  • Speckle photography is a very useful method for measuring in-plane surface displacement. In its basic form, the object to be studied is illuminated with a divergent laser beam, and a double exposure photograph of the object is recorded, on a fine-grain film or plate, before and after the object is deformed, The magnitude and the direction of the displacement can then be obtained by measuring the spacing and the direction of the Young's fringe, which is produced by probing the developed negative with an unexpaned laser beam, and consists of a pattern of parallel equi-spaced dark bands. In this paper, a hybrid optical and electronic image processing is described-Young's fringe on the viewing screen is observed by a TV-camera and the 2-D video signal is converted from analog to digital and transfered to the computer where the spacing and direction of the fringes are calculated. Several examples of application show that the displacement magnitude and direction can be determined with an accuracy of $0.1{\mu}m\;and\;0.1^{\circ}$ respectively.

  • A high-resolution transmission electron microscopy study of the solid phase crystallization of the amorphous silicon thin films, deposited on SiOS12T at 52$0^{\circ}C$ by low pressure chemical vapor deposition and annealed at 55$0^{\circ}C$ in a dry N$_{2}$ ambient was carried out so that the arrangement of atoms in the crystalline silicon and at the amorphous/crystalline interface of the growing grains could be understood on an atomic level. Results show that circular crystalline silicon nuclei have formed and then the grains grow to an elliptical or dendritic shape. In the interior of all the grains many twins whose{111} coherent boundaries are parallel to the long axes of the grains are observed. From this result, it is concluded that the twins enhance the preferential grain growth in the <112> direction along {111} twin planes. In addition to the twins. many defect such as intrinsic stacking faults, extrinsic stacking faults, and Shockley partial dislocations, which can be formed by the errors in the stacking sequence or by the dissociation of the perfect dislocation are found in the silicon grain. But neither frank partial dislocations which can be formed by the condensation of excess silicon atoms or vacancies and can form stacking fault nor perfect dislocations which can be formed by the plastic deformation are observed. So it is concluded that most defects in the silicon grain are formed by the errors in the stacking sequence during the crystallization process of the amorphous silicon thin films.

  • An effective process was employed for synthesizing anisotropic magnetic $SmCo_7$-type alloy flakes with high coercivity, which is highly desirable for many applications. The highest coercivity of 16.3 kOe corresponds to a typical flake thickness of 200 nm for the 3-h ball-milled sample. The anisotropy field was calculated by measuring the parallel and perpendicular directions to the easy magnetization direction of the powders. The anisotropy field decreased with the increase of the ball milling time, thus indicating that the decrease of coercivity was mainly caused by the reduction of the anisotropy field. Microstructure analysis indicated that the morphology, grain size, and anisotropy field of these samples have a great influence on the magnetic properties.

  • This study is to investigate the mechanical properties and the fatigue crack propagation of fire resistance steel for frame structure as the chemical composition was changed by addition of N, B and rolled end temperature was varied. We used two kinds of specimen, the one is parallel and the other is perpendicular to the rolling directions. As rolled end temperature increased, volume fraction of ferrite and pearlite decreased, but volume fraction of baintie and grain size increased. Micro-hardness decreased as rolled end temperature increased, but tensile and yield strength increased. Volume fraction of ferrite and pearlite decreased by addition of N. But volume fraction of bainite, tensile and yield strength increased. Microstructure was changed to martensite by addition of B, and tensile and yield strength increased. Fatigue life of TL direction specimen was shorter than that of LT direction specimen. There was no significant effect to fatigue crack propagation rate by addition of N and changing rolling condition, but fatigue life was increased by addition of B.

  • The crystalline alignment of Ni substrates textured by RABiTS have a probability distribution in the surface plane. This makes it difficult to obtain a high quality of textures over all the range of a long Ni tape. In order to improve the textures of Ni tape, we have investigated a new method of texturing. We obtained non-cube textured Ni tapes by rolling and annealing a high purity Ni. In these tapes, the [001]-axes were tilted around the rolling direction, and the [100]-axes were parallel to the rolling direction. The average grain size was several cm$^2$. We deposited buffer layer (CeO$^2$/YSZ/CeO$^2$) and YBCO on those tapes. We found out that a YBCO film with grows normal with respect to the surface and this feature is independent of the tilting angles of the Ni [001]-axes.

