  • This study has a purpose that definitize correlationship of spatial structure and sales strategies in mixed-use complexes which established in Korea since year 2000. For this purpose, this study tries to analysis spatial structure of mixed-use facilities through space syntax theory and makes an typological categorization based on their space composition. As a result of categorization, Korean mixed-use facilities can be classed as three types. First type is integrated stacking type. Second one is parallel connecting type. Third type is room to room type. According to differences between categories, their spatial structures show different meaning with different sales strategies. Integrated stacking type sales luxury brands and expensive stuffs and it also has deep and complicated structure. That means theses spaces usually make a strategy of exclusion. Parallel connecting type sales special categories and it also has shallow and easy spatial structure. That means these facilities want to make a smooth connection between apposed volumes. Room to room type sales cheap and fancy objects and it also has simple and shallow structure. That means simple spatial structure can be lead contact customer to stuffs. These results mean spatial structure have a effect on design of sales space.

  • Optimality Criteria algorithm based on the derivation of reciprocal approximations has been applied to structural optimization of large-scale structures. However, required computational cost for the serial analysis algorithm of large-scale structures consisting of a large number of degrees of freedom and members is too high to be adopted in the solution process of O.C. algorithm Thus, parallel version of O.C. algorithm on the network of personal computers is presented in this Paper. Parallelism in O.C. algorithm may be classified into two regions such as analysis and optimizer part As the first step of development of parallel algorithm, parallel structural analysis algorithm is developed and used in O.C. algorithm The algorithm is applied to optimal design of a 54-story plane frame structure

  • The construction of parallel tunnel by using the shield TBM method was increased recently. Accordingly the application and the propriety of the parallel shield TBM tunnels were studied through domestic and foreign construction cases herein. Also the behavior of tunnel structure and ground was evaluated by a numerical analysis with various ground conditions and the distance between the parallel tunnels. As a result, it was concluded that a deep investigation as well as a ground reinforcement was required with a ratio(L/D) of the distance between the parallel tunnels(L) to tunnel outer diameter(D) less than 0.5 because the Interference phenomenon was expected to occur. And the appropriateness of the application method of parallel shield TBM tunnel was validated through the 2-dimensional numerical analysis simulated the process of excavation after the ground reinforcement in the starting area of the OOO construction site with the ratio(L/D) of 0.35.

  • In order to find the optimum design of structures that have characteristic natural frequency range, a numerical optimization method to solving eigenvalue problems is a widely used approach. However in the most cases, it is difficult to decide the accurate thickness and shape of structures that have allowable natural frequency in design constraints. Parallel analysis algorithm involving the feasible direction optimization method and Rayleigh-Ritz eigenvalue solving method is developed. The method is implemented by using finite element method. It calculates the optimal thickness and the thickness ratio of individual elements of the 2-D plane element through a parallel algorithm method which satisfy the design constraint of natural frequency. As a result this method of optimization for natural frequency by using finite element method can determine the optimal size or its ratio of geometrically complicated shape and large scale structure.

  • Regulated peak power tracking (RPPT) systems such as the series structure and the series-parallel structures are commonly used in satellite space power systems. However, these structures process the solar array power or the battery power to the load through two cascaded regulators during one orbit cycle, which reduces the energy transfer efficiency. Also the battery charging time is increased due to placement of converter between the battery and the solar array. In this paper a parallel structure has been proposed which can improve the energy transfer efficiency and the battery charging time for satellite space power RPPT systems. An analogue controller is used to control all of the required functions, such as load voltage regulation and solar array stabilization with maximum power point tracking (MPPT). In order to compare the system efficiency and the battery charging efficiency of the proposed structure with those of a series (conventional) structure and a simplified series-parallel structure, simulations are performed and the results are analyzed using a loss analysis model. The proposed structure charges the battery more quickly when compared to the other two structures. Also the efficiency of the proposed structure has been improved under different modes of solar array operation when compared with the other two structures. To verify the system, experiments are carried out under different modes of solar array operation, including PPT charge, battery discharge, and eclipse and trickle charge.

