  • In recent years parking problems have been rapidly highlighted. Particularly on-street parking has become a very serious problem so an immediate action needs to be taken to resolve this problem. On-steet parking is attributable not only to insufficient capacity of parking lots but also to the facts that must of the parking lots are far away from the destinations to which drivers intend to go and that their locations are unclear. The effect of on-street parking is so great as to cause road traffic problems such as traffic jam and danger to road safety as well as to lead to obstructing business activities resulting in a decline of commercial areas. Therefore on-street parking is an important problem for a city as a whole. In this paper I have investigated a parking lot information and guiding system as one of the techniques to resolve the on-street parking problem and have clarified the effect of introducing this system and necessary conditions for implementing an optimum information and guiding system. Moreover I have pointed out the problems to be encountered in imp-lementing such system in areas not equipped with infrastructures taking into account the road conditions in these areas and have stated that it would be necessary to develop a new idea of information and guiding system in order to overcome these problems. I have suggested a Shot Gun Method as a proposal and have discussed extensibility of this method in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the most reasonable design in the superstructure of an underground parking lot which needs to be considered with the economic efficiency being influenced on the subdivision price, construction duration, workability and the maintenance of crack and leakage status of apartment house. In this research, we've evaluated the fitness for the superstructure of an underground parking lot by examination of construction constraint, which was based on the calculated data of structural design and quantity survey. The results of this study are summarized as follows. 1. The system of the absent structure of beam is proper structure for economic efficiency, construction duration and workability, but it is disadvantageous at the side of maintenance efficiency because of the many part of large slab. In the opposite direction, the establishing structure of beam has the advantages of structural stability except economic efficiency, construction duration and workability 2. It's required a proper selection for the views being contrary to each other which the owners considers good quality, on the other hand, the contractors consider construction duration and workability. 3. In making a selection for the superstructure of an underground parking lot, we have concluded that it is the most important to choose the proper structure for the demanded performance by contrasting with two system. • In this paper, we developed a 100% detection system for entering and leaving vehicles by improving the detection rate of existing detection cameras based on the LiDAR sensor, which is one of the core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution. Since the currently operating parking lot depends only on the recognition rate of the license plate number of about 98%, there are various problems such as inconsistency in the entry/exit count, inability to make a reservation in advance due to inaccurate information provision, and inconsistency in real-time parking information. Parking status information should be managed with 100% accuracy, and for this, we built a parking lot entrance/exit detection system using LIDAR. When a parking system is developed by applying the LIDAR sensor, which is mainly used to detect vehicles and objects in autonomous vehicles, it is possible to improve the accuracy of vehicle entry/exit information and the reliability of the entry/exit count with the detected sensing information. The resolution of LIDAR was guaranteed to be 100%, and it was possible to implement so that the sum of entering (+) and exiting (-) vehicles in the parking lot was 0. As a result of testing with 3,000 actual parking lot entrances and exits, the accuracy of entering and exiting parking vehicles was 100%.

  • As the use of electric vehicles perspectively increases, infrastructures for charging car batteries need to be properly planned for satisfying new requirements. This study aimed at theoretically investigating the relative laws, size of existing parking lots, and diverse car sizes for suggesting parking places for electric vehicles. In addition, potential problems for changing existing parking lots to new parking lots for electric vehicles were thoroughly considered. Based on the problem recognition, the feasibility, in particular, of the change of existing parking place to new place equipped with electricity charging systems was investigated. The comprehensive reviews and surveys revealed that additional systems for charging electricity need to be developed to be suspended on the ceiling for existing parking lots in order to prevent changing current layout of the space. This system will alleviate the perspective problems when the charging systems are located on the floor such as contamination, electric shock, and damage by cars. Further study will be followed for testing performance of the suggested systems in the actual parking lots.

  • Generally, a parking lot is constructed using asphalt or concrete. Such materials are impermeable, which means that a parking lot will directly release pollutants to any nearby water system during a rainfall event. An increased quantity of nonpoint source pollutants harms the ecohydrological system and causes further environmental damage leading to dysfunctional water circulation systems. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the design and application of Low Impact Development (LID) systems that allow more effective prevention of water circulation problems and management of nonpoint source pollution. This study aims to support such efforts by analyzing a permeable paver parking lot constructed using one of the LID techniques and comparing it to a conventional one in terms of the concentration of pollutants, nonpoint source pollution load and runoff rainfall lag effects during a rainfall event; it could serve as a reference for the construction of permeable paver parking lots in the future.

