  • We investigate the channel allocation problem in an ultra-dense device-to-device (D2D) enabled cellular network in underlaying mode where multiple D2D users are forced to share the same channel. Two kinds of low complexity solutions, which just require partial channel state information (CSI) exchange, are devised to resolve the combinatorial optimization problem with the quality of service (QoS) guaranteeing. We begin by sorting the cellular users equipment (CUEs) links in sequence in a matric of interference tolerance for ensuring the SINR requirement. Moreover, the interference quota of CUEs is regarded as one kind of communication resource. Multiple D2D candidates compete for the interference quota to establish spectrum sharing links. Then base station calculates the occupation of interference quota by D2D users with partial CSI such as the interference channel gain of D2D users and the channel gain of D2D themselves, and carries out the channel allocation by setting different access priorities distribution. In this paper, we proposed two novel fast matching algorithms utilize partial information rather than global CSI exchanging, which reduce the computation complexity. Numerical results reveal that, our proposed algorithms achieve outstanding performance than the contrast algorithms including Hungarian algorithm in terms of throughput, fairness and access rate. Specifically, the performance of our proposed channel allocation algorithm is more superior in ultra-dense D2D scenarios.

  • We consider multiple-input multiple-output decode-and-forward relay systems in Rayleigh fading channels under the partial channel state information (CSI) that the channel statistics of the source-relay (SR) link and the instantaneous CSI of the source-destination and relay-destination links are known at the destination. In this paper, we propose a new near maximum likelihood (near-ML) decoder with two-level pairwise error probability (near-ML-2PEP) which uses the average PEP instead of the exact PEP. Then, we theoretically prove that the near-ML and near-ML-2PEP decoders achieve the maximum diversity, which is confirmed by Monte Carlo simulations. Moreover, we show that the near-ML-2PEP decoder can also achieve the maximum diversity by substituting the average PEP with the values that represent the error performance of the SR link.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive combined scalable video coding (CSVC) system for video transmission over MIMO-OFDM (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) broadband wireless communication systems. The scalable combination method of CSVC adaptively combines the medium grain scalable (MGS), the coarse grain scalable (CGS) and the scalable spatial modes with the limited feedback partially from channel state information (CSI) of MIMO-OFDM systems. The objective is to improve the average of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and bit error rate (BER) of the received video stream by exploiting partial CSI of video sources and channel condition. Experimental results show that the delivered quality using the proposed adaptive CSVC over MIMO-OFDM system performs better than those proposed previously in the literature.

  • One of the ubiquitous technology fields that have received the most attention recently from technology communities worldwide is mobile radio frequency identification (RFID). Mobile handsets loaded with RFID readers enable the identification and retrieval of information on RFID tagged objects. In Korea, a variety of mobile RFID services are currently being piloted, and their commercial roll-out looks imminent. The goal of this study is to propose, ahead of the commercial launch of mobile RFID services, a customer satisfaction index (CSI) model for this service category and to then measure the CSI to derive practical implications for their providers and pointers related to the improvement of service. A web survey was conducted on Korean mobile phone subscribers who had participated in a mobile RFID pilot program. Using the results of this survey, we tested the CSI model and its hypotheses by employing a partial least-squares-based structural equation model analysis and calculated the index. We further conducted an importance-performance analysis in order to provide insights that may be useful for improving the quality of mobile RFID services.

  • A partial ordering is developed here among conditionally positive quadrant dependent (CPQD) bivariate random vectors. This permits us to measure the degree of CPQD-ness and to compare pairs of CPQD random vectors. Some properties and closure under certain statistical operations are derived.

  • When adapting the transmitter to the channel state information(CSI), improved transmission is possible compared to the open loop system where no CSI is provided at the transmitter. However, since the perfect channel information is rarely available at the transmitter, the system design based on the partial CSI becomes an important factor. Especially, in mobile environments, the consideration for the outdated CSI should be applied for mitigating the performance degradation. In this paper, we propose a robust adaptive modulation and coding scheme for bit-interleaved coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing over time-varying channels. With reasonable feedback overhead, the proposed scheme shows the enhanced performance by compensating for the outdated CSI due to Doppler spread. Simulation results confirm that the performance gain is achieved by applying an accurate BER estimation method.

  • The combination of multiple antennas and multi-carrier code division multiple-access (MC-CDMA) is a strong candidate for the downlink of the next generation mobile communications. The study of such systems in scenarios that model real-life trans-missions is an additional step towards an optimized achievement. We consider a realistic MIMO channel with two or four transmit antennas and up to two receive antennas, and channel state information (CSI) mismatches. Depending on the mobile terminal (MT) class, its number of antennas or complexity allowed, different data-rates are proposed with turbo-coding and asymptotic spectral efficiencies from 1 to 4.5 bit/s/Hz, using three algorithms developed within the European IST-MATRICE project. These algorithms can be classified according to the degree of CSI at base-station (BS): i) Transmit space-frequency prefiltering based on constrained zero-forcing algorithm with complete CSI at BS; ii) transmit beamforming based on spatial correlation matrix estimation from partial CSI at BS; iii) orthogonal space-time block coding based on Alamouti scheme without CSI at BS. All presented schemes require a reasonable complexity at MT, and are compatible with a single-antenna receiver. A choice between these algorithms is proposed in order to significantly improve the performance of MC-CDMA and to cover the different environments considered for the next generation cellular systems. For beyond-3G, we propose prefiltering for indoor and pedestrian microcell environments, beamforming for suburban macrocells including high-speed train, and space-time coding for urban conditions with moderate to high speeds.

  • CoMP(Coordinated Multi-Point transmission and reception) refers to a cooperative transmission strategy to control the interference from adjacent base stations in cellular mobile communication systems, which efficiently enhances the data throughput of the systems. As the number of the base stations participating in cooperative transmission increases, however, a larger amount of information exchange to carry the CSI(Channel State Information) of the mobile terminals is required. In this paper, we propose a partial CoMP transmission method for systems under the constraint of finite feedback information data. This method selects candidates of base stations which can provide high efficiency gain when they participate in the CoMP set. To achieve this, the cooperative base station combination is constructed by considering the preferred base stations of users. The cooperative base station combinations are dynamically applied since the preferred base station combinations of users may be different. We perform computer simulations to compare performance of the non-CoMP, full-CoMP and partial CoMP in terms of the average throughput using finite feedback and demonstrate the performance improvement of the proposed method.

  • In communication systems the solution of the problem of maximizing the mutual information between the input and output of a channel composed of several subchannels under total power constraint has a waterfilling structure. OFDM and MIMO can be decomposed into parallel subchannels with CSI. Waterfilling solves the problem of optimal power allocation to these subchannels to achieve the rate approaching the channel capacity under total power constraint. In waterfilling, more power is alloted to good channels(high SNR) and less or no power to bad channels to increase the rate of good channels, resulting in channel capacity. Waterfilling finds the exact water level satisfying the power constraint employing an iterative algorithm to estimate and update the water level. In this process computation of partial sums of inverse of square of subchannel gain is repeatedly required. In this paper we reduced the computation time of waterfilling algorithm by replacing the partial sum computation with reference to an array which contains the precomputed partial sums in initialization phase.
