This paper presents a novel design of a fuzzy control strategy (FCS) based on torque distribution for parallel hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). An empirical load-regulating vehicle operation strategy is developed on the basis of analysis of the components efficiency map data and the overall energy conversion efficiency. The aim of the strategy is to optimize the fuel economy and balance the battery state-of-charge (SOC), while satisfying the vehicle performance and drivability requirements. In order to accomplish this strategy, a fuzzy inference engine with a rule-base extracted from the empirical strategy is designed, which works as the kernel of a fuzzy torque distribution controller to determine the optimal distribution of the driver torque request between the engine and the motor. Simulation results reveal that compared with the conventional strategy which uses precise threshold parameters the proposed FCS improves fuel economy as well as maintains better battery SOC within its operation range.
In recent, there are tremendous requirements to improve the fuel economy of vehicle. For satisfaction of requirements, Hybrid Electric Vehicle or other technologies are suggested and implemented. However, it should be noted that almost 35% energy loss is occurred in the shape of exhaust gas as ever. For increase the efficiency of vehicle, it is certain that the exhaust gas energy should be recover, and generate energy. In previous studies, the technologies such as turbo-compound, thermoelectric and rankine cycle are suggested to recover the exhaust heat energy in vehicle. But, they focus on the conventional vehicle or parallel Hybrid Electric Vehicle. Series Hybrid Electric Vehicle has advantage that the engine and drive shaft are de-coupled. It means that the engine can be operated in high efficiency area regardless with vehicle states. Therefore, if rankine cycle is applied to series hybrid electric vehicle, operating condition of that becomes almost steady. So, in this study, theoretical analysis on the efficiency of rankine cycle applied to series hybrid electric city bus is carried and the energy recovered from exhaust gas during vehicle drive cycle is calculated.
In this study, the advanced shift control algorithm for parallel type hybrid drivetrain system with automated manual transmission(AMT) is proposed. The AMT can be easily realized by mounting the pneumatic actuators and sensors on the clutch and shift levers of the conventional manual transmission. By using the electronic-controlled AMT, engine and induction machine, it is possible to achieve the integrated control of overall system for the efficiency and the performance of the vehicle. Performing the speed control of the induction machine and the engine, the synchronization at gear shifting and the smooth engagement of clutch can be guaranteed. And it enables to reduce the shift shock and shorten the shift time. Hence, it results in the improvement of shift quality and the driving comfort of the vehicle. Dynamometer-based experiments are carried out to prove the validity of the proposed shift control algorithm.

The hybrid electric powertrain is a robust solution that allows for major improvements in both fuel economy and emission reduction. In the present study, a through-the-road hybrid vehicle model with an electric motor driving the rear axle and an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) driving the front axle has been constructed. We then present a systematic method for the determination of a real time applicable optimal Energy Management Strategy (EMS) for a hybrid road vehicle. More precisely, we compare the performance of rule-based EMS strategies to an optimization-based strategy, namely ECMS (Equivalent Consumption Minimization Strategy). The comparison is conducted in parallel with a parameterization of the size of the internal combustion engine and the implementation of a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that allows following the line of best fuel economy. For the FTP-75 driving cycle, the constrained engine On-off control algorithm is shown to offer a 28% improvement potential of fuel consumption compared to the conventional internal combustion engine while the ECMS strategy achieves an improved potential of nearly 33%.
A battery is the primary energy source device presently used in hybrid electric vehicle. It can store much energy, but cannot provide enough current without inefficient units. However, an ultracapcitor can provide much current, but cannot store much energy. It will have better fuel economy by combining the two energy sources in parallel. The purpose of this paper is making the simulator of the two HEV systems. The one has only battery, the other have battery and ultarcapacitor in parallel. To compare the fuel economy, dynamic programing was used for optimization and prius was used for HEV model.

The new engineering challenges lead to a control of a vehicle more and more complex. To tackle this issue, Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) simulation is used in the development of real-time embedded systems. In this paper, the control of a double parallel hybrid vehicle is validated using a reduced power HIL simulation. A graphical description is used in order to organize the emulation and control. Some experimental results of a versatile testbed are given for the Peugeot $3{\infty}8$ HYbrid4.
This paper describes a hybrid dynamic system(HDS) modeling method and result for the drivertrain of a parallel hybrid electric vehicle(PHEV) which consists of a gasoline engine, an electric machine, and a continuous variable transmission (CVT) and proposes a drivetrain control system. The control system has an engine controller, a motor controller, a CVT controller and a supervisory controller for the coordination of all system. The controller keep the speed of engine wheel and the output torque within the optimal operation range based on the experimental data. We also developed a MATLAB/SIMULINK program for the performance simulation of PHEV drivetrain model and controllers and compared the simulation result with the experiment result in the recent literatures.
Due to the increase of oil price, the needs of the reduction of the fuel cost is rising. Therefore, necessity of hybrid vehicle that runs with engine and the electric motor is on the rise. In order to improve the performance of hybrid vehicle, many researches is carried out. Hybrid vehicles have been developed with the various layout such as serial type, parallel type, power split type, and multi-mode type. The multi-mode hybrid vehicles are designed to show the efficient driving characteristics at low speed and high speed. But the multi-mode system have the problem such as frequent clutch engagement. Frequent clutch engagement causes the shock of vehicles, and the shock inhibits the ride comfort. In this study, automation mechanism of clutch operation is proposed to mitigate the shock at engaging clutch. For this purpose, the dynamic characteristics of motor control is numerically analyzed by using Matlab/Simulink.
