  • This paper presents a method for developing a TM (Traversability Map) from a DTM (Digital Terrain Model) collected by remote sensors of autonomous mobile robots. Such a map can be used to plan traversable paths and estimate navigation speed quantitatively in real time for robots capable of performing autonomous tasks over rough terrain environments. The proposed method consists of three parts: a DTM partition module which divides the DTM into equally spaced patches, a terrain information module which extracts the slope and roughness of the partitioned patches using the curve fitting and the fractal-based triangular prism method, and a traversability analysis module which assesses traversability incorporating with extracted terrain information and fuzzy inference to construct a TM. The potential of the proposed method is validated via simulation works over a set of fractal DTMs.

  • In the paper, we analyze the performances of random access channels in multi-service multi-user OFDMA systems. The resource of the random access channels in OFDMA systems is the nubmer of available sub-channels and PN-codes. For given available sub-channels and PN-codes. we analyze the performances of the random access channels of OFDMA systems according to three resource allocation methods (resource full sharing, resource partial sharing, resource partition) in tenus of the access success probability, the blocking probability, the access delay and the throughput of each service class. Further, we find the feasible region of the access probability of each service class in which the allowable minimum access success probability, the allowable maximum blocking probability and the allowable maximum access delay are satisfied. The results also can be utilized to find proper region of the access probabilities of each service class for differentiated quality of service(QoS)s, and for the system operations.

  • We make use of cubic B-spline interpolation function in two cases: heat conduction and fluid flow problems. Cubic B-spline test function is employed because it is superior to approximation of linear and non-linear problems. We investigated the accuracy of the numerical formulation and focused on the position of the breakpoints within the computational domain. When the domain is divided by partitions of equal space, the results show poor accuracy. For the case of a heat conduction problem this partition can not reflect the temperature gradient which is rapidly changed near the wall. To correct the problem, we have more grid points near the wall or the region which has a rapid change of variables. When we applied the unequally spaced breakpoints, the results show high accuracy. Based on the comparison of the linear problem, we extended to the highly non-linear fluid flow problems.

  • A three-dimensional ecological model (EMT-3D) was used to simulate the behavior of PFOA in Gwangyang Bay, Korea. The results of sensitivity analysis showed that partition rate, adsorption rate, and settling rate were important factors in the variation in PFOA in particulate organic matter. Bioconcentration was the most significant factor for PFOA in phytoplankton, with the largest effect size. These parameters must therefore be carefully considered when modeling PFOA behavior. In simulations, 30% and 50% reductions in loads from land-based sources of PFOA resulted in concentrations of dissolved PFOA lower than 4 ng/L and 2 ng/L, respectively, in the central part of the bay.

  • We present a new space-time discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method for solving the time dependent, positive symmetric hyperbolic systems. The main feature of this DG method is that the discrete equations can be solved semi-explicitly, layer by layer, in time direction. For the partition made of triangle or rectangular meshes, we give the stability analysis of this DG method and derive the optimal error estimates in the DG-norm which is stronger than the $L_2$-norm. As application, the wave equation is considered and some numerical experiments are provided to illustrate the validity of this DG method.

  • The interconnection network is an integral part of parallel processing system. The multistage interconnection networks(MINs) have been the objects of intense research in recent years. In this paper, simulation techniques for circuit switchign MIN are extended to allow the performance evaluation of partitioned ADM/IADM network. Based on simulation data, the relationship between the netwrok performance, the partitioning scheme employed, and the conflict resolution strategies used within the network is enumerated. It is shown that IADM network coupled with the use of the hold strategy produces the best network operation in terms of RST (Request Service Time).

  • The purpose of clustering is to partition a set of objects into several clusters based on some appropriate similarity measure. In most cases, clustering is considered without any prior information on the number of clusters or the structure of the given data, which makes clustering is one example of very complicated combinatorial optimization problems. In this paper we propose a general-purpose clustering method that can determine the proper number of clusters as well as efficiently carry out clustering analysis for various types of data. The method is composed of two stages. In the first stage, two different hierarchical clustering methods are used to get a reasonably good clustering result, which is improved In the second stage by ASA(accelerated simulated annealing) algorithm equipped with specially designed perturbation schemes. Extensive experimental results are given to demonstrate the apparent usefulness of our ASA clustering method.

  • A new velocity formulation technique, which contains the advantage of UBET and the shape function of FEM, is proposed. In the proposed technique, a shape function is used to improve the unreasonableness of elemental partition and to solve the difficulty of velocity-field determination. In order to verify the effectiveness of this rechnique, T-shaped forging processes are simulated. The results are compared with these obtained by experimental measurements in T-shaped forging. In T-shaped forging, good agreements between theory and experiment are also confined.

  • It has been reported that discrepancies exist in the case of double panels with an air layer when the measured sound transmission loss is compared with the calculated values. It has been known that the cause of this discrepancy is in major from the unavoidable dips associated with the double wall resonances. In this work, several correction methods to make up for such resonances are studied. In particular, the ‘boundary damping’concept is revisited and its effects are discussed by comparing with measured values. It is shown that the correction methods are necessary for the sound insulation analysis of double partitions with an air layer, in order to ascertain the quantitative correlation between measured and predicted values.

  • This experiment was accomplished to investigate antioxidative activity of Korean mistletoe by organic solvents partitioning of methanol extact of 3 Korean mistletoes, fractionationing on column chromatography, and evaluation the reduction of a free radical ${\alpha}$,${\alpha}$-diphenyl-${\beta}$-picrylhydrazyl. Butanol partition of Loranthus yadoriki MeOH extract showed higher electron donating ability than ${\alpha}$-tocopherol. It was thought phenolic compounds including gallic acid account for antioxidative activity, on execution sub-fractionation, electron donating ability evaluation, and GC/MS analysis, but further studies on what are major actives must be investigated exactly.
