The culture of Korea shows political and religious discrimination by changed the era, but in the culture the inherent spirit of Koreans has been more specific at various angles to. But in the last several decades looking at the domestic furniture design field, the introduction of Western technology with high-tech, the mechanical plastics of modern Western European furniture, and imitations have been flooded. Owing to them our spirit were soon altered and made to face the current leads to confusion. Fortunately, in the latest national and international design fair the domestic furniture companies are breaking the ambiguous identity of the design in the meantime they keep studying and developing of our spirit and the demands of the times. Moreover, a new awareness and heightened interest on Korean traditional and stylish furniture are more elevated. At this moment, a study on the Connectivity of Aesthetic Consciousness Appearing in Korean Traditional Architecture and Furniture is required to overcome the today's confusion and to establish identity and the direction of the domestic furniture industry. Thus, this paper purposes to present the new direction for domestic furniture industry by researching and analyzing on the Korean traditional architecture and traditional furniture with the Korean spirit and a sense of beauty.

Recently, the demand for marine leisure industry is rapidly increasing due to the five-day work week and the per capita income approaching US $ 30,000. In particular, the Republic of Korea is surrounded by the sea on three sides and is composed of 3,150 islands and coastline. As shipbuilding infrastructure is abundant and the government is expected to actively support policies as a new growth engine, leisure boat furniture industry is expected to grow rapidly along with leisure boat manufacturing. Therefore, in this paper, after understanding the leisure boat (yacht) and analyzing the requirements of yacht furniture, we proposed a beautiful yacht furniture design that is lightweight, durable and safe using a 120-foot super yacht that can best show the characteristics of yacht furniture using wood bending technology and color variation of woods.

The digital information society that developed along with the 21st century is the 'Open-source Making Movement' which produces collective intelligence through open-source sharing and digital manufacturing tools, which is called 'Makers Movement'. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the case of Makers Movement in furniture design through 'IKEA Hacking' which arose simultaneously with the Makers Movement, and to study and present the prospect and direction of furniture design in the change of manufacturing industry. In this study, four design features were compared with IKEA hacking cases along with the establishment of 'community' which is a feature of Makers Movement. Four characteristics are first customized design, second derivative design through open source, third long -Tail effect design, and fourth, design using digital manufacturing tools. The prospect and direction of furniture design through this study are as follows: first, democratization of furniture design manufacturing, second job creation, third, coexistence of large and small enterprises, fourth promotion of various new technologies, and fifth, discovery of various furniture designers through 'Open System Organization'.

Korean traditionally prefer a house with a southern exposure to other styles. Moreover, pretty part of dwelling style in Korea is apartment building. But generally, there are much more north oriented rooms than opposite one in apartment. Generally, most Korean tends to consider the direction of the room as an important factor to decide the arrangement of their furniture. Also, the location of window, door, bed, and closet can affect on the decision-making process of furniture layout. So, the closet position should be determined by not only window direction and door position, but also the furniture arrangement preference of residents. After considering the window and door position, there are 16 alternatives in a room. (Multiplied 4 window directions by 4 door positions under the assumption that the window and the door cannot be on the same side of the wall.) Also, this study analyzed each room style ratio considering the symmetry of each plan by comparing the apartment building plan. This paper studied the bedroom style by analyzing the 180 apartment building plans and survey of furniture layout; the furniture in this study represents bed and desk those are mainly laid in Korean bedroom. Finally, this paper suggested the methodology to find optimal alternatives of furniture and closet layout for high-rise apartment residents, based on the door and window position, and the furniture layout preference of residents.

This study explored interpretation of the symbolical and metaphorical aesthetics in experiencing art/craft/handmade/studio furniture theoretically for 'wood culture experience class' or 'wood love experience class' by the Korea Forest Service because the class tends to focus on making simple wood works involved just in the practical part. Qualitative conceptual analysis as the principal methodology was used to achieve the theoretical context in the experience programs. After the lesson one on defining the postmodern aesthetics in New Design furniture as metaphor in the previous paper, I developed lesson two for an aesthetics of art and everyday life with wood furniture which expresses the metaphorical and symbolical aesthetics appeared as New Design furniture in postmodernism. As statement of objective in the second lesson, I explored that students in elementary schools personally transform and interpret the postmodern aesthetics of New Design furniture metaphorically with the meanings of symbol. As a result, the students will be able to write about the aesthetics of New Design furniture as metaphor in interpretation transformed by his/her perspective of a piece of selected New Design furniture.

