Correlations among Perceptions and Practice of Taegyo and Maternal-Fetal Attachment in Pregnant Women (일 지역 임부의 태교인식, 태교실천 및 모-태아애착 간의 상관관계)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the relationships among the perceptions and practice of taegyo (a traditional set of practices and beliefs related to healthy fetal development) and maternal-fetal attachment in pregnant women. Methods: The participants were 136 pregnant women who visited a public health center or maternity hospital for prenatal care. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the t-test, analysis of varience, and Pearson correlation coefficients with SPSS version 22.0. Results: The mean age of the pregnant women was $32.24{\pm}3.99$ years. The mean scores for perceptions of taegyo, practice of taegyo, and maternal-fetal attachment were $3.96{\pm}0.53$, $3.74{\pm}0.64$, and $3.94{\pm}0.49$, respectively. Perceptions of taegyo were significantly correlated with the practice of taegyo (r=.72, p<.001), and maternal-fetal attachment (r=.55, p<.001). A significant correlation was also found between the practice of taegyo and maternal-fetal attachment (r=.65, p<.001). Conclusion: Perceptions of taegyo affected the practice of taegyo, and had a positive effect on maternal-fetal attachment. These findings suggest that primary care nurses at hospitals and public health centers should provide nursing intervention programs to improve the perceptions of taegyo, the practice of taegyo, and maternal-fetal attachment.

A Survey on the Consumption and the Perception of Salted Sea Foods among Seoul Area Housewives (서울지역 주부들의 젓갈에 대한 이용실태 및 인식 조사)

  • A total of 165 housewives in Seoul area were interviewed to survey the Salted Sea Foods. The aim of this study was to investigate the perceptions and preferences of 20s~50s housewives to salted sea foods. As to the recognition of salted sea foods, shrimp salted sea foods(100%)>anchovy sauce(97%)>canary sauce(91%)answered. Necessity of the Development plan of salted sea foods as to its importance 23%, regarded salted sea foods very important, while 44.8% and 6.1% not important. The Participants considered that we need to succeed and develop salted sea foods. We need to develop new recipes to increase the usage of salted sea foods.

Clinical Knowledge and Actual Performance of Pressure Ulcer Care by Hospital Nurses (중소병원간호사의 욕창간호지식과 간호수행에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between clinical knowledge and provision of pressure ulcer care and to identify factors associated with performance of care. Methods: Participants were 202 nurses working in one of 6 small to medium hospitals. Self-report questionnaire were used and data were collected from December 11 to 18, 2009. Results: Mean score for knowledge about pressure ulcer care was 0.81. In subcategories, knowledge of risk factors inducing pressure ulcers was 0.93, knowledge of assessment of pressure ulcers was 0.90, and knowledge of treatment methods for pressure ulcers was 0.61. Mean score for performance of care activities for patients with pressure ulcers was 3.63/5. There was a significant positive correlation between knowledge and performance (r=.319, p<.001). According to multiple regression analysis, general perception (${\beta}=.306$, p<.001), knowledge (${\beta}=.247$, p<.001), and hospital size (${\beta}=.156$, p= .015) had an impact on the extent of nurses' performance of pressure ulcer care. Conclusion: Study results indicate that further education on pressure ulcer care is necessary to enhance nurses' knowledge about pressure ulcers and to increase rate of performance of pressure ulcer care.

Effects of Earplug Wear on Patients' Displeasure and Anxiety Caused by Operation-Induced Noises (귀마개 적용이 수술 소음으로 인한 불쾌감 및 불안에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify nursing interventions clinically applicable to relieve displeasure and anxiety of patients having an operation in which loud noise was unavoidable. Methods: Participants were 34 patients scheduled to have a total knee replacement. They were assigned to either the control (17 patients) or experimental (17 patients) group. Data were collected from September to November 2010. The instruments used for the survey included noise-control earplugs, a noise level meter (TES-1358) and a structured scale measuring degree of noise perception, displeasure and anxiety. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, standard deviation, $x^2$-test, and t-test with the SPSS WIN 18.0 program. Results: Hypothesis 1: 'The displeasure levels of the experimental group of patients wearing earplugs will be lower than the control group patients without earplugs' was accepted (t=-20.769, p<.001). Hypothesis 2: 'The anxiety levels of the experimental group of patients wearing earplugs will be lower than the control group patients without earplugs' was accepted (t=-6.298, p<.001). Conclusion: Based on these findings, the wearing of earplugs for patients having a surgical operation with loud noises is recommended as an effective nursing intervention to relieve patient displeasure and anxiety during their surgical operations.

A Journey of Digital Transformation of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Vietnam: Insights from Multiple Cases

  • This study aims to investigate the status quo and identify the challenges and benefits of the digital transformation in the context of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam. The six participating SMEs were purposely contacted, and they were either nominated for, or received the Vietnam Digital Awards in 2018, 2019 and 2020, which were held by the Vietnam Digital Communication Association (http://en.vdca.org.vn/). A qualitative research method is adopted, using a semi-structured interview method and a theoretical triangulation of legitimacy, stakeholder and stewardship theories to facilitate the investigation. This research tries to identify the current challenges and benefits for digital transformation of SMEs in Vietnam, based on perception and experience from business leaders and managers from six SMEs in Vietnam. The findings of this study reveal that besides the recent challenges for digital transformation, participants also experienced and shared their perspectives regarding the benefits received from the digital transformation journey of their organization, which varied from (i) improve operational as well as business functions; (ii) liberate staffs and managers from daily work and allows them to focus on decision-making tasks; (iii) enable solutions to deal with consequences from the COVID-19 pandemic; (iv) enhance value creation process; and (v) help firms to align with the global business standards.

