Sentinel-2 위성영상을 이용한 하계 논벼와 동계작물 재배 필지 분류 및 정확도 평가 (Classification of Summer Paddy and Winter Cropping Fields Using Sentinel-2 Images)

  • Up-to-date statistics of crop cultivation status is essential for farm land management planning and the advancement in remote sensing technology allows for rapid update of farming information. The objective of this study was to develop a classification model of rice paddy or winter crop fields based on NDWI, NDVI, and HSV indices using Sentinel-2 satellite images. The 18 locations in central Korea were selected as target areas and photographed once for each during summer and winter with a eBee drone to identify ground truth crop cultivation. The NDWI was used to classify summer paddy fields, while the NDVI and HSV were used and compared in identification of winter crop cultivation areas.   • This study refers to the development of a hydrologic model simulating daily inflow and release rates for inigation reservoirs. A daily - based model is needed for adequate operation of an irrigation reservoir sufficing the water demand for paddy fields which is closely related to meteorological conditions. And the objective of this study is to develop a reservoir release rate model and then to calibrata the parameters. The release rates model considers daily water demands , water supply for transplanting, minmum release for maintaining canal flow, and maxirnun and regular flooding depth for determining effective rainfall on paddy fields. Each of the factors in the model was regarded as a lumped pararuter representing the average condition of a whole irrigated area. The water demand was estimated form the potential evapotranspiration by Penman method, the effective rainfall, and the infiltration on paddy fields. The release model was found to be capable of adequately simulating daily reservoir releases based on meteorological data.

양수장지구 광역논으로부터 영양염류 유출 및 물질수지 (Water and Nutrient Balance of Paddy Field Irrigated from a Pumping Station)

  • A field monitoring study was carried out to investigate the water balance and losses of nutrients from paddy fields in Sumjin river basin. The size of paddy fields was 115 ha and the fields were irrigated from a pumping station. The runoff loading was the highest in June because of the high concentrations of nutrients due to applied fertilizer. The surface runoff losses of T-N and T-P in runoff water were 53.4 to 68.3kg/ha(average 59.7kg/ha) and 0.38 to 2.20kg/ha(average 1.42kg/ha), respectively. When the runoff losses of nutrients were compared to applied chemical fertilizer, it was found that 42% to 60% of nitrogen lost via runoff while runoff losses of phosphorus account for 3.0% to 17.2% of the total applied amount during entire year.

Duration-Related Variations in Archaeal Communities after a Change from Upland Fields to Paddy Fields

  • Archaea substantially contribute to global geochemical cycling and energy cycling and are impacted by land-use change. However, the response of archaeal communities to a change from upland field to paddy field has been poorly characterized. Here, soil samples were collected at two depths (0-20 cm and 20-40 cm) from one upland field and six paddy fields that were established on former upland fields at different times (1, 5, 10, 20, 30, and 40 years before the study). Barcoded pyrosequencing was employed to assess the archaeal communities from the samples at taxonomic resolutions from phylum to genus levels. The total archaeal operational taxonomic unit (OTU) richness showed a significant positive correlation with the land-use change duration. Two phyla, Euryarchaeota and Crenarchaeota, were recorded throughout the study. Both the relative abundance and OTU richness of Euryarchaeota increased at both depths but increased more steadily at the subsurface rather than at the surface. However, these data of Crenarchaeota were the opposite. Additionally, the archaeal composition exhibited a significant relationship with C/N ratios, total phosphorus, soil pH, Olsen phosphorus, and the land-use change duration at several taxonomic resolutions. Our results emphasize that after a change from upland fields to paddy fields, the archaeal diversity and composition changed, and the duration is an important factor in addition to the soil chemical properties.

인삼 논재배에서 황증이 발생한 토양과 식물체의 무기성분 함량 특성 (Soil Chemical Property and Leaf Mineral Nutrient of Ginseng Cultivated in Paddy Field Occurring Leaf Discoloration)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the cause of leaf discoloration occurring frequently in paddy cultivation. Chemical property of soil and inorganic nutrient component of leaf were analyzed on abnormal fields of 7 regions where leaf discoloration occurred severely and normal fields of 7 regions among ginseng garden. The pH of abnormal fields was strong acidic condition (pH 5.51) compare to normal fields of slightly acid condition (pH 6.42). Calcium and magnesium content in abnormal fields were lower distinctly than that of normal fields, while EC, organic matter, phosphate, and potassium content showed not distinct difference between abnormal and normal fields. Whereas calcium and magnesium content were distinctly high in normal fields, both of potassium and iron content of ginseng leaf were distinctly high in abnormal fields. In particular, iron content of abnormal fields was more 1.94 times in soil, and 3.03 times in leaf than that of normal fields. In soil chemical property, there were significant negative correlation between leaf discoloration ratio and soil pH, and there were also significant positive correlation between leaf discoloration ratio and iron content. In ginseng leaf, there were highly significant negative correlation between leaf discoloration ratio and calcium content, and there were also highly significant positive correlation between leaf discoloration ratio and iron content.

