  • A high performance liquid chromatographic method was developed for the determination of DA-6034 in biological fluids using internal standard. Plasma containing DA-6034 and inter nal standard was extracted by liquid-liquid extraction at an acidic pH. After evaporation of the organic layer, the drug and internal standard were reconstituted with mobile phase and injected into the column. They were separated by high performance liquid chromatography on inertsil ODS II column at 334 nm. The detection limit of DA-6034 in plasma was 0.02 ${\mu}$g/ml. In this method, the range of recovery and coefficients of variation were 96-110% and 0.40-3.78%, respectively. There was no interference from endogenous substances. Urine and bile were analysed using the deproteinization method and the detection limit of DA-6034 was 1${\mu}$g/l.

  • In this paper, thermal stability of Nickel silicide formed on p-type silicon wafer using Ni-V alloy film was studied. As compared with pure Ni, Ni-V shows better thermal stability. The addition of Vanadium suppresses the phase transition of NiSi to $NiSi_2$ effectively. Ni-V single structure shows the best thermal stability compared with the other Ni-silicide using TiN and Co/TiN capping layers. To enhance the thermal stability up to $650^{\circ}C$ and find out the optimal thickness of Ni silicide, different thickness of Ni-V was also investigated in this work.

  • Examining the microbial populations in the Han River estuary, we conducted this experiment at six sites of the estuarine area, Chollyu-ri, Cholsan-ri, Wolgon-ri, Chogi-ri, Inhwa-ri, and Oepo-ri for 5 months since May 1967. From the results obtained it could be summarized as follows. 1) The salinity of the estuarine water increased in order of the distances from the base point of the Old Han River Bridge to every site of the estuary, and pH of the water, which were between 7. 3 and 8. 1, showing little difference each other in both the sites and dates of experiment. 2) The populations of the general bacteria and coliform group bacteria were highest at the site of Chollyu-ri, and it decreased with the downstreaming of the river water toward Oepo-ri site. As for fungi which have comparatively high tolerance to the salinity, its population was shown hi hest at Chogi-ri. 3) The relationship between the salinity and the number of the general bacteria have indicated that the incresed salinity reduced the growth rates of the bacteria. By this it can be assumed that the fresh-water bacteria decreased due to the sea water as well as its dilution effects. 4) The high pollution of the esturarine water was caused by the increases of inhabitants and water thrown by industries in Seoul and Kyung-In Industrial District as well as the excrements fertilized to the farms.

  • Biochemical markers of bone turnover has received increasing attention over the past few years, because of the need for sensitive and specific tool in the clinical investigation of osteoporosis. Bone markers should be unique to bone, reflect changes of bone loss, and should be correlated with radiocalcium kinetics, histomorphometry, or changes in bone mass. The markers also should be useful in monitoring treatment efficacy. Although no bone marker has been established to meet all these criteria, currently osteocalcin and pyridinium crosslinks are the most efficient markers to assess the level of bone turnover in the menopausal and senile osteoporosis. Recently, N-terminal telopeptide (NTX), C-terminal telopeptide (CTX) and bone specific alkaline phosphatase are considered as new valid markers of bone turnover. Recent data suggest that CTX and free deoxypyridinoline could predict the subsequent risk of hiP fracture of elderly women. Treatment of postmenopausal women with estrogen, calcitonin and bisphosphonates demonstrated rapid decrease of the levels of bone markers that correlated with the long-term increase of bone mass. Factors such as circadian rhythms, diet, age, sex, bone mass and renal function affect the results of biochemical markers and should be appropriately adjusted whenever possible. Each biochemical markers of bone turnover may have its own specific advantages and limitations. Recent advances in research will provide more sensitive and specific assays.

  • A comparative investigation of the complexations of divalent metal ions (Cd, Cu, and Pb) by a well characterized soil humic acid (HA) from Okchun Metamorphic Belt was carried out in 0.05 M $KNO_3$ and pH of 4.5 using ion selective electrodes. A continuous distribution model based on the Scatchard Plot was used to determine the stability constants, because the constants obtained by this modeling technique takes the variations in binding energies into consideration without regards to the manner in which M(II) ion is bound on HA. The mean value of log $K_i$ were $4.05{\pm}0.60,\;4.92{\pm}0.36,\;and\;5.63{\pm}0.34\;{\ell}\;mol^{-1}$ for Cd(II)-, Pb(II), and Cu(II)-humate complexes respectively. The values of intrinsic constant (log $K_{int}$; binding at strongest site) were $7.12{\pm}0.30,\;6.59{\pm}0.32,\;and5.07{\pm}0.56\;{\ell}\; mol^{-1}$ in the order Cu(II) > Pb(II) > Cd(II) ion.

