Understanding of Non-Thermal Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Characteristics Produced in Parallel Plate Type Geometry

  • Non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasmas have recently garnered much attention due to their unique physical and chemical properties that are sometimes significantly different from those of low pressure plasmas. It can offer many possible application areas including nano and bio/medical areas. Many different types of plasma sources have been developed for specific needs, which can be one of the important merits of the atmospheric pressure plasmas since characteristics of the produced plasma depend significantly on operating parameters such as driving frequency, supply gas type, driving voltage waveform, gas flow rate, gas composition, geometrical factor etc. Among many source configurations, parallel plate type geometry is one of the simplest configurations so that it can offer many insights for understanding basic underlying physics. Traditionally, the parallel plate type set up has been studied actively for understanding low pressure plasma physics along with extensive employment in industries for the same reason. By considering that understanding basic physics, in conjunction with plasma-surface interactions especially for nano & bio materials, should be pursued in parallel with applications, we investigated atmospheric pressure discharge characteristics in a parallel plate type capacitive discharge source with two parallel copper electrodes of 60 mm in diameter and several millimeters in gap distance. In this presentation, some plasma characteristics by varying many operating variables such as inter-electrode distance, gas pressure, gas composition, driving frequency etc will be discussed. The results may be utilized for plasma control for widening application flexibility.

  • In this paper, the driving characteristic for a ring type ultrasonic motor is described. For driving of ultrasonic motor, a two-phase parallel-resonant inverter was made. The driving circuit simulation results are compared with measured frequencis and amplitudes.

  • In a motor driving, the current rate is directly related to the rate of a switching device and in cost reduction, the parallel switching operation is the alternatives because it has the smaller current rate through current division. There are many investigations for the parallel switching operations to equaling the current division. However it remains many problems for practical usage. The reason is that the switching characteristics are mainly relied on the different saturation voltage of each device etc. and these factors are not altered by circuit designer. In order to compensate this problem, a proper resistance is experimently inserted to the switching device. But this method can not be the optimal solution. Therefore this paper proposes a new parallel operation which uses a parallel phase winding to remove the traditional effect of switching device such as saturation voltage according to the division of current. Also the reliable and stable driving is improved through experiments and the detailed principles.

  • In this paper, we examine the displacement characteristics of the parallel leaf spring mechanism with large-deflective elastic hinges, and the validity of this mechanism as a translational and rotational mechanism is confirmed with multi-input system. This study is focused on the linear driving force as an input force, which is applied to the large-deflective elastic mechanism, and the displacement characteristics are discussed with theoretically and experimentally. The motions of this mechanism due to large-deflective hinges are changed by the position of loading force regardless of a single driving force. The numbers of degree of freedom are increased with the hinges, and we can be used to a multiple driving force in order to obtain many types of Output.

  • In this paper an optimal method based on fuzzy logic for controlling parallel hybrid electric vehicles is presented. In parallel hybrid electric vehicles the required torque for deriving and operating the on-board accessories is generated by a combination of internal-combustion engine and an electric motor. The powersharing between the internal combustion engine and the electric motor is the key point for efficient driving. This is a highly nonlinear and time varying plant and its control strategy will be implemented with the use of fuzzy logic controller. The fuzzy logic controller will be designed based on the state of charge of batteries and the desired torque for driving. The output of controller controls the throttle of the combustion engine. The main contribution of this paper is the development of an optimal control based on fuzzy logic, which maximizes the output torque of the vehicle while minimizing fuel consumed by the combustion engine.

  • This paper presents an architecture for driving multiple paralleled cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) for back lighting applications. The key to the architecture is a proposed capacitive coupling approach for lamp ignition. This system is consist of a flyback converter, a single inverter to drive multiple lamps and conductive floating reflector. The topology is capable of driving a number of parallel lamps with independent accurate lamp, current regulation and improving cost effectiveness with significant reduction in size and weight, compared to typical high frequency ac ballast. Experimental demonstration results for ten of parallel CCFLs with simultaneous ignition. This like the EEFL it will be able to use the CCFL is the thing. Also, it investigates the effect where the leakage current goes mad to the Lamp.

  • To analyze the correlation between drivetrain systems and to optimize the vehicle design with satisfying of the initial design objects, the performance sensitivity analysis through the iterative design procedure must be carried out. In this study, effects of the design parameters for the main components of the parallel type hybrid drivetrain system are analyzed by using the developed method of the vehicle performance simulation, and the basis of the optimal selection of the design parameters from the relation of design constraints and required performances is suggested. In driving control of the parallel hybrid vehicle, power split ratio is the most important factor, and the improved drivetrain system can be constructed through the only change of the algorithm for determination of the power spilt ratio, which is strongly applicable to the driving patterns and the environments. Therefore, Various techniques, such as the change of the weighting factors and the range extended algorithm, are suggested and evaluated in this paper.
