Design and Performance Analysis of a Contention-Based Reservation Protocol for a Local Area Optical Internet

  • In this paper, we propose and analyze a new multiple access protocol for a local area optical Internet based on a wavelength division multiplexing technique which uses a passive star coupler. The proposed contention-based reservation protocol can support variable-length as well as fixed-length messages for transporting Internet packets with one reservation of a minislot at the beginning of a packet transmission. The minislot is used to reserve the data channel on the basis of the slotted ALOHA protocol and the control node ensures subsequent message transmission on the same wavelength. Thus, all messages need not be broken down to many fixed-length packets, and consecutive messages are transmitted through the same wavelength. Moreover, the proposed protocol reduces the collision probability of minislots and improves wavelength utilization. We determine the maximum throughput and verify the results with simulation.

Dynamic Retry Adaptation Scheme to Improve Transmission of H.264 HD Video over 802.11 Peer-to-Peer Networks

  • This paper presents a dynamic retry adaptation scheme for H.264 HD video, called DRAS.264, which dynamically adjusts the retry limits of frames at the medium access control (MAC) layer according to the impact those frames have on the streamed H.264 HD video. DRAS.264 is further improved with a bandwidth estimation technique, better prediction of packet delays, and expanded results covering multi-slice video. Our study is performed using the Open Evaluation Framework for Video Over Networks as a simulation environment for various congestion scenarios. Results show improvements in average peak signal-to-noise ratios of up to 4.45 dB for DRAS.264 in comparison to the default MAC layer operation. Furthermore, the ability of DRAS.264 to prioritize data of H.264 bitstreams reduces error propagation during video playback, leading to noticeable visual improvements.

  • Fast IP address lookup in routers is essential to achieve packet forwarding in wire-speed. The longest prefix matching for IP address lookup is more complex than exact matching because of its dual dimensions, length and value. By thoroughly studying the current proposals for IP address lookup, we find out that the binary search could be a low-cost solution while providing high performance. Most of the existing binary search algorithms based on trie have simple data structures which can be easily implemented, but they have some problems because of empty internal nodes. The proposed algorithm is based on trie structure, but empty internal nodes are replaced by priority prefixes. The best-matching-prefix search in the proposed algorithm is more efficiently performed since search can be finished earlier when input is matched with a priority prefix. The performance evaluation results show that the constructed priority-trie has very good performance in the lookup speed and the scalability.

  • It is possible to make a practical application for many services by using Home Networking. It's brings much improve the quality of our life. Remote control communication should be made by Home Network but present networks are generally using wireless Internet. But, this method don't use exist home and not install wireless internet. Because It need to many devices. Therefore, in this paper we implement gas valve remote control system using RPM(Radio Packet Modem). We can easily installing systems and operating. This system provide different solution for Home networking.

  • In this paper, the 128bit AES block cipher algorithm OCB (Offset Code Book) mode for privacy and authenticity of high speed packet data was efficiently designed in C language level and was optimized to support the required capacity of contents server using high performance DSP. It is known that OCB mode is about two times faster than CBC-MAC mode. As an experimental result, the encryption / decryption speed of the implemented block cipher was 308Mbps, 311 Mbps respectively at 1GHz clock speed, which is 50% faster than a general design with 3.5% more memory usage.

  • The next generation mobile multimedia network is expected to provide higher-rate multimedia communication services to versatile mobile terminals moving in even higher speed. For achieving more efficient reusability of scarce radio resources and thereby accommodating more user population in this network, the smaller cell such as micro or pico cell structure is used. More efficient and faster hand-over schemes are necessary to prevent the degradation of QoS of multimedia services caused by hand-over processing delay and packet loss during frequent hand-over. This paper proposes a faster and more effective hand-over scheme for high-rate multimedia services in the future mobile multimedia networks. by utilizing the GPS information on the position of the mobile terminal and its estimated moving directions. The simulation results show that our proposed method provides a better performance than the conventional method.

  • In this paper, we first introduce our own binary CDMA technology. Then we propose a wireless distribution automation system using the binary CDMA technology. The major research items are the binary CDMA distribution automation system, piconet configuration for remote control and monitoring, scheduling for the transmission and reception of data, and ways of applying encryption to protect wireless packet. To verify the possibility of applying wireless transmission to the distribution automation system, we experiment the implemented system in terms of the transmission rate by applying it to a real-world environment.

  • 본 논문에서는 IMT-2000을 위한 이중 모드 패킷 전송 방식에 대한 성능을 분석하고, 동적 임계치 설정을 이용한 이중 모드 패킷 전송 방식을 제안한다. 먼저, 다양한 채널 환경과 트래픽 유형을 고려하여, 공용 채널과 전용채널 간의 모드 전환을 위한 임계치의 변화에 따른 성능의 변화를 고찰하였다. 성능 분석 결과, 채널 환경과 트래픽 형태에 따라서 스위칭 임계치 설정이 매우 중요하며, 성능에 큰 영향을 미치게 된다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고, 이중 모드 방식에서 스위칭 임계치를 동적으로 설정하는 방식을 제안하고 시뮬레이션을 통해 성능을 분석하였다. 제안된 동적 임계치를 사용할 경우에 채널 상황이나 트래픽 특성 변화에 적응적으로 대처할 수 있어, 전반적으로 고정 임계치 방식보다 성능이 크게 개선됨을 알 수 있었다.

A Multi-hop OFDM Frame Structure for Short-Range Underwater Acoustic Communication Networks

  • In this paper, for the purpose of providing high data rate services, the multi-hop frame structure is designed for the underwater acoustic (UWA) short-range system which is proposed as a part of ocean surveillance and tracking network (OSTN). Under the measured underwater channel environment, the link-level system performance are also evaluated. Simulation results show not only the packet error rate (PER) comparisons, but the optimal modulation and coding scheme (MCS) levels for the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based short-range UWA communications network.
