  • Pressure distribution in the cavity during injection molding affects part quality. In this study pressure distributions in the runner, near gate in the cavity, and end of ail in the cavity have been measured using direct pressure sensors for various molding conditions. Molding conditions were injection speed, injection pressure, packing time from filing stage, and packing pressure. Through experiments it was realized that the packing time from filling stage and packing pressure are the dominant factors on the part quality such as part shrinkage. Experimental results have been compared with computer simulations.

  • Injection molding operation consists of filling, packing, and cooling phase. The highest pressure is involved during the packing phase among the operation phases. Cavity pressure depends upon velocity to pressure switchover time and magnitude of packing pressure. The cavity pressure is directly related to stress concentration in the cavity of mold. Thus the observation and control of cavity pressure is very important to prevent mold cracking. In this study, cavity pressures were observed for operational conditions using the commercial CAE software, Moldflow. Operational conditions were velocity to pressure switchover time and packing pressure. Cavity pressures were also measured directly during injection molding. Simulation and experimental results showed good agreement.

  • The main target of this research is investigating the relations between mechanical properties and injection conditions, like injection pressure, packing pressure and packing time for various contents ratio of glass fiber and resin. In general idea, high injection pressure produces high strength of molded parts as a monotonic function. but it was revealed that high pressure does not make high strength directly through various experiments of injection molding. In this experiments, PA66 was selected as resin and Glass Fiber was selected as reinforcing fiber Fiber reinforcement was controlled, as 14%, 25%, 33%, 44% of total volume and packing pressure was divided 55%, 65%, 75%, 85% of reference pressure, i.e. 100% equal to 1400kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. Finally, tensile testing was executed for injected test specimen. Optimum results based on authors' experiments have been obtained under conditions of 25% and 33% of glass fiber contents. Tensile strength rather depends on the packing pressure and packing time than injection pressure. Especially almost equal value of tensile strength was obtained for various percentage of packing and injection pressure as 65%, 75% and 85% of reference pressure.

  • We give some sufficient conditions for the null and infinite derivatives of the $Riesz-N{\acute{a}}gy-Tak{\acute{a}}cs$ (RNT) singular function. Using these conditions, we show that the Hausdorff dimension of the set of the infinite derivative points of the RNT singular function coincides with its packing dimension which is positive and less than 1 while the Hausdorff dimension of the non-differentiability set of the RNT singular function does not coincide with its packing dimension 1.

  • Poncirus trifoliata Rafinesque has been used as the immature fruit of the trifoliate orange tree. This study was carried out to investigate the quality change of Poncirus trifoliata Rafinesque depending on packing materials (vacuum packing, PP (polypropylene) packing, gunny sack packing), storage places and storage periods up to 12 months. The change of loss on drying content, content of poncirin were measured during the 12 months. As a result, the loss on drying content was decreased rapidly in gunny sack packing after storage of 12 months at room temperature. The content of poncirin was decreased generally according to storage conditions and its average loss percent was 38.8%.

  • The accompanying paper, Part 1, has presented the physical modeling and basic numerical analysis results of both the flow-induced and thermally-induced residual stress and birefringence in injection molded center gated disks. The present paper, Part II, has attempted to investigate the effects of various processing conditions of injection/compression molding process on the residual stress and birefringence. The birefringence is significantly affected by injection melt temperature, packing pressure and packing time. Birefringence in the shell layer increases as melt temperature gets lower. The inner peak of birefringence increases with packing time and packing pressure. On the other hand, packing pressure, packing time and mold wall temperature affect the thermally-induced residual stress rather significantly in the shell layer, but insignificantly in the core region. Injection/compression molding has been found to reduce the birefringence in comparison with the conventional injection molding process. In particular, mold closing velocity and initial opening thickness in the compression stage of injection/compression molding process have significant effect on the flow-induced birefringence, but not on tile thermal residual stress and the thermally induced birefringence.

  • Series of experimental work was performed to mold tensile specimens by using the injection molding machine Mold temperature, melt temperature and packing time were chosen as processing parameters for studying the effects of those conditions on the linear shrinkage of final product. Here, each processing variable was decided from the numerical simulation and resin manufacturer's suggested value. The effects of molding conditions on the linear shrinkage in flow direction of the resin were analyzed by measuring the parts 2, 10, 30 and 60 days after molding. As a result, the linear shrinkage increased with the higher mold and melt temperature, and the change of mold temperature has shown more influence. The linear shrinkage of polypropylene has been found to progress up to 30 day with the lapse of the time, and the amount of the linear shrinkage has shown to be between 2.14% and 2.75%. In addition, the effects of packing pressure on the weight has shown to be extremely significant up to freezing time, and proper packing time of the tensile specimen has been found to be 2.0 seconds.

  • The stress behavior analysis of a-rings and packing for a LPG filling unit has been presented using a finite element analysis technique by non-linear MSC/MARC program. The sealing performance and endurance of a-rings and packing are affected by working conditions such as filling pressure, friction coefficient, compression ratio, and material properties. The elastomeric polymers of O-rings and packing are nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which are selected as proper materials of a-rings and packing based on the stress analysis results. The calculated FEM results showed that the proper material of O-ring is NBR as a secondary sealing component and the recommended material of packing is PTFE as a primary sealing unit during a LPG filling process.

  • This study was carried out to obtain basic information for optimum storage method of leaf, stem and root of Angelica acutiloba Radix, which is being utilized as major cultivated herbal medicine materials, root of Angelica acutiloba was stored for 3 months in different packing materials and sealing methods, such as punched packing, sealing and vacuum packing. The results are summarized as follows. The loss in weight as influenced by packing materials and sealing degree was the lowest at vacuum packing and complete sealing condition with transparent polyethylene film. The ratio of root rot during the storage period was not significantly different between polyethylene films, but it was significantly different between sealing conditions. Therefore, vacuum packing and complete sealing with polyethylene film are desirable storage condition for Angelica acutiloba Radix.

  • The results of warmth retaining, heat transfer and compressive elastic recovery of the five kinds of bedspread fabrics, which were produced from packing weft of 2700 denier and 3600 denier batt yarn treated with raw material of Polyester $150^D$/48 DTY, are as follows: 1) 3600 denier packing weft showed lover count in compressive elastic recovery than 2700d packing weft, so it took longer time to recover. 2) When packing weft of the same count is used, a sample of packing weft with higher density showed lower recovery. 3) It took 2700d packing weft 30min to get approximately 98% recovery in temperature $30^{\circ}C$. But, 3600d packing weft stayed under 98% recovery in the same temperature. Considering only the result of compressive elastic recovery, we should use 2700d packing weft. 4) The higher the density of packing weft is, the higher warmth retaining becomes. Although sharp increase appeared until 5min, equilibrium was kept without any increase after that time. 5) When 2700d packing weft was used, the maximum warmth retaining was approximately 60% and 64% in the conditions of density 12(thread/in) and 22(thread/in) respectively.
