A series of laboratory tests were conducted to verify the unhardening phenomena of Soil-Cement Wall (SCW) and the results are presented in this paper. Specimens are prepared by mixing the site soil with cement and additives at a various ratio. The hydration of the cement mixed with the in-situ soil was retarded due to the higher organic content of the soil. In order to remove the influence of the organic matters in hydration reaction, calcium chloride (CaCI$_2$) was added as an acceleration additive at a different ratio. The optimum ratio of the calcium chloride for the higher SCW strength was determined as 2% of cement weight. The strength, however, was decreased by adding 4 and 6% of the additives. The effect of other additives, NaOH and NaSiO$_2$, were also investigated and the results are included. The strength of SCW by adding sodium hydroxide was lowered. And the short term strength by adding sodium silicate was increased but the long term strength was decreased.

A precision test of hydrometer method, used to determine soil texture, was conducted on selected 10 soil samples, compared to pipette method. Soil texture measurements with hydrometer method were performed with monitoring the temperature of soil suspension in settling cylinder. The temperature and its fluctuation during settling time had a range of $13^{\circ}C-28^{\circ}C$ and $0.2^{\circ}C-4.4^{\circ}C$, respectively. The difference of clay content between hydrometer and pipette method were distributed from -6.4% to 4.0%. Positive end of difference in clay content was observed at soil having very low clay content, whereas negative end at soil having high organic matter content and exchangeable cations. Except both ends, difference in clay content of soils was less than 3%, and expecially closed to 0% in soils having clay content more than 25%. The difference of sand content were distributed from -1.5% to 4.2%. Similar to clay content, positive end soil was soil sample having lowest sand content.