여름철 토지피복별 기온변화 특성 (Characteristics of Air Temperature Variations under Different Land Covers during Summer)

  • We investigated the characteristics of temperature variations under different land covers (paddy field, upland, urban park, and urban residential area) during hot summer (July 15 to August 19, 2005). The temperatures were monitored using data loggers at one hour intervals in study sites. The mean temperature generally increased with the distance from edge of paddy fields, being $1.5^{\circ}C$ higher at a site 170-m far from paddy fields than at a paddy field area at 22 h. The mean daily temperatures in the study period followed the ordo. of paddy field $(26.6^{\circ}C)$ < upland $(27.0^{\circ}C)$ < park $(27.5^{\circ}C)$ < residential area $(28.0^{\circ}C)$. The paddy field area has shown remarkable cooling effects compared to the residential area: Mean duration of temperature below $25^{\circ}C$ in the paddy field area was longer (8.6 hrs) than in the residential area; The time to fall to below $25^{\circ}C$ in the paddy field area was sooner (22.4 hr) than in the residential area; Mean daily minimum temperature in the paddy field area was much lower $(2.4^{\circ}C)$ than in the residential area. More research is needed to better clarify the mechanism of cooling effect of a paddy field area by investigating heat balance of a paddy field.

광역논에서의 용존성과 입자성 영양물질의 거동 특성 (Behavior of the Dissolved and Particulate Nutrient at Paddy Field Area)

  • Nutrients behavior were investigated at a paddy fields area(Soro-ri) with large-scaled plots on loam soil during irrigation seasons of $2001\~2003$. The average concentration of TN, TDN and TDP in drainage water was higher than that in irrigation water. On the other hand, the average concentration TP in irrigation water was higher than in drainage water. The ratio of TDN to TN accounted (or over $90\%$ and the ratio of TDP to TP accounted for $50\~70\%$. Especially the ratio of TDP to TP in drainage water was higher than that in irrigation water, suggesting that much of particulate component was reduced due to sedimentation and adsorption in paddy fields plots. Overall, particulate phosphorus usually account for 44 to $77\%$ of tile total phosphorus during storm events.

Application of Electrical Resistivity Survey For Contaminant Evaluation at Uncontrolled Landfills

  • To evaluate geology and extent of leachate migration around the landfills, electrical resistivity survey were conducted in area of uncontrolled landfills in Cheonan and Wonju. The Cheonan landfill is located above the paddy fields and the resistivity survey lines were crossed to confirm possible pollution of the paddy fields by leakage of the landfill leachate. In Wonju, the landfill and the downgradient paddy fields are divided by a concrete barrier wall. At the bottom of the landfill, there is a leachate settlement system but has not been in operation. And a total of 4 survey line installed (1 parallel and 3 perpendicular to mean groundwater flow direction). According to the resistivity survey results, the landfill leachate in Cheonan appeared to be restricted only within the interior of the landfill, not to migrate into the subsurface of the paddy fields. These results are well consistent with electrical conductivity values of groundwaters obtained from a periodic analysis of water qualities. In Wonju, however, it was inferred that the leachate emanating from the landfill migrated beneath the abandoned leachate settlement system and it would reach the downgradient paddy field.

논에서의 비점오염부하 예측을 위한 엑셀기반의 PADDIMOD2 개발 (Development of Excel Based PADDIMOD2 for Estimating Nonpoint Source Pollutant Loadings from Paddy Rice Fields)

  • PADDIMOD2 was deloped to estimate nonpoint source pollution from paddy rice fields. The PADDIMOD2 was enhanced to estimate runoff and pollutant load during non-growing as well as growing season and to be easily used for public by development of Excel based system. Nutrient concentration and hydrology were based on Dirac delta function and continuous source function, and tank model for growing season and Event Mean Concentrations (EMCs) and SCS-Curve Number method for non-growing season. The PADDIMOD2 consists of three main component (input data, parameters data, and output data) by including eight Excel spread sheets. As a result of model application, total precipitation and irrigation were 1,051.7 mm and 439.2 mm, respectivley and surface runoff and water loss including infiltration and evapotranspiration were 463.0 mm and 947.9 mm, respectively. Annual nutrient loadings of T-N and T-P from study area were 6.7 kg/$km^2$/day and 0.5 kg/$km^2$/day, respectively. Development of PADDIMOD2 was focused on minimizing input data and maximizing user friendly system and is expected to be useful tool to evaluate various non-structure BMPs and estimate unit load from paddy rice fields for application at Korean TMDL.

논의 휴한기 이용형태와 토양화학성이 토양세균의 탄소원 이용에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Agricultural Practice and Soil Chemical Properties on Community-level Physiological Profiles (CLPP) of Soil Bacteria in Rice Fields During the Non-growing Season)

  • BACKGROUND: Soil bacteria play important roles in organic matter decomposition and nutrient cycling during the non-growing season. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of soil management and chemical properties on the utilization of carbon sources by soil bacteria in paddy fields. METHODS AND RESULTS: The Biolog EcoPlate was used for analyzing community-level carbon substrate utilization profiles of soil bacteria. Soils were collected from the following three types of areas: plain, interface and mountain areas, which were tested to investigate the topology effect. The results of canonical correspondence analysis and Kendall rank correlation analysis showed that soil C/N ratio and NH4+ influenced utilization of carbon sources by bacteria. The utilization of carbohydrates and complex carbon sources were positively correlated with NH4+ concentration. Cultivated paddy fields were compared with adjacent abandoned fields to investigate the impact of cultivation cessation. The level of utilization of putrescine was lower in abandoned fields than in cultivated fields. Monoculture fields were compared with double cropping fields cultivated with barley to investigate the impact of winter crop cultivation. Cropping system altered bacterial use of carbon sources, as reflected by the enhanced utilization of 2-hydroxy benzoic acid under monoculture conditions. CONCLUSION: These results show that soil use intensity and topological characteristics have a minimal impact on soil bacterial functioning in relation to carbon substrate utilization. Moreover, soil chemical properties were found to be important factors determining the physiological profile of the soil bacterial community in paddy fields.
