An amperometric glucose biosensor has been developed using viologen derivatives as a charge transfer mediator between a glucose oxidase (GOD) and a gold electrode. A highly stable self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of thiol-based viologen was immobilized onto the gold electrode of a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) and GOD was immobilized onto the viologen modified electrode. This biosensor response to glucose was evaluated amperometrically in the potential of -300mV. Upon immobilization of the glucose oxidase onto the viologen modified electrode, the biosensor showed rapid response towards glucose. Experimental conditions influencing the biosensor performance, such as pH potential, were optimized and assessed. This biosensor offered excellent electrochemical responses for glucose concentration below ${\mu}$ mol level with high sensitivity and selectivity and short response time. The levels of the RSDs (<5%) for the entire analyses reflected the highly reproducible sensor performance. A linear calibration range between the current and the glucose concentration was obtained up to $4.5{\times}10^{-4}M$. The detection limit was determined to be $3.0{\times}10^{-6}M$.

In this study, two types of PS substrate were fabricated for sensing of chemical and biological substances. For sensing of the humidity and chemical analyzes such as $CH_3OH$ or $C_2H_5OH$, PS layers are prepared by photoelectrochemical etching of silicon wafer in aqueous hydrofluoric acid solution. To evaluate their sensitivity, we measured the resistance variation of the PS diaphragm. As the amplitude of applied voltage increases from 2 to 6Vpp at constant frequency of 5kHz, the resistance variation for humidity sensor rises from 376.3 to $784.8{\Omega}$/%RH. And the sensitivities for $CH_3OH$ and $C_2H_5OH$ were 0.068 uA/% and 0.212 uA/%, respectively. For biological sensing application, amperometric urea sensors were fabricated based on porous silicon(PS), and planar silicon(PLS) electrode substrates by the electrochemical methods. Pt thin film was sputtered on these substrates which were previously formed by electrochemical anodization. Poly (3-methylthiophene) (P3MT) were used for electron transfer matrix between urease(Urs) and the electrode phase, and Urs also was by electrochemically immobilized. Effective working area of these electrodes was determined for the first time by using $Fe(CN)_6^{3-}/Fe(CN)_6^{4-}$ redox couple in which nearly reversible cyclic voltammograms were obtained. The $i_p$ vs $v^{1/2}$ plots show that effective working electrode area of the PS-based Pt thin film electrode was 1.6 times larger than the PLS-based one and we can readily expect the enlarged surface area of PS electrode would result in increased sensitivity by ca. 1.6 times. Actually, amperometric sensitivity of the Urs/P3MT/Pt/PS electrode was ca 0.91uA/$mM{\cdot}cm^2$, and that of the Urs/P3MT/Pt/PLS electrode was ca. 0.91uA/$mM{\cdot}cm^2$ in a linear range of 1mmol/L to 100mmol/L urea concentrations

$YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7}$ single layer dc SQUID magnetometers, prepared on $1\;cm^{2}\;SrTiO_{3}$ substrates, have been fabricated and characterized. Based on the analytical description, a SQUID magnetometer design having a 8.5 mm pickup coil with 2.6 mm linewidth, and a SQUID inductance Ls = 50 pH with $3\;{\mu}m$ Josephson junctions is presented. The devices showed a maximum modulation voltage depth of $65\;{\mu}V$ and a magnetic field noise of 0.6 pT /$\sqrt{Hz}$ at 1 Hz. Clear traces of human magnetocardiogram could be obtained with the SQUID magnetometer operating at 77 K.
In every large hospital, nurses must perform simple repetitive tasks such as measuring body temperature. Such tedious work reduces nurses' motivation to provide quality medical care, which is an important element of the medical services provided by a hospital. If a device were available to measure body temperature, nurses could focus on the more important aspects of providing quality medical care to the patients. However, body temperature is generally measured from the throat, anus, tympanum or armpit, where it is difficult to affix a patch type device. In addition, general body temperature measuring points shows moving artifact error; therefore, it is not good point to continually measure the temperature. In this paper, a patch type skin temperature measuring system was developed. To appropriately measure the skin temperature, a thermal transducer was implemented with a thin (0.5 mm) temperature sensor. The system is small and thin ($H6.6{\sim}5.3{\times}L35{\times}W24\;mm$), and weighs only 5 g including a battery, case and circuit; therefore, it is small and light enough to function as a patch type device. Moreover, the system worked for 5 days. To investigate differences between the experimental and conventional thermometer, simple clinical experiments were performed with 17 volunteers, and the result showed some correlation between the implemented system and conventional thermometer (Correlation coefficient = 0.647, P<0.1).
Crystallographically {h00}-oriented $0.94(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_{3}-0.06BaTiO_{3}$ (0.94BNT-0.06BT) ceramics was prepared by the Reactive Templated Grain Growth (RTGG) method using the $Bi_{4}Ti_{3}O_{12}$ template. The sheets prepared by tape-casting of slurries containing the templates and starting materials are cut, laminated, and pressed. Then burn-out and sintering was conducted. Also, to compare with the 0.94BNT-0.06BT ceramics prepared by the RTGG method another 0.94BNT-0.06BT ceramics was prepared by the solid-state method. In the optimum of this experiments range, the degree of orientation of the 0.94BNT-0.06BT ceramics prepared by the RTGG method was texture fraction${\approx}92%$ and the piezoelectric constant($d_{33}$) and coupling factor($k_{p}$) was obtained to $d_{33}{\approx}205{\;}pC/N$, $k_{p}{\approx}0.33%$, respectively.

