The influences of ram pressure on the performances of tilting-pad journal bearings are investigated experimentally. The test rig consists of a single tilting-pad and a rotating journal. Film thicknesses and pressure distribution of the lubricating film are measured continuously for several values of coordinate of the pivot position and journal speed. The findings of the investigation are as follows: (]) According as the journal speed increases the ram pressure increases, maximum pressure decreases and the pivot position which maximize the minimum film thickness shifts toward the leading edge. (2) The ram pressure makes it possible to generate the converging wedge and the positive pressure between the pad and the journal even when the pad is supported at the points between the leading edge and the center of the pad. (3) The influence of the ram pressure on the performance of tilting pad bearings is significant and must be considered in the design of these bearings.
Chemical mechanical polishing(CMP) performances can be optimized by several process parameters such as equipment and consumables (pad, backing film and slurry). Pad properties are important in determining removal rate and planarization ability of a CMP process. It is investigated the performance of oxide CMP process using commercial silica slurry after the pad conditioning temperature was varied. Conditioning process with the high temperature made the slurry be unrestricted to flow and be hold, which made the removal rate of oxide film increase. The pad became softer and flexible as the conditioning temperature increases. Then the softer pad provided the better surface planarity of oxide film without defect.
In order to rpovide proper SMT design criteria in a systematic way, a mathematical formulation has been developed to predict the configuration of the solder fillet formed between the gullwing type lead and rectangular pad. Effects of SMT design parameters such as the solder volume and pad dimension on the solder profile are investigated using the FEM that calculates the 3D configuration by minimizing the energy due to surface tension and gravity in the equilibrium state. Design criteria of QFP and SOP are illustrated by plotting the acceptable range of the solder volume with respect to the length and width ratios of the pad and lead. The results show that the acceptable design range increases with increase in the pad length and width. The pad length has more significant effects on design criteria compared with the pad width, and Bond number can be utilized to predict the joint quality.
The thermal behaviors of disk-pad braking models has been analyzed for a high-speed train brake system using the coupled thermal-mechanical analysis technique. The temperature distribution, thermal distortion, and contact stress in the disk-pads contact model have been investigated as functions of the convective heat transfer rate. The FEM results indicate that multiple spot type pads show more stabilized thermal characteristics compared with those of the flat type pads for the increased convective heat transfer rate. The maximum contact stress for a friction pad loaded against a rubbing disk was occurred on the edge of the pad at the disk-pad interface.
In this paper, thermohydrodynamic characteristics of large tilting pad journal bearings which have $3\~8$ tilting pads were numerically analyzed. The turbulent lubrication equation and the energy equation were solved. The regime of operation of this bearing is laminar, turbulent and transitional. Also viscosity of working fluid was considered as function of only temperature and inlet pressure build-up was considered. Numerical results for a large tilting pad journal bearing showed pressure distribution, temperature distribution, eccentricity ratio, and friction torque. The effects of pad number on the static performances of a large tilting pad journal bearing are discussed.
The thermohydrodynamic analysis of tilting pad thrust bearing is studied with the consideration of elastic effect of pad. Reynolds equation, deflection equation and energy equation are solved simultaneously with the boundary conditions. Reynolds equation is modified as the approximate form. Pads are supported by the line pivot and the point pivot respectively. Pads are considered as the flat planes. Effects of pad thickness on the performance of thrust bearing are emphasized and the performances of rigid pad and elastic pad are compared. Effects of inlet temperature on performances of the bearing are compared. Dynamic characteristics of both pad supported by line and point pivot are compared.
Degumming is an essential process to improve the luster and smoothness of the silk filament. Silk varieties were degummed using different methods. A number of methods, from pad-steam to specific alkaline are being used for this propose. In this paper an attempt to compare the efficiencies of different degumming processes has been made. from the results, it may be observed that when silk fabrics were pad-steam, the degree of degumming, as assessed by weight loss. When the pad-steam degumming was carried out at different pHs, adjusted using alkalies, it was observed that at higher pH the weight loss is high. Pad-steam degumming as well as star degumming was found to be superior with minimum damage to the substrate. Among the alkalis used, the sodium carbonate gives the best results, since the weight loss is almost maximum with lower strength loss by over degumming. It is also efficient from the point of view of conservation of heat energy and time as against the comparable star degumming.
Euccal fat pad is special fat tissue which is different from subdermal fat. Anatomically, buccal fat pad is easy to harvest in the course of dental surgery procedure. In 1802, it was introduced by Bichat, Since Egyedi used buccal fat pad flap for the closure of oro-antral fistula and oro-nasal fistula, it has been widely used as an alternative method for the reconstruction of small to medium-sized intraoral defects in oral and mzxillofacial surgery. Kim et al. reported successful results in the all cases they applied buccal fat pad for the reconstruction of intraoral defect from their 31 months follow-up data. Because intraonal wounds are difficult to complete the layered suture and there are high risks of infection related with wound dental implant surgery, double layer closure using some kind of local flaps or other procedure is recommended. So we are to introduce the useful applications of the pedicled buccal fat pad in the dental surgery procedure from the various case presentations.
A wheel force becomes large as increasing the stiffness of rail-pad, and it accelerates the deterioration of track, and it leads the maintenance cost rising. So, it is required to determine an appropriate replacement period for rail-pad. As a preliminary study to determine it, a numerical analysis was conducted to investigate the influence on a track behavior by the hardening of rail-pad. From the analysis, one knows that the dynamic wheel force is vary depend on the stiffness of rail-pad and the running speed of vehicle, the displacement and acceleration of rail is decreasing as increasing stiffness of rail-pad, and the displacement and acceleration increased in proportion to the rail-pad stiffness increasing.
In studying the fatigue strength of fillet welded the section of pressure vessel pad, this study was to evaluate the effect of weld toe notch and to compare the results of numerical analysis with the results of fatigue experiments of fillet welded A5l6 grade 60 steel specimens. The fatigue life for the Bead welded specimen was about 1.4 times as much it as the 1Pad welded specimen. Also, The fatigue life for the 2Pad welded specimen was about 1.5 times as much it as the 1Pad welded specimen. In $da/dN-{\Delta}K$ curve, the fatigue crack growth rate for the 1Pad welded specimen appeared higher than that of the 2Pad welded specimen in the same initial region of ${\Delta}K$, had a similar Inclination In the stabled region.