  • This study presents a new method to computes analytical fragility curves of a structure subject to tsunami waves. The method uses dynamic analysis at each stage of the computation. First, the smooth particle hydrodynamics (SPH) model simulates the propagation of the tsunami waves from shallow water to their impact on the target structure. The advantage of SPH over mesh based methods is its capability to model wave surface interaction when large deformations are involved, such as the impact of water on a structure. Although SPH is computationally more expensive than mesh based method, nowadays the advent of parallel computing on general purpose graphic processing unit overcome this limitation. Then, the impact force is applied to a finite element model of the structure and its dynamic non-linear response is computed. When a data-set of tsunami waves is used analytical fragility curves can be computed. This study proves it is possible to obtain the response of a structure to a tsunami wave using state of the art dynamic models in every stage of the computation at an affordable cost.

  • In this paper, we propose advanced parallel join algorithm to efficiently process join operation on hypercube systems. This algorithm uses a broadcasting method in processing relation R which is compatible with hypercube structure. Hence, we can present optimized parallel join algorithm for that hypercube structure. The proposed algorithm has a complete solution of two essential problems - load balancing problem and data skew problem - in parallelization of join operation. In order to solve these problems, we made good use of the characteristics of clustering effect in the algorithm. As a result of this, performance is improved on the whole system than existing algorithms. Moreover. new algorithm has an advantage that can implement non-equijoin operation easily which is difficult to be implemented in hash based algorithm. Finally, according to the cost model analysis. this algorithm showed better performance than existing parallel join algorithms.

  • Damage of reinforced concrete panel subjected to blast load using parallel and domain decomposition is analyzed. The numerical results are sensitive to the mesh size because blast waves are generated during the extremely short term. In order to investigate the effect of mesh size on the blast wave, the analysis results from various wave mesh size using AUTODYN, the explicit finite element analysis program, were compared with existing experimental results. The smaller mesh size was, the higher accuracy was. However, in this case, the analysis was inefficient. Therefore, in order to increase numerical efficiency, the parallel analysis using decomposed method based on Euler and Lagrangian description was performed. Finally, the decomposed method using both the structure domain based on Lagrange description and the blast wave domain based on Euler description was more efficient than the decomposed method using only the Lagrange mesh on structure domain.

  • In this paper, the new casing oscillator, which is a construction machine and which structure is similar to that of a parallel manipulator with redundancy, is proposed. The singularity analysis of this machine is performed by two different methods. First, the singularities are found by the numerical method at configurations where the rank of the Jacobian matrix becomes deficient. The singularities are outside the workspace. To investigate the physical information on these configurations, the singularities are examined by the geometric method at configurations where the casing oscillator cannot resist the external forces and moments applied to the upper platform due to losing static equilibrium. The results of the geometric method are the same as those of the numerical method. It proves that the new casing oscillator is free from the singularity, which causes serious problems to a parallel manipulator.

  • It is well known that a crack has an important effect on the dynamic behavior of a structure. This effect depends mainly on the location and depth of the crack. To identify the location and depth of a crack in a structure, a classical optimization technique was adopted by previous researchers. That technique overcame the difficulty of finding the intersection point of the superposed contours that correspond to the eigenfrequency caused by the crack presence. However, it is hard to select a trial solution initially for optimization because the defined objective function is heavily multimodal. A method is presented in this paper, which uses continuous evolutionary algorithms(CEAs). CEAs are effective for solving inverse problems and implemented on PC clusters to shorten calculation time. With finite element model of the structure to calculate eigenfrequencies, it is possible to formulate the inverse problem in optimization format. CEAs are used to identify the crack location and depth minimizing the difference from the measured frequencies. We have tried this new idea on a simple beam structure and the results are promising with high parallel efficiency over about 94%.