The right and left atrial pressures are important parameters in automatic control of a total artificial heart (TAH) within normal physiological ranges. Our TAH is composed of a moving actuator, right and left ventricles and the interventricular space enclosed by a semi-rigid housing. During operation of the TAH, the jnterventpicular space's volume is changed dynamically by the difference between the ejection volume of one ventricle and the inflow volume of the other. Therefore, the changes in pressure of the interventricular space is related to both atrial pressures. We measured the interventricular pressure (IVP) waveform using a pressure sensor and attempted to indirectly estimate the changes of atrial pressures. This method has an advantage that the sensor does not contact the blood directly. Furthermore, the IVP waveforms have its zero baseline in each pump cycle, thus the pressure measurements are free from the transducer drift problems by measuring the peak pressure from these baseline values. From the In vitro experiments, we found that the IVP waveform contained several useful parameters such as negative peak, dP/dT on the initial break, the area enclosed by the profile in each stroke, which are associated with atrial pressures and the filling conditions of the ventricles. The measured atrial pressures were linearly related to the negative peak of the interventricular pressure.
In this paper, we used U.V.(wavelength, 355nm) laser for adjusting Pt thin films temperature sensor to $100{\Omega}$ at $0^{\circ}C$. Internationally, A-class tolerance of temperature sensor is $0.06{\Omega}$ at $0^{\circ}C$. This is under value of $0.15^{\circ}C$, actually, so high-fine trimming technology is essential to this process. The width of trimmed lines was about $10{\mu}m$ and the best trimming of Pt thin films of $1{\sim}1.5{\mu}m$ was carried out with power : 35mW, rep. rate frequency : 200Hz and bite size : $1.5{\mu}m$. And using photolithography process, 96 resistors were fabricated in $2"{\times}2"$ substrate as the proportion of $79{\sim}90{\Omega}$ and $91{\sim}102{\Omega}$ is 42.7% and 57.3%, respectively. As result of trimming resistors to the target value of $109.73{\Omega}$ at $25^{\circ}C$, 82.3% of resistors had the tolerance within ${\pm}0.30{\Omega}$ and the others(17.7%) were within ${\pm}0.06{\Omega}$ of A-class tolerance.

The purpose of this study was to analyze bradykinesia of toe tapping movement in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) as compared to those of normal subjects. 39 PD patients (age: $65.5{\pm}11.2$ yrs, H&Y stage:$2.3{\pm}0.5$), 14 eldelry subjects with comparable mean age ($65.0{\pm}3.9$ yrs) and 17 healthy young subjects ($24.1{\pm}2.1$ yrs) participated in this study. Angular velocity during repetitive toe tapping movement was measured in both feet using a gyro sensor system. Suggested quantitative measures of bradykinesia were root-mean-squared (RMS) angular velocity, RMS angle, peak power and total power which were derived from the angular velocity signal. ANOVA showed that all measures were significantly different among three groups (p<0.001). Subsequent post-hoc test revealed that all measures in PD patients were significantly smaller than in healthy elderly and healthy young subjects (p<0.02). All measures were significantly correlated with UPDRS scores(r=-0.689~-0.825). These results suggest that the developed system can be used as quantitative measures of the lower limb bradykinesia in PD patients.
The effect of $MnO_{2}$ as a sintering additive on the microstructures and the piezoelectric properties, especially mechanical quality factor, of 0.05 Pb$(Sb_{0.5}Nb_{0.5})O_{3}$-0.95 Pb$(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_{3}$ (PSN-PZT) piezoelectric ceramics was investigated. The samples were sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. The crystal structure and surface morphology of the sample were examined using XRD and FE-SEM, respectively. A study on the influence of $MnO_{2}$ additives on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties showed that the $MnO_{2}$-added PSN-PZT system exhibited a high mechanical quality factor and well-situated piezoelectric properties. The optimized results of $d_{33}$ (319 pC/N), $k_{p}$ (55 %), and $Q_{m}$ (751.24) were obtained at 0.2 wt% $MnO_{2}$ added PSN-PZT piezoelectrics.
The effect of $CeO_2$ as a sintering additive on the microstructure and the piezoelectric property of yPb$(Sb_{0.5}Nb_{0.5})O_3$-(1-y)Pb$(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ ($0{\leq}y{\leq}0.1$, PSN-PZT) for a hypersonic sound speaker (HSS) application was investigated. The samples were sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. The crystal structure and surface morphology of the samples were examined using XRD and FE-SEM, respectively. Study on the influence of $CeO_2$ additives on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties indicated that the $CeO_2$-added PSN-PZT system had a high piezoelectric properties. The optimized results of ${\varepsilon}_r=1209$, $K_p$=52% $d_{33}$=351(pC/N) and $Q_m$=1230.16 were obtained at 0.4 wt.% $CeO_2$-added PSN-PZT.
