Most of the current mobility management protocols such as MIPv4/6 and its variants standardized by the IETF do not support global seamless handover. This is because they require comprehensive changes of the existing network infrastructure. In this article, we propose a simple mobility management protocol (SMMP) which can support global seamless handover between homogeneous or heterogeneous wireless networks. The idea is that the SMMP employs separate location management function as done in SIP to support global user and service mobility. In addition, the bidirectional tunnels are dynamically constructed to support seamless IP mobility by extending the IEEE 802.21 MIH standards. The detailed architecture and functions of the SMMP have been designed. Finally, the simulation results, using NS-2, show that the proposed SMMP outperforms the existing MIPv6 and HMIPv6 in terms of handover latency, packet loss, pear signal noise ratio (PSNR).
SVC(Scalable Video Coding), which is one form among video encoding technologies, makes video streaming with the various frame rate, resolution, and video quality by combining three different scalability dimensions: temporal, spatial, and video quality scalability. As the above SVC-encoded video streaming consists of one base layer and several enhancement layers, and a wireless AP(Access Point) chooses and sends a suitable layer according to the received power from the receiving terminals in the changeable wireless network environment, the receiving terminals supporting SVC are able to receive video streaming with the appropriate resolution and quality according to their received powers. In this paper, after the performance analysis for the received power, packet loss rate, PSNR(Required Peak Signal to Noise Ratio), video quality level and amount of received video data based on the number of SVC layers was performed, an efficient method for selecting the number of SVC layer satisfying the RSNR and minimizing the amount of received video data is proposed.

In multi-hop wireless networks, a message transmission path is set up on demand by a route discovery step, where a shortest path is used in general. The shortest path, however, normally uses the nodes near the center area, which causes a high traffic load in that area and reduces the message transmission reliability. We propose a stable routing protocol considering the remaining energy of nodes. Our protocol uses ETX as a link performance estimator and tries to avoid the nodes with smaller energy. By doing this, we can reduce the route failure probability and packet loss. We have evaluated the performance of the proposed protocol using QualNet and compared with AODV and MRFR protocols. The simulation result shows that our protocol has a similar performance as MRFR in terms of end-to-end message reception ratio, average message delay and delay jitter, but outperforms MRFR in terms of traffic load distribution.

High data rates in long-term evolution (LTE) networks can affect the mobility of networks and their performance. The speed and motion of user equipment (UE) can compromise seamless connectivity. However, a proper handover (HO) decision can maintain quality of service (QoS) and increase system throughput. While this may lead to an increase in complexity and operational costs, self-optimization can enhance network performance by improving resource utilization and user experience and by reducing operational and capital expenditure. In this study, we propose the self-optimization of HO parameters based on fuzzy logic control (FLC) and multiple preparation (MP), which we name FuzAMP. Fuzzy logic control can be used to control self-optimized HO parameters, such as the HO margin and time-to-trigger (TTT) based on multiple criteria, viz HO ping pong (HOPP), HO failure (HOF) and UE speeds. A MP approach is adopted to overcome the hard HO (HHO) drawbacks, such as the large delay and unreliable procedures caused by the break-before-make process. The results of this study show that the proposed method significantly reduces HOF, HOPP, and packet loss ratio (PLR) at various UE speeds compared to the HHO and the enhanced weighted performance HO parameter optimization (EWPHPO) algorithms.
The network-based IP mobility solution - Proxy MIPv6 provides a mobile node with local mobility support without requiring MIPv6 functionality of the mobile node by using two principle functional entities, LMA (Local Mobility Anchor) and MAG (Mobile Access Gateway) located in a Proxy MIPv6 domain. Yet, in case that a mobile node moves into a mobile network located in the domain, the mobile node can't receive the local mobility support any more because it can't communicate with the MAG. This paper proposes a scheme to support nested network mobility in a Proxy MIPv6 domain by adding MAG functionality to a mobile router in the mobile network and evaluates the performance of the proposed scheme. Performance analysis shows that the proposed scheme can increase the performance of handover delay, signaling costs, and packet loss ratio.
A MANET is an autonomous, infrastructureless system that consists of mobile nodes. In MANET, on-demand routing protocols are usually used because network topology changes frequently. The current approach in case of broken routes is to flag an error and re-initiate route discovery either at the source or at the intermediate node. Repairing these broken links is a costly affair in terms of routing overhead and delay involved. Therefore, this paper propose a NAODV(Neighbor-aware AODV) protocol that stands on the basis of an AODV. It sets up the route rapidly if it operates for setting the route directly by using sequence number of neighbor nodes without re-search the route when the route to destination node is broken. Also, it reduces loss of packets. We use NS-2 for the computer simulation and validate that the proposed scheme is better than general AODV in terms of packet delivery ratio and average end-to-end delay. Also, when the proposed protocol is applied to the large ad-hoc network with multiple nodes, the performance is more efficient.

The Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) has two main problems to be overcome due to high mobility and frequently changing density: one is short link duration time and the other is high packet loss ratio. To solve the problems, there have been many studies to predict vehicular mobility. Most of the studies try to enhance link expire time and link reliability, however the distance between two relay nodes becomes too short to have high network throughput. In this paper, we propose a new routing algorithm that considers both link expire time and network throughput in the VANET. The proposed algorithm aims to find path with long link expire time and high throughput. Our simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the legacy greedy algorithm and its variants.

According to the recent development of network technology, the demands of users are diversified and the needs of multimedia traffic are increasing. In general, UDP(User Datagram Protocol) traffic is used to transport multimedia data, which satisfied the real-time and isochronous characteristics. UDP traffic competes with TCP traffic and incur the network congestion. However, TCP traffic performs network congestion control but does not consider the receiver's status. Thus, it is not appropriate in case of streaming services. In this paper, we solve a fairness problems and proposed a network algorithm based on RTP/RTCP(Real-time Transport Protocol/Realtime Transport Control Protocol) in view of receiver status. The POBA(Priority Ordered Buffer Algorithm), which applies priorities in the receiver's buffer and networks, shows that it provides the appropriate environment for streaming services in view of packet loss ratio and buffer utilization of receiver's buffer compared with the previous method.

Most of the previous mobility management protocols such as IETF MIPv4/6 and its variants standardized by the IETF do not support global seamless handover because they require partially changes of the existing network infrastructure. In this article, we propose a simple mobility management protocol (SMMP) which can support global seamless handover between homogeneous or heterogeneous wireless networks. Objectives Non-major depression with fewer symptoms than required for a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-4th edition diagnosis of major depressive disorder (MDD) has consistently been found to be associated with functional impairment. In this study, we aim to estimate the cognitive impairment and the quality of life in elderly patients with subsyndromal depression (SSD) compared with non-depressive elderly (NDE). Methods The Korean version of Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview was administered to 194 outpatients with depression and 108 normal controls. SSD is defined as having five or more current depressive symptoms with core depressive symptoms (depressive mood or loss of interest or pleasure) during more than half a day and more than seven days over two weeks. Depression was evaluated by the Korean form of Geriatric Depression Scale of a 15-item short version. Global cognition was assessed by Mini-Mental State Examination in the Korean version of CERAD assessment packet (MMSE-KC). Subjective cognitive impairment was assessed by the Subjective Memory Complaint Questionnaire. Quality of life was evaluated by the Korean Version of Short-Form 36-Item Health Survey. Results The mean score of the MMSE-KC in the SSD group was lower than that in the NDE group with adjustment for age, gender, and education [F = 4.270, p = 0.04, analysis of covariance (ANCOVA)]. If we defined those having Z-score of MMSE-KC < -1.5 as a high risk group of cognitive impairment, the odds ratio for the high risk group of cognitive impairment was 1.86 [95% confidence intervals (CI) 1.04-3.34] in SSD and 7.57 (95% CI 3.50-16.40) in MDD compared to NDE. The scores of physical component summary (F = 9.274, p = 0.003, ANCOVA) and mental component summary (F = 53.166, p < 0.001, ANCOVA) in the SSD group were lower than those in the NDE group with adjustment for age, gender, and education. Conclusions The subjects with SSD, as well as those with MDD, showed impairment of global cognition and also experienced low quality of life in both physical and mental aspects, compared to the NDE group.
