  • Objectives: To report the improvement of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy and pantalgia with integrative cancer treatment on adverse effects of chemotherapy in a breast cancer patient. Methods: A 63-year-old female patient who has been diagnosed with breast cancer got treated for 103 days with integrative cancer treatment including acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medicine, physiotherapies, hand and foot bath to decrease side effects of chemotherapy. The patient was also treated Western immunotherapies like Thymosin, Viscum album. Paclitaxel, Carboplatin, Doxorubicin, Cyclophosphamide was applied and chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy(CIPN), pantalgia and nausea occured. The efficacy of treatment was measured by a numeric rating scale(NRS) of symptoms, National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Event(NCI-CTCAE) and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group(ECOG) Performance Status Scale. Results: The NRS scroes for CIPN, pantalgia, nausea were improved. There was no adverse effects of 3 or higher assessed by the NCI-CTCAE. The ECOG grade improved from grade 2 to 1. Conclusions: This study suggests that integrative cancer treatment could improve CIPN, pantalgia after chemotherapy in breast cancer.

In the treatment, we should temper the Simyok and recover Hosanjigy(呼散之氣) of Lung by Cheongganjoyoil(淸肝燥熱). In this study, it is experienced that Yangdokbalban of Taeumin patient mistreated with Soyangin, got sick by Korean medical treatment, and also it came to improve the psychosomatic disorder(心身症) generally. The patient was 52 years old, female. • Ohjuksan has been used for the treatment of cold and pantalgia in traditional medicine. The anti-inflammatory activity of the aqueous extract from Ohjuksan (OJSE) was investigated utilizing acetic acid-induced edema and adjuvant arthritis in rats. The effects of this agent on acute toxicity and acetic acid-induced writhing syndrome in mice were also examined. OJSE did not showed acute toxicity at 2400mg/kg (p.o.) and 1200mg/kg(i.p.) body weight. It was also showed to have significant analgesic action on the writhing syndrome in mice induced by 0.7% acetic acid at 300,600mg/kg body weight. It showed anti-inflammatory activity in 5% acetic acid-induced edema and adjuvant arthritis with oral administration in rats and exhibited significant preventive effect on edema at 300 and 600mg/kg(p<0.01). In the method of adjuvant arthritis, orally administered for 19 days, it inhibited the hind paw edema in rats with 300 and 600 mg/kg body weight from 5 th day to 19th day. These results suggest that OJSE had analgesic and anti-inflammatory action.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Korean medical treatment on a fibromyalgia patient with gastrointestinal symptoms, using herbal medicines selected according to new rather than existing standards. Method: A 52-year-old female patient with fibromyalgia was treated with Odu-tang and acupuncture, cupping, and moxibustion for 22 days. To evaluate the treatment, we used the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), American College of Rheumatology's Preliminary Diagnostic Criteria (ACR), and Korean Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (KGSRS). Result: Following treatment, pantalgia diminished, NRS, and ACR scores improved, and the GSRS score decreased from 29 to 11. Conclusion: This study suggests that Korean medical treatment could effectively reduce pain and improve digestive symptoms in patients with fibromyalgia. It also presents a new method that considers individual characteristics when choosing herbal medicine.

  • Objectives: This study reports a case of COVID-19 in which the patient experienced improved clinical symptoms (fever, cough, anosmia, sore throat, pantalgia, and headache) after treatment with Korean medicine. Methods: A 47-year-old male patient diagnosed with COVID-19 was treated with herbal medicine (Mahwangbalpyotang-gagam) three times a day. His clinical course was assessed using changes in body temperature, the Numerical Rating Scale of clinical symptoms, and chest X-ray comparisons between pre-COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 conditions. Results: All the patient's clinical symptoms subsided in 11 days. After 15 days of treatment, his body temperature dropped to a normal range, and the quarantine was lifted. A chest X-ray showed there was no active lung lesion in either lung field after COVID-19. Conclusion: This study suggests that herbal medicine treatment may be an effective treatment for relieving COVID-19's clinical symptoms.

  • Hyangso-san is a traditional herbal medicine that consists of the seven herbal medicines, Cyperi Rhizoma, Perillae Folium, Atractylodis Rhizoma, Citri Unshius Pericarpium, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Zingiberis Rhizoma Crudus, and Allii Fistulosi Bulbus. Hyangso-san has long been clinically used to treat the influenza, including headache, ferver, chills, and pantalgia. In this study, we were performed the simultaneous analysis of the 15 marker compounds (liquiritin apioside, liquiritin, ferulic acid, naringin, hesperidin, rosmarinic acid, liquiritigenin, kaempferol, glycyrrhizin, nobiletin, 6-gingerol, elemicin, atractylenolide III, nootkatone, and atractylenolide I) in Hyangso-san using liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS). Column for the separation of the 15 ingredients was used a Waters Acquity UPLC BEH $C_{18}$ analytical column ($2.1{\times}100mm$, $1.7{\mu}m$) at $45^{\circ}C$ by using a mobile phase of 0.1% (v/v) formic acid in water and acetonitrile with gradient condition. Identifications of all analytes were performed using a Waters ACQUITY TQD LC-MS/MS system. The flow rate and injection volume were 0.3 mL/min and $2.0{\mu}L$, respectively. Correlation coefficient of the calibration curve was ${\geq}0.9958$. The values of limits of detection and quantification of the 15 components were 0.002-4.29 and 0.01-12.88 ng/mL, respectively. The result of an analysis using the established LC-MS/MS method, kaempferol and atractylenolide I were not detected, while other 13 compounds were 0.08-56.87 mg/g in lyophilized Hyangso-san sample.