  • There have been many studies and technologies that define a current location of a moving vehicle with GPS(Global Positioning System). However, the navigation system with GPS has troubles to search an optimized route considering data such as realtime parking status and road conditions. Moreover, the GPS systems show malfunction in the downtown with very tall buildings, underground parking lot and the inside of buildings. On the contrary, the RFID systems are able to reflect real-time status of parking lots and roads in the downtown. This paper proposes a system of guiding path for parking lots to consider real-time constraints based on RFID. The results obtained from the implemented system show smooth guiding of a new route after immediately sensoring the change of the information of parking lots and roads: if a parking lot that a vehicle is heading to is fully occupied, the system re-searches a new route for a neighbor parking lot and immediately transfers it to customer's mobile, and if the designated route is under construction, the system guides a detour path. The proposed method will be useful for advanced integrated parking control system.

  • This study suggests the user's needs for a smart parking service that enables parking lot search and advance reservation service, and is a study on the user's preference selection model related to fees (reservation fee, penalty fee), etc. Two types of user preference models in the form of logit models were constructed by composing a response questionnaire for smart parking service. The first is a model for selecting a smart parking lot, which suggests a situation in which the probability of selection is higher than that of a general parking lot in the relationship between usage fee and cost. The second is a parking ticket reservation discount selection model, and the smart parking service selection probability was analyzed through the relationship model between the reservation amount and the penalty. It can be used as a design requirement that enables sophisticated and various types of smart parking service considering users' preferences.

  • This study measured and compared the variation of ventilation rate and fan energy consumption according to various control strategies after installing wireless sensor-based pilot ventilation system in order to verify the applicability of demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) strategy that was efficient ventilation control strategy for underground parking lot. The underground parking lot pilot ventilation system controlled the ventilation rate by directly or indirectly tracking the traffic load in real-time after sensing data, using vehicle detection sensors and carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) sensor. The ventilation system has operated for 9 hours per a day. It responded real-time data every 10 minutes, providing ventilation rate in conformance with the input traffic load or contaminant level at that time. A ventilation rate of pilot ventilation system can be controlled at 8 levels. The reason is that a ventilation unit consists of 8 high-speed nozzle jet fans. This study proposed vehicle detection sensor based demand-controlled ventilation (VDS-DCV) strategy that would accurately trace direct traffic load and CO sensor based demand-controlled ventilation (CO-DCV) strategy that would indirectly estimate traffic load through the concentration of contaminants. In order to apply DCV strategy based on real-time traffic load, the minimum required ventilation rate per a single vehicle was applied. It was derived through the design ventilation rate and total parking capacity in the underground parking lot. This is because current ventilation standard established per unit floor area or unit volume of the space made it difficult to apply DCV strategy according to the real-time variation of traffic load. According to the results in this study, two DCV strategies in the underground parking lot are considered to be a good alternative approach that satisfies both energy saving and healthy indoor environment in comparison with the conventional control strategies.

  • As the urbanization progresses, the demand for parking in large cities surges compared with that for parking lots. However, the space for securing a parking lot in a large city is physically limited and a budget problem also arises. Therefore, a shared parking system that can utilize existing parking lots is becoming important. This study was carried out to analyze the parking area efficiently for the residents parking area. As a result of the questionnaire survey, it was the most frequent passage to work / commuting and business purposes. The most important factors in parking were 'Parking charge', 'Walking distance to the destination after parking', 'Parking lot searching time' Approximately 46 % of the respondents were female. As a result of the quantitative analysis of the factors influencing the potential use of the intention to use as a dependent variable, it was analyzed that the policy was effective to reduce the parking fee to less than 500 won per 10 minutes and take about 3-6 minutes to search.

  • The number of vehicles registered in Korea is rapidly increasing and will reach 18.26 million as of June 2011. The rapid increase of large-size passenger cars and RVs among this number is causing damage to other vehicles when parked in currently installed parking lots, increased civil complaints from the damage, and inconveniences to people trying to pass through parking lots as well. In particular, the car-stoppers indiscriminately installed at the parking lots are also causing accidents and adding to parking problems, causing economic losses. Accordingly, there should be new regulations for the amount of parking space per vehicle and for locations to install the car-stoppers. The research has first reviewed the distribution ratio of vehicle models from home and abroad for the width and length of the vehicles by each model, parking space per vehicle where the car-stoppers are installed and examples of changes in distribution ratio. In addition, the amount of parking space per vehicle was calculated with consideration for various specifications by each car model. As a result, margin width of full sized car is decreased by 18~21mm on the existing width. This is judged decreases accident of parking lot, because length of the front of car is not deviate parking Space Section. In conclusion, presented improvement ideas for parking plans with enhanced convenience and safety from the aspect of the drivers. Parking lot relevant businesses will also be maximized in terms of cost and efficiency when the criteria for the structure of parking lots and their installation is established and the improved parking plan is applied in the future.