This paper researched the woodcraft in the Baekje kingdom since the study on the Baekje furniture has not been established due to the absence of the artifacts or remains related to the furniture in the Baekje period. Accordingly, the study focused on the excavated Baekje wooden products and wood crafts on the basis of ancient documents and investigated the ancient documents supposedly related to the Baekje furniture: The Chronicles of the Three States and Japan Scribe. As the result of the study, it could be summarized as follows. First of all, the woodcraft materials were wood, whagak, ivory, silver, gold and they were domestic or imported. Secondly, the woodcraft was finished naturally or lacquered with black or red color or varnishing with lacquer. Thirdly, the kinds of furniture used in the Baekje were a desk, a small portable dinning table, a table and folding stool. Even though there has been no heritage of the Baekje furniture and woodcraft and it is difficult to explain the characteristics or give an example of the Baekje furniture in detail, this study seems to be significant now that it researched the documents and related artifacts or remains which could give some hints or hypothesis of the furniture and woodcraft in the Baekje. What is more, there have been no sound studies on the Baekje furniture.

Beauty of the proportion of the furniture of the Joseon Dynasty, have been studied by many researchers along with the ideological background. Furniture Joseon, can know that it has emphasized the beauty by placing the base with simplicity and to base the natural view. However, efforts are missing try to find a logical answer about what is configured by any principle view of nature we are talking about. Therefore, in the present study, we study the beauty of proportion to the center of the hall furniture Korea dynasty, and it was studied perspective of view of nature of the times. Around the neck of the Joseon Dynasty furniture, it is going to become an opportunity to say fundamentally the culture of their own ingenious with uniqueness by reviewing the discrimination of the cultural identity. That illuminates the housing culture through the characteristics of furniture and space, to pursue the unity is going to be able to find a lot of information from a wider point of view. In this paper we present a visual furniture material for efficient survey through use of research results, it is expected that it is used as related documents that can be usefully employed in the development process of the furniture design.

In the radically changing market situation, surface materials of student furniture are a very important element to decide the consumption pattern and the market price. Thus, this study examined the characteristics of surface materials by classifying the student furniture into children's, juniors', and seniors' furniture while accessing the features of such surface materials through Glulam, veneer, poly paper, finishing foil, high pressure melamine (HPM), and low pressure melamine (LPM), and PVC vinyl. When taking a look at the surface materials that were most frequently produced in each domestic furniture company, the combined materials that used more than 2 elements (31.88%), LPM (23.19%), and Glulam (20.29%) were introduced at the market in the order. Regarding the analysis made on colors, the combination colors took more than half (55.32%) followed by brown (13.83%) and beige (11.7%) in the order. Based on the results derived from the analysis, the study suggests to stress more importance to surface materials when developing student furniture and to exert efforts for the consistent development of new materials and quality improvement, as a way to accelerate the development of the furniture industry in Korea.

Thanks to the recent apartment housing sales in new cities and metropolitan area, the public-use furniture market is greatly animated with the development of customized furniture. Nevertheless, the situation becomes difficult because of the fierce competition among the furniture suppliers with quoting at the lower price to get the order. In order to produce unique and stylish living cabinets, it is required for the furniture designer to create the design under the systematic design process collaborated with the construction company and make the design proposal thereby to the construction company. The present paper is focused on the re-usability of TV set currently possessed by the tenant, variability, uniqueness, pricing level suitable for the cost of real estate sales, modern design and so on. in the development of apartment living room cabinet. Thus, it is important for the furniture supplier to realize the importance of the design field in order to enhance the competitiveness of the customized furniture in the apartment housing. Accordingly the present researcher has developed the modem variable living room cabinet in accordance with the systemic design process by realizing the leads of tenant of the apartment housing and then establishing the concept focused on the design required by both the tenant and construction company.

Korea and China have had close relations not only geographically but also ideally and culturally throughout history. Regarding their lifestyles on housing patterns, however, Koreans had a sedentary way of life, usually sitting on the floor while Chinese had a standing lifestyle, sitting on a chair. This paper tries to have a comparative analysis on similarities and distinctions of two countries' traditional furniture that had complied with each lifestyle. This paper also aims to explore the similarities and distinctions of the form and function of the traditional furniture of the two countries and then to put results of this paper in design and plan of modern furniture and housing in our times. The study can be summarized as follows. Even if, cultural and historical relationships of two countries, there is a different of traditional furniture's forms and types. The major differences are as following : Korean furniture is predominantly on the floor level with storing furniture while Chinese one is intermixed with seat-level and floor level styles. These characters seem to be derived from their own housing and life style. In Ming and Qing period China, Their developed in which intermediate people and building. But, in Korea their housing style had floating floor against wet earth, which finished woods, Ondol. Because of these finishing, the Korean traditional furniture was developed into a good form and a suitable dimension for moving. These differences in furnishing style seemed to well reflect building and housing style of each country. And Image map and positioning map can show the differences in a whole aspect.