  • The specific gravity of wood treated with the essential oil penetration was higher than that of untreated wood. However, in case of oven-dried wood the difference of treated and untreated products decreased, compared with air-dried wood. The shrinkage of treated wood showed no consistent trend and the difference was trivial. In addition, similar trend was shown in each direction. Compression strength parallel to grain of treated wood was somewhat higher than that of untreated wood and the difference was trivial. The difference in static bending strength was slight and showed no consistent trend. The stage of check for Pinus koraiensis and Populus tomentiglandulosa and Alnus hirsuta was 2 stage and 3 stage, respectively. Deformation stage with no relation to the essential oil treatment was 1 stage for Pinus koraiensis, 2 stage Populus tomentiglandulosa and 3 stage for Ainus hirsuta, respectively, and there was no difference in essential oil penetration.

  • ZnO thin films were grown at different plume-substrate angles by pulsed laser deposition(PLD). From the X-ray diffraction(XRD) result, all ZnO thin films were found to be well c-axis oriented and c-axis lattice constant approached the value of bulk ZnO as plume-substrate(P-S) angle decreased. The grain size of ZnO thin films measured by atomic force microscopy increased and the UV intensity of ZnO thin films investigated by photoluminescence increased as P-S angle decreased. It is found that the improvement of structural and optical properties mainly comes from the reduction of the flux of ablated species arriving on a substrate per a laser shot by tilting a substrate parallel to the plume propagation direction.

  • LTPS technology based on SLS Crystallization was intensively reviewed. LTPS structure produced by SLS crystallization is composed of much larger grains compared with conventional ELA crystallization structure, which can give higher TFT performances. However, TFT performance uniformity and anisotropy problem should be solved for it to be used in mass production. TFT performance uniformity was from main grain boundary position and could be solved by equal defect area structure $(EDAS^{TM})$. TFT performance anisotropy could be also solved by multi-channel (MC) structure that can make parallel component in perpendicular channel direction. The higher TFT performances from SLS technology can make superior optical and/or electrical properties and has been adopted in mass production successfully.

  • The purpose of the study was to demonstrate how to recreate spencer jacket in the empire style in an attempt to apply this historic style to theatrical costumes and other high fashion items in modern times. The study was carried out through 2 steps. (1)Block patterns of spencer jacket of its basic design were developed through draping based on the design characteristics mentioned above. (2)Spencer jackets of three designs, which were the typical designs of each category have been made of velvet to find out more specific structural characteristics. The structural characteristics of Spencer jacket in draping were as follows: (1)Jacket length position was suitable 9cm below body's bust line and neckline should be enlarged front & side neck point 2cm, back neck point 1.5cm. (2)Cut out the front bodice after CF line moved 1cm outwards and bust dart amount should not exceed 2-3cm. Shoulder point moved inwards. (3)Side back grain line was parallel to princess line of the back bodice. Add 0.5cm ease to the under arm of the front and side bark bodice, it was good for the activity of arm. (4)Armhole line was trued as maintaining to across back width 14-15cm at least. Shoulder line was to connect from the point 2cm depart shoulder point along armhole line to point 2cm side neck point along neck line. (5)Sleeve length was suitable 70cm, cut out the bias direction to move forwards the grain line from shoulder point. Puff position was good from the 2cm depart shoulder point to shoulder line.

  • The plywood for concrete form is regarded as a laminate plate composed of orthotropic materials and the flexural analysis is conducted by applying the laminate plate theory, in which the four edges of the plate is assumed to be simply supported and the concentric point lateral load is applied. The results of flexural experiment are compared with the theoretical ones. Theoretically predicted results coincide with experimental ones up to the point of deflection less than 1/4 of plate thickness. In addition, when the plywood is regarded as an isotropic plate for simple analysis, the geometric average of the elastic modulus measured in the direction parallel to the face grain (E11) and perpendicular to the face grain (E22) could be used for the elastic modulus of isotropic plate.
