  • For the young period, privacy is a crucial factor in establishing one's own identities, values and relationships. The capacity of residential environment to protect individual's privacy takes considerable part in influencing psychological and physiological development of adolescents. This study analyzed adolescents residential values and the elements of spatial plans for the passage and outdoor in Apartment Design Competition of Suwon A district in 2008. One hundred and ten middle and high school students living in Metropolitan area were selected and questionnaire was conducted during February 7 to February 15 in 2009. The data was analyzed by SPSS 11.0 program using one-way ANOVA and crosstab. The study results were summarized as follows; First, the adolescents valued 'safety' the most, regardless of their age and gender and the safety of adolescents commuting should be considered. Second, protecting their own private territories was next important element among other elements. Privacy can be protected by using movable walls, changing the doorway, dividing parents' and adolescents independent territory. Third, in terms of convenience, choosing location of children's room and walking way should be considered. Forth, from the survey, demand for indoors leisure activity was highly valued and required for aesthetic point of view. Considering the sculptures and facilities must satisfy the aesthetics and practicality. Fifth, in terms of social needs, 61.6% of people answered positively to the community facilities for social relationship. Residential environment affects enormous part of adolescents emotional and academic development. Therefore, designing residential areas for adolescents friendly should reflect the demands for safety, territory, convenience, aesthetic and social life.

  • This study estimated the behavior(movement) characteristics of floating marine debris flowing in the Nakdong River Estuary using a simple numerical particle-tracking model. This numerical experiment considered the maximum water discharge outflow from the Nakdong River barrage during the passage of typhoon Maemi in 2003. The simulation showed that the particle distribution and movement of floating marine debris in the Nakdong River Estuary reached a stable state at 72 hours after the typhoon had passed, during the flαxl period of river discharge. The quantity of floating particles distributed on the east coast of Gadeok and Jinu Islands increased by 40% at 33 hours after starting the model, while the change in other sea areas was $20{\sim}40%$.

  • Recently, the viability of the Northern Sea Route has been receiving a remarkable amount of attention. Owing to global warming, glaciers in the Arctic Ocean have been melting rapidly, which has opened up navigation routes for ships with commercial as well as research purposes. At present, vessels can be economically operated along the Northern Sea Route four months of the year. However, studies have shown that the economical operating time may increase to six months by 2020 and year-round by 2030. Even though the conditions of the Northern Sea Route are extreme, the main reason for its use is that the route is shorter than the existing route using the Suez Canal, which provides an economic benefit. In addition, 25% of the world's oil reserves and 30% of its natural gas are stored in the coastal areas of the East Siberian Arctic region. Many factors are leading to the expectation of commercial navigation using the Northern Sea Route in the near future. To satisfy future demand, the International Maritime Organization established the Polar Code in order to ensure navigation safety in polar waters; this is expected to enter into force on January 1, 2017. According to the code, a ship needs to reduce its speed and analyze the ice for safe operation before entering into it. It is necessary to enter an ice field at a right angle to break the ice safely and efficiently. This study examined the operation along the course for safe navigation of the passage under several conditions. The results will provide guidelines for traffic officers who will operate ships in the Arctic Ocean.

  • The study was done to change the morphology and pore size of SBA-15 silica, and the characteristics of SBA-15 silica were investigated with TG-DSC, XRD, SEM, TEM and N2 adsorption-desorption under changing aging conditions. SBA-15 silica having a 2D-hexagonal structure was synthesized and confirmed by SEM and TEM. The structure of mesoporus silica SBA-15 showed a pore having regularly formed hexagonal structure and a passage having a cylindrical shape. This result is in good agreement with the pore forming in XRD and cylindrical shape of the structure in $N_2$ adsorption-desorption isotherm. SBA-15 silica showed a large BET surface area of $603-698\;m^2/g$, a pore volume of $0.673-0.926\;cm^3/g$, a large pore diameter of 5.62-7.42 nm, and a thick pore wall of 3.31-4.37 nm. This result shows that as the aging temperature increases, the BET surface area, pore volume, and pore diameter increase but the pore wall thickness decreases. The BET surface areas in SM-2 and SM-3 are as large as $698\;m^2/g$. However, SM-2 has a large surface area and forms a thick pore wall, when the aging temperature is $100^{\circ}C$ and is synthesized into stable mesoporous SBA-15 silica.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of combine crawler attaching slurry spreader on soil and growth of rye. The performance test at actual field was conducted to test for possibility of practical use. Field test of the slurry spreader was operated in upland and paddy field. Experiments was conducted to compare the effects of the soil damage and crop productivity incorporating Pig slurry by two different types of slurry spreader. In this experiment a slurry spreader using crawler of combine have been designed and developed to enhance the operation in small field and reduce e damage of soil structure. but it was not suitable for transference in long distance. Conventional tractor mounted vacuum is not suitable for $71.6\%$ water condition in the small areas of paddy land. But the slurry spreader using crawler could be controlled the working point and moving by crawler in paddy land of small area. The wheels depths of soil in the supplementary application in the rye field was 4.9 m in tractor mounted spreader. but the wheels depth of crawler attaching spreader was 1.6cm. The dry matter yield of rye was reduced by $12\%$ in supplementary application of slurry due to mechanical damage from passage of the tires. This is particularly noticeable at high soil moisture condition in paddy land. It was concluded that the slurry spreader developed in this study could be successfully used for basal and supplementary application of slurry in rye paddy field.

