  • Fingerprints deposited on paper found at a fire scene are important evidence for determining a suspect's identity. On the other hand, because the temperature at the fire scene is very high, there are many difficulties in developing fingerprints. This study compared the effectiveness of ninhydrin, DFO, and silver nitrate to develop fingerprints deposited on paper exposed to high temperatures. Using a dry heat press, heat was applied to the paper at $200^{\circ}C$ for various times. Silver nitrate was found to be superior to the others under all conditions. Ninhydrin developed fingerprints weakly compared to DFO and silver nitrate. In addition, the sensitivity of DFO decreased with increasing exposure time. Therefore, it is recommended silver nitrate be used to develop fingerprints deposited on paper found at a fire scene.

  • The paper discusses the general behavior of fire-damaged slender reinforced concrete columns on the basis of results obtained from parametric studies. Effects of slenderness ratio, concrete strength, cover thickness, reinforcement ratios, exposed time to fire, and eccentricity on the ultimate capacity of fire-damaged column are theoretically observed. With the increase of slenderness ratio, similar tendency of relative strength reduction was observed between fire-damaged columns and columns at room temperature.

  • An increasing interest in fire safety engineering can currently be identified in Korea and overseas. The fire-resistant characteristics of spray coating material for fire protection with or without nano $Al(OH)_3$ colloid has been experimentally investigated and the results are presented in this paper. The fire-resistance characteristics of spray coating material with nano $Al(OH)_3$ were superior to those without $Al(OH)_3$. Especially, spray coating material with nano material showed that thermal characteristic in the early days was remarkably excellent.

  • Non-destructive testing is essential in the inspection of alteration, repair and new construction in construction industry. This paper is to evaluate the strength variation of fire damaged concrete by non-destructive testing. Furthermore, It is to infer the recovery degree of residual strength of fire-damaged concrete. For this purpose, researchers are exploring the performance of non-destructive testing method using ultrasonic testing and Schmidt hammer in concrete specimens. Testing is performed four-times: before fire test, directly after fire test, after 20 days and after 60 days.

  • Precursor analysis is widely used in the nuclear industry to judge the significance of events relevant to safety. However, in case of events that may damage equipment through effects that are not ordinary functional dependencies, the analysis may not always fully appreciate the potential for further evolution of the event. For fires, which are one class of such events, this paper discusses modelling challenges that need to be overcome when performing a probabilistic precursor analysis. The events used to analyze are selected from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Fire Incidents Records Exchange (FIRE) Database.

  • Many Victims and property damage are caused in fires. In this paper, an flame detection algorithm is proposed to early alarm fires. The proposed flame detection algorithm is based on 2-stage decision strategy of video processing. The first decision is to check with color distribution of input vidoe. In the second, the candidated region is settled as fire region with activity. As a result of simulation, it is shown that the proposed algorithm is useful for fire recognition.

  • This paper is concerned with the numerical analysis of the temperature of steel columns when they are exposed to flame of a fire temperature curve in order to test resistivity against the fire. In this stuer a 2-dimensional heat conduction FDM was developed to predict the temperature dustribution of steel column under various construction conditions. A proposal to estimate the influence of free water content in the insulation also made.

  • In this paper, we propose a new vision-based fire detection method for a real-life application. Most previous vision-based methods using color information and temporal variation of pixel produce frequent false alarms because they used a lot of heuristic features. Furthermore there is also computation delay for accurate fire detection. To overcome these problems, we first detected candidated fire regions by using background modeling and color model of fire. Then we made probabilistic models of fire by using a fact that fire pixel values of consecutive frames are changed constantly and applied them to a Bayesian Network. In this paper we used two level Bayesian network, which contains the intermediate nodes and uses four skewnesses for evidence at each node. Skewness of R normalized with intensity and skewnesses of three high frequency components obtained through wavelet transform. The proposed system has been successfully applied to many fire detection tasks in real world environment and distinguishes fire from moving objects having fire color.
