders generate target code using macro expansion. ACK translates EM to SPARC code using code expander. The corresponding SPARC code sequences for a EM code are generated and then push-pop optimization is performed. But, there is the problem of maintaining hybrid stack. And code expander is not considered to passes parameters of a procedure call through register windows. The purpose of this paper is to improve SPARC code quality. We suggest a method of SPARC cod generation using EM tree. Our method is divided into two phases:EM tree building phase and code expansion phase. The EM tree building phase creates the EM tree and code expansion phase translates it into SPARC code. EM tree is designed to pass parameters of a procedure call through register windows. To remove hybrid stack, we extract an additional information from EM code. We improved many disadvantages that arise from code expander in ACK.