  • The physiological effects of oligogalacturonic acid (OGA:D. P. 6-7), a product of acid hydrolysis of polygalacturonic acid (PGA), on ethylene biosynthesis in mung bean (Vigna radiata W.) hypocotyl segments was studied. Among PGA, OGA and monogalacturomic acid (MGA), only OGA stimulated ethylene production in mung bean hypocotyl segments, and the most effective concentraton of OGA was 50$\mu\textrm{g}$/mL. Time course data indicated that this stimulatiion effect of OGA appeared after 90 min incubation period and continued until 24 h. When indol-3-acetic acid (IAA) and 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) were treated with OGA to investigate the mechanism of OGA on ethylene production, they did not show synergistic effects on ethylene production. The stimulation of ethylene production by OGA was due to the increase of in vivo ACC synthase activity, but OGA treatment had no effect of in vivo ACC oxidase activity. The effect of aminoethoxy vinyl glycine (AVG) and Co2+, the inhibitor of ethylene synthesis, was siminished a little by the OGA, but the treatment of Ca2+, known to increase ACC, with OGA did not increase the ethylene production, this effect seems to be specific for Ca2+ because other divalent cation, Mg2+, did not show the inhibition of OGA-indyuced ethylene production. It is possible that the OGA adopts a different signal transduction pathway to the ethylene bioxynthesis.

  • One of the better-characterized transcription factor of E. coli is the cAMP receptor protein(CRP) and the CRP binds cAMP and DNA. The cAMP-CRP complex is involved in regulation of many genes at bacteria. The cAMP-CRP regulatory element represents, in some respects, a global regulatory network. The aim of this work was to study the structure and the mechanisms controlling the expression of CRP in Serratia marcescens. We have been get 5 different clones from Serratia which stimulated the cells to use maltose as a sole carbon source in E. coli TP2139. The crp gene clone, pCKB12, was confirmed by Southern hybridization with E. coli crp gene. The location of the crp gene was determined by construction subclones carrying various portions of pCKB12. To investigate the potential role of CRP in E. coli, lacZ fused plasmids were constructed and investigated the ${\beta}$-galactosidase activity of the fused plasmid. The Serratiamarcescens cAMP receptor protein can substitute the E. coli CRP in transcriptional activation at the lacZ gene. These results suggest that Serratia marcescens cAMP receptor protein complex functions to regulate several promoters in E. coli.

  • This study is aimed at offering basic data about prevention of Hepatitis B virus and infection control to dental hygiene students who will work mostly at dental offices which are characteristically exposed to a high risk of HBV infection. For this study, surveyed were 188 sophomores and juniors of the dental hygiene department who volunteered to undergo the tests of HBsAg and HBsAb. The examination of the blood collected from the samples and analysis of their perception about hygiene resulted in following conclusion: Positive HBsAg Four was found in 4 testees(2.1%) while 118(62.8%) revealed positive HBsAb. Juniors showed higher positive rate in HBsAg whereas sophomores had higher positive rate in HBsAb. But such difference has statistically no significance. Generally, students seemed to pay little attention to HBV, judging from the survey of their perception about the present state of HBsAg and HBsAb(p>0.05), conduct of infection(p<0.05), completion of 3 requested vaccinations(p>0.05), and formation of antibody(p>0.05). With regard to the infection routes of HBV, most students(92.4%) replied "through blood", which is statistically insignificant, though. Next ratio goes to the reply "through contaminated injectors". This reply came more from sophomores than from juniors, a difference which is statistically significant(p<0.05). The lowest rate of possible infection(29.2%) was thought to be "through breast-feeding of a positive mother"(p<0.05). In general, it turned out that sophomores had more knowledge about the infection routes of HBV than juniors. In terms of clinical history among family members, 6(3.1%) reported that some of their family members are currently suffering from a liver complaint, 3(1.6%) replied their family members were once afflicted, and 4(2.1%) said their members died of hepatitis. Except 10(4.7%), all the surveyees replied that their states of health are better than normal. Generally, sophomores are healthier than juniors except for the very health case, a difference which is statistically of no value.
