  • A switch is one of the most useful circuits for controlling the path of signal transmission. It can be added to digital circuits to create a kind of gate-level device and it can also save information into memory. In RF subsystems, a switch is used in a different way than its general role in digital circuits. The most important characteristic to consider when designing an RF switch is keeping the isolation as high as possible while also keeping insertion loss as low as possible. For high isolation, we propose leakage signal cancellation and inductive switching for designing a singlepole double-throw (SPDT) RF switch. By using the proposed method, an isolation level of more than 23 dB can be achieved. Furthermore, the heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) process is used in the RF switch design to keep the insertion loss low. It is demonstrated that the proposed RF switch has an insertion loss of less than 2 dB. The RF switch operates from 1 to 8 GHz based on the $0.18-{\mu}m$ SiGe HBT process, taking up an area of $0.3mm^2$.

  • As personal users create and share lots of contents at any time and any places, new networking architecture such as content centric networking (CCN) has emerged. CCN utilizes content name as a packet identifier, not address. However, current CCN has a limitation for content source mobility management. The movement of content sources cause long delivery latency and long service disruption. To solve that, a hierarchical mobility management was was proposed. However, the hierarchical mobility management scheme has still the loss of interest packets and long handoff latency. So, this paper presents the hybrid hierarchical mobility management in mobile CCN environements to reduce both the loss rate of interest packets and the handoff latency. It is shown from the performance evaluations shows that the proposed scheme provides low loss rate of control message.

  • This paper presents the line contention avoidance experiments with an optical switch, which was selected based on the comparison analysis and evaluation of the various characteristics. For example, the function, structure, strengths and weaknesses of the optical switches. After considering the nonblocking, modularity, upgrade ability and optical power loss of the several kind of the switch fabrics, a switch was selected. The selected switch fabric by using wavelength converters was controlled to avoid contention of the optical lines. In this experiment shows an example of three cases. As a result of this experiment, optical signal shows a changed peek of optical power in output. By showing a peak it confirms that the contention was avoided. By analyzing of changed optical power according to the channel setting time and release time to control of the switch could be determined. If this analysis applied to the network design, economical and efficient structures can be formed.

  • The optimal AP placement for wireless LAN is important factor for improving service quality and reducing cost. Decision of AP placement is depend on radio signal strength, environment factor and logical area property, which is user's frequently posed place. This paper proposes optimal multiple AP placement method based on radio prediction tool. The proposed method can get flexibility in multiple AP placement using user defined parameter and the optimization design uses Hopfield network algorithm. And path-loss model is used for one of radion prediction model. The result of simulation shows that it is efficiently reduces the process to find optimal AP placement. And the proposed optimization design of multiple AP placement can improve service quality for wireless LAN.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a Ultra-Wideband slot notch antenna by using a semi-circular extension. The proposed antenna cover the entire UWB band(3.1${\~}$10.6 GHz) and notch out the IEEE 802.1la frequency band(5.15${\~}$5.825 GHz) by inserting a $\lambda$/4 length slot into the patch. A prototype antenna was fabricated on FR-4( ${\epsilon}_r$ =4.4, substrate thickness=0.8 mm) and measured for VSWR characteristics. The measured notched frequency variations versus frequency for different slot length. The path loss and group delay were measured. The proposed antenna also show a good gain flatness(1.9 dBi) except the IEEE 802.1la frequency band.

  • As determined single coaxial cable for the interface between satellite and ground station in COMS RF compatibility test, RF supporting unit was required to allow signals in different frequency-band to be exchanged in the single coaxial cable. In addition, the path loss between satellite and ground station in normal operation should be simulated through two RF supporting units connected to the ends of single coaxial cable. As an effort to design RF supporting unit, level diagram was firstly conducted on the basis of measured data for each element. From the level diagram, it was found that single coaxial cable connected with two RF supporting units properly represented the path loss between satellite and ground station After RF supporting unit was integrated on aluminum plate, it was tested that input signal level at each test cap linked with MODCS and TC&R was tunable within the required dynamic range. RF supporting unit, now completely integrated, will be applied in the upcoming COMS RF compatibility test.

  • The third generation cellular system requires the seamless macro/micro mobility support. Mobile IP provides a simple and scalable macro mobility solution but lacks the support for fast handoff control in micro-domain. However, A lot of micro-mobility protocols have been proposed to complement the Mobile IP capability by providing the fast, seamless, and local handoff control. Cellular If also provides the seamless mobility support in limited geographical area. But semi-soft handoff mechanism of Cellular IP produces the packet loss and the duplication problem due to the difference of propagation delay between the new path and the old path. In this paper, we present an efficient handoff mechanism in micro-domain. The proposed handoff mechanism uses the SCD (Suitable Cross Delay) in order to minimize the packet loss and the duplication problem during the handoff. Also, the proposed mechanism is verified by the performance evaluation through the NS-2 Simulation.

  • Recently, wireless network has been playing an important role in communication system and the applications have become wider with its big technological leap. In defence sector, there are some attempts to use wireless networks to go beyond the wire system. Especially, most internal space of the warships have the wired communication system, which are complicated and inefficient. In this paper, we measure and make a channel model about the internal parts of the warship which contain compartments and corridors including many differences from general indoor environment for establishing wireless networks in warship's internal space. In the unique environment made of metal, we measure 2.4GHz signals using continuous wave(CW) and analysis the environment to present indoor path-loss model for comparing with results from the ray-tracing tool. Moreover, we draw the conclusion that the environment of warships has a wide difference from conventional environments and put the results to practical use in warship's internal space.

  • According to dramatic increase of wireless communication demand, more spectrum resources are needed to support considerable and various wireless services, so cognitive radio(CR) was proposed to reuse unused frequency efficiently. Also, FCC revises its policies regarding the usage of the TV white spaces by unlicensed users. CR is an intelligent wireless communication system that is aware of the radio environment and is capable of adapting its operation to the statistical variations. Spectrum sensing is the key task of the CR systems. However, since spectrum sensing performance changes according to the received signal that is received various geography environment, regional characteristics are considered to estimate the path-loss. Therefore, for more accurate analysis and simulation, we demonstrate the spectrum sensing performance of CR system by various method applying Okumura-hata propagation model.

  • Path loss prediction method, one of the most essential parts in measuring the service area in mobile telecommunication, has been developed for many years. But, wave propagation depends on many kinds of environmental factors such as frequency, distance, the heights of transmitting and receiving antenna and the terrain status(buildings in large city, hilly terrain, mountain). These are the main reasons that the propagation models developed in foreign environments can not fit into Korean propagation condition. In this paper, therefore, we performed the measurement in Korean terrain environment in pager frequency band after deviding the terrain characteristics into six types. With this measured data, we derived several curves that follows the long-term wave progagation behavior and developed the wave propagftion prediction model which calculates the field strength at any point in the service area. The proposed model estimates the field strength in two categories, LOS(line-of-sight), or non LOS. We applied this model using the digital terrain data base and compared with the measured data. The result shows that the errors were between 3~9dB, which turned out to be practical.