Connecting School to the Community through Community Use and Multiple-Use of Special School Facilities (특수학교의 학교시설 개방 및 시설복합화를 통한 지역사회 연계)

  • The purpose of this study was exploring perceptions of people in community towards community use and multiple-use of special school facilities and providing implications for connecting school to the communities. Survey was conducted to special education teachers, parents of children receiving special education, and local residents. Total 5,702 people participated in this study and general finds were as following: (1) All 3 groups of study participants reported that there was a generally positive perception of special schools within the community, however, at the same time, almost quarter of parents having children with disabilities reported negative perceptions of special schools in the community; (2) among the special school facilities, sports facilities appeared to be the most open to the community and difficulties related to the community-open of school facilities included facility management and safety issues, and inteference with students' school activities; (3) facilities suitable for the multi-use of special schools facilities included sports facilities, cultural and creative spaces, and commercial areas, and those facilities could be open to community during non-class hours such as after-school, weekends, and vacations. Based on the results from survey, implications for planning, designing, and implementing multi-use facilities of special schools were provided.

Assessing the forensic knowledge of 119 emergency medical technicians (119 구급대원의 법의학 지식에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose: It is crucial that 119 emergency medical technician (EMT) have adequate knowledge regarding forensic science. This study aimed to assess the forensic knowledge of EMTs in the Republic of Korea. Methods: This study was conducted on EMTs of five fire stations in D metropolitan city between August 6 and August 13, 2018. A questionnaire consisting of items on crime-related incident recognition (i.e., mechanical asphyxiation, trauma, sex crimes, and child abuse), forensic evidence management (i.e., evidence collection, preservation, and recording) was administered to the participants. Finally, 119 questionnaires were analyzed. Results: The ratio of correct answers for crime-related incidents recognition was 55.82%, which was lower than that for forensic evidence management(84.5%). In particular, the scores for the type of neck compression(16.5%) and wound assessment(44.0%) were low. The percentage of correct answers for forensic evidence management was 78.4% for evidence collection, 84.4% for evidence preservation, and 90.6% for evidence recording. Previous forensic education experience was not a significant variable. Conclusion: Specific and practical forensic science education on perception of crime-related incident, including asphyxia and wound identification, and forensic evidence collection is needed.

Degree of personality recognition by dental hygienists (치과위생사의 인성 인식정도)

  • Objectives: In this study, by a professional who provides medical services by gauging the level of personality recognition among dental hygienists, the basic data is provided to suggest the need for personality education in dental hygienists' education. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted with the members attending conservative education in 2018, and the results of the analysis of the total of 348 members were as follows. Results: The average age of the participants was 31.6 years, and their average career duration was 9.4 years. The total personality score was 3.74 points. The highest score was 4.10 points for conscience, and the lowest score was 2.98 points for habit. In terms of differences between general characteristics and personality domains, the personality perception score was statistically significantly higher for hygienists who were married than for those with a higher education level and working at a higher hospital level. There was a statistically significant positive correlation between the personality domains and the highest competence domain (r=0.790) in relation to total personality. The higher the competency, the higher the total score. Conclusions: Personality is not a part of being formed in the short term. It should be recognized that it is important to recognize the importance of personality in the dental hygiene education curriculum and to provide opportunities to develop personality through systematic programs.

Older Adults' Perceptions of Age-friendliness with an Emphasis on Community Supports and Health Services in a City in South Korea

  • Purpose: This study tries to comprehend older adults' perspectives of community supports and health services in a South Korean city and identify important sociodemographic and health characteristics that affect their perspectives. Methods: 166 older adults were involved in this cross-sectional study. Questions on background characteristics and community supports and health services criteria (categorized as service accessibility, offer of services, voluntary support, or emergency care planning) based upon the WHO's Age-Friendly Cities Guide were used. The data were analyzed using paired and independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and hierarchical multiple regression analyses. Results: emergency care planning was rated as the most important by the participants (mean age=76.24 years, 22.9% male), while its current level of performance was lowly appraised (p<.001). The rated importance for each category differed based on individual characteristics. Depression (p=.016), older age (p=.012), and restricted network type (p=.039) were significantly related to ascribing a higher degree of importance to community services. Conclusion: Community initiatives are warranted to optimize emergency care for older adults. This planning must be based on the unique characteristics of older adults in coordination with supportive resources. In addition, comprehensive assessments are warranted before implementing action plans to ensure that the multi-dimensional problems of older adults are incorporated.

Difficulties of High School Mathematics Teachers in Guiding Students (고등학교 수학 교사가 학생 지도에서 겪는 어려움)

  • The objectives of this study were to explore the difficulties of high school mathematics teachers while guiding students and to examine whether the perception of difficulties varied by gender, position, and work experience. This study randomly chose 36 mathematics teachers as participants and they were living in six cities or provinces in South Korea. The results showed that teachers experienced difficulties while guiding students, in student evaluation and teaching and learning methods, in the order of magnitude. There was no statistical difference by gender, position, and work experience. Unlike the results of previous studies suggesting that mathematics content knowledge and pedagogical knowledge would help students guide students, the results of this study revealed that they had relatively little impact on student guidance.