  • A definition on the tropical cyclone (TC) that influenced the Korean Peninsula (KP), the KP-influence TC, is widely used in the TC communities, but its criterion is not clear mainly due to the ambiguity and subjectiveness of the term such as 'influence', which led to the inconsistent TC statistical analysis. This study suggests a definition and criterion on the TC approaching to the KP (KP-approach TC) additionally, which is more obvious and objective than the KP-influence TC. In this study, the criterion on the KP-approach TC is determined when the TC's center from the RSMC best track data encounters the box areas of $28^{\circ}N{\sim}40^{\circ}N$ and $120^{\circ}E{\sim}138^{\circ}E$. The range is chosen by finding a minimum area that includes all official KP-influence TCs except three TCs that affected the KP as a tropical depression (TD). Statistical analysis reveals that, among total 1,537 TCs that occur in the western North Pacific during 1951-2008, the KP-approach TC was 472, the KP-influence TC was 187, and the KP-landfall TC was 87. August was the month that the largest TCs approach and influence to the KP. Finally, this paper suggests to determine the KP-influence TC by the strong wind and heavy rain advisories in the KP based on the observation after the storm's passage.

  • As the urbanization progresses, the demand for parking in large cities surges compared with that for parking lots. However, the space for securing a parking lot in a large city is physically limited and a budget problem also arises. Therefore, a shared parking system that can utilize existing parking lots is becoming important. This study was carried out to analyze the parking area efficiently for the residents parking area. As a result of the questionnaire survey, it was the most frequent passage to work / commuting and business purposes. The most important factors in parking were 'Parking charge', 'Walking distance to the destination after parking', 'Parking lot searching time' Approximately 46 % of the respondents were female. As a result of the quantitative analysis of the factors influencing the potential use of the intention to use as a dependent variable, it was analyzed that the policy was effective to reduce the parking fee to less than 500 won per 10 minutes and take about 3-6 minutes to search.

  • Jeju coastal waters are limited to high-risk areas due to the passage of international cruise ships, passenger ships, with a large number of people and fishing boats, or to the jeju port and the jeju civilian-military combined port and near by seas, so a VTS system will be established along jeju and seogwipo coast. There is no accurate standard for determining the number of people required by the maritime traffic control center. Therefore, this study calculated the required operating personnel for control seats on the coast of jeju and seogwipo by using VTS big data to efficiently calculate the workload of maritime traffic control. It is judged that this study can be used basic data for research that sets the standard for calculating the control workload.

  • Fishways are essential structures that must be installed in rivers to facilitate the movement of fish between upstream and downstream areas. However, the efficiency of fish passage varies depending on the flow conditions within the fishway. Therefore, this study examined the fish-friendly flow characteristics within a stepped fishway at different overflow depths using FLOW-3D, and conducted experiments for model validation. The key parameters affecting fish swimming ability include velocity, turbulent kinetic energy, and energy dissipation rate. These factors were assessed using a simulated fish species, the zacco platypus, to evaluate the suitability of fish-friendly flow condition. It was confirmed that overflow depth significantly influences fish behavior, and an appropriate overflow depth is required for stepped fishway design. The results of this study are expected to serve as fundamental data for the design of stepped fishways in the future.

  • Health monitoring of civil infrastructures, in particular, old bridges that are still in service, has become more than necessary, given the risk that a possible degradation or failure of these infrastructures can induce on the safety of users in addition to the resulting commercial and economic impact. Bridge integrity assessment has attracted significant research efforts over the past forty years with the aim of developing new damage identification methods applicable to real structures. The bridge of Ouled Mimoun (Tlemcen, Algeria) is one of the oldest railway structure in the country. It was built in 1889. This bridge, which is too low with respect to the level of the road, has suffered multiple shocks from various machines that caused considerable damage to its central part. The present work aims to analyze the stability of this bridge by identifying damages and evaluating the damage rate in different parts of the structure on the basis of a finite element model. The applied method is based on an inverse analysis of the normal stress responses that were calculated from the corresponding recorded strains, during the passage of a real train, by means of a set of strain gauges placed on certain elements of the bridge. The results obtained from the inverse analysis made it possible to successfully locate areas that were really damaged and to estimate the damage rate. These results were also used to detect an excessive rigidity in certain elements due to the presence of plates, which were neglected in the numerical reference model. In the case of the continuous bridge monitoring, this developed method will be a very powerful tool as a smart health monitoring system, allowing engineers to take in time decisions in the event of bridge damage.