Purpose : To evaluate the usefulness and reproducibility of $^1H$ MRS in different 1.5 T MR machines with different coils to compare the SNR, scan time and the spectral patterns in different brain regions in normal volunteers. Materials and Methods : Localized $^1H$ MR spectroscopy ($^1H$ MRS) was performed in a total of 10 normal volunteers (age; 20-45 years) with spectral parameters adjusted by the autoprescan routine (PROBE package). In all volunteers, MRS was performed in a three times using conventional MRS (Signa Horizon) with 1 channel coil and upgraded MRS (Echospeed plus with EXCITE) with both 1 channel and 8 channel coil. Using these three different machines and coils, SNRs of the spectra in both phantom and volunteers and (pre)scan time of MRS were compared. Two regions of the human brain (basal ganglia and deep white matter) were examined and relative metabolite ratios (NAA/Cr, Cho/Cr, and mI/Cr ratios) were measured in all volunteers. For all spectra, a STEAM localization sequence with three-pulse CHESS $H_2O$ suppression was used, with the following acquisition parameters: TR=3.0/2.0 sec, TE=30 msec, TM=13.7 msec, SW=2500 Hz, SI=2048 pts, AVG : 64/128, and NEX=2/8 (Signa/Echospeed). Results : The SNR was about over $30\%$ higher in Echospeed machine and time for prescan and scan was almost same in different machines and coils. Reliable spectra were obtained on both MRS systems and there were no significant differences in spectral patterns and relative metabolite ratios in two brain regions (p>0.05). Conclusion : Both conventional and new MRI systems are highly reliable and reproducible for $^1H$ MR spectroscopic examinations in human brains and there are no significant differences in applications for $^1H$ MRS between two different MRI systems.
The degree of cosmetic's oxidation depends on the storage conditions and external conditions when using the product. The microbial contamination and oxygen exposure often results in the quality deterioration of cosmetics. In addition, the problem is that consumers often use cream-type cosmetics, which have short expiration period (6-12 months), even after the product is expired. When using the deteriorated cosmetics, it can be fatal to consumers' safety including some symptoms such as folliculitis, rashes, edema, and dermatitis. Therefore, it is necessary to develop sealed smart packaging for cosmetics to prevent the deterioration of cosmetics and improve consumer safety. In this study, we have developed smart packaging design for cosmetics that can measure the surrounding environment and expiration date for the cosmetics in the real time. In addition, the smart packaging includes sensor, which are linked to the mobile application. Users can find out the measurement results through the application. Also, the packaging design and functions were set up based on the survey results by the user and feasible model can be produced based on user choice. The measurement in the three environment has been done after manufactured the sensor, PCB, and mobile application. As a result, it works normally within a certain range under all three environmental conditions. It is believed that the information on expiration dates and storage environment can be efficiently delivered to the consumers through developed cosmetics smart packaging and applications. The development of UI/UX design for consumer is further studied. The UX/UI design of the application plays an essential role in achieving this goal through the commercialization the cosmetic products in the wide range.
This experiment was conducted to find out the compositions of nutrient solution for closed system in substrate culture of cucumber. Cucumber(Cucumis sativus L. cv. Eunsung baekdadagi) plants were grown in the substrates supplied with the nutrient solutions whose strengths were 1/2, 1, and 3/2 of the original concentration developed by National Horticultural Research Station in Japan. By increasing the nutrient concentrations, plant height decreased but leaf length, leaf width, and leaf number showed little differences. A number of marketable fruit and marketable yield were the highest in the concentration of 1 strength. The nutrient compositions of solution developed for closed system in cucumber substrate culture were N 11.4, P 3.3, K 6.0, Ca 4.5, and Mg 3.5 me.$\ell$$^{-1}$ during the vegetative growth period and N 10.4, P 3.3, K 5.0, Ca 4.5, and Mg 3,5 me.$\ell$$^{-1}$ during the reproductive growth period. To examine the suitability of nutrient solution developed in the above experiment, cucumber plants were grown in the substrates supplied with different solutions and concentrations - Yamasaki's nutrient solution(Yamasaki) of 1 S, nutrient solution of Research Station for Greenhouse Vegetable and Floriculture on the Netherlands(PTG) of 1 S, nutrient solution developed in the above experiment(SCU) of 1/2, 1, and 3/2 S. EC and pH in root zone changed little in the all treatments during growing period. As cucumber plants grew, the concentrations of N, P, and K in root zone decreased but Ca concentration increased. Net $CO_2$ assimilation rate of cucumber leaves was high in SCU of 1 and 3/2 S, and Yamasaki of 1 S. Growth of cucumber plants was the lowest in SCU of 1/2 S.
This experiment was designed to optimize the process of manufacturing the soybean cheeses and to elucidate the chemical changes during ripening when the chemical changes during ripening when the milk components and enzyme preparations were added to the raw materials. Conditions for extracting soybean protein such as temperature, duration and amount of water added were determined; various coagulaters were compared by checking the curd texture and yield; starters from S. thermophilus, S. lactis MLB and S. cremoris EB-9 were tested as single- or multi-stain combinations; and the effects of skim milk and/or rennins-both microbial and calf origin-addition upon the process of manufacturing and ripening were studied. The results obtained were as follows. 1. optimal conditions for soybean extraction were found to be: temperature $100^{\circ}C$, duration 10 minutes, and amount of water added 9-fold, as considered the extraction rate of solids and proteins, and curd yield. 2. Sodium gluconate was the most effective among the coagulators tested, and 5% of single-strain starter from S. thermophilus was appered to be adequate inoculum for curd formation. 3. The effects of skim milk and/or rennins addition on the process of manufacturing and ripening of soybean cheeses were: 1) The addition of rennins resulted in fast formation of curd, especially with skim milk it was so. And Hansen rennet extracts brought better results in curd formation than Meito rennet extracts did. 2) No significant effect was observed on the changes in moisture content during ripening, however the levels of moisture contents in the products were higher in case of using Meito rennet extracts. 3) Effect on pH changes during ripening was also not significant in general, while levels of pH were decrease markedly during manufacturing and the initial stage of ripening. 4) The levels of bacterial counts were much higher in case of skim milk addition throughtout the ripening period. In general the numbers were reached to approximately $10^8cells/g$ during manufacturing, then decreased gradually to below $10^2cells/g$ in 8 weeks of ripening. 5) The addition of skim milk and/or rennin resulted in higher ripening index, and skim milk plus Meito rennet extracts was appeared to be best combination for the ripening index.
Several medicinal herbs, which are nontoxic and have been used widely in traditional folk medicine, were extracted and antimicrobial activity of the extracts was investigated against various foodborne pathogens or food poisioning microorganisms. The ethanol extract of Sansa, Hwangryun, Cheukbaek, and Seokchangpo showed strong antimicrobial activities against Gram postive and Gram negative bacteria, whereas those of Sakunja, Sukjihwang and Baekji had little antimicrobial activities on microorganisms tested. Among medicinal herb extracts, ethanol extract of Coptis chinensis Franch (hwangryun) showed the strongest antimicrobial activity. Antimicrobial activity of ethanol extract of Coptis chinensis Franch was not destroyed by heating at $100^{\circ}C$ for 60 min and at $121^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, which is very stable over heat. The pH effect on minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of the extract of Coptis chinensis Franch indicated that MIC was reduced with increasing the pH value of the medium. The inhibitory effect of partially purified substance from the ethanol extract of Coptis chinensis Franch on the growth of Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus was investigated. Growth of those strains occurred at the concentration of $100{\;}{\mu}g/mL$ and were inhibited at $500{\;}{\mu}g/mL$, whereas those strains was completely inactivated in the presence of $1000{\;}{\mu}g/mL$.

The need for rapid on-site monitoring of hydroponic macronutrients has led to the use of ion-selective electrodes, because of their advantages over spectrophotometric methods, including simple methodology, direct measurement of analyte, sensitivity over a wide concentration range, and low cost. Stability and repeatability of response can be a concern when using multiple ion-selective electrodes to measure concentrations in a series of samples because accuracy might be limited by drifts in electrode potential. A computer-based measurement system could improve accuracy and precision because of both consistent control of sample preparation and easy calibration of sensors. Our goal was to investigate the applicability of a cobalt-based electrode used in conjunction with a laboratory-made automated test stand for quantitative determination of ${PO_4}^-$ in hydroponic solution. Six hydroponic solutions were prepared by diluting highly concentrated paprika hydroponicsolution to provide a concentration range of 1 to 300 ppm $PO_4$-P. A calibration curve relating electrode response to phosphate in paprika hydroponic solution titrated to pH 4 with 0.025M KHP was developed based on the Nikolskii-Eisenman equation with a coefficient of determination ($R^2$) of 0.94. The laboratory-made test stand consisting of three cobalt-based electrodes measured phosphate concentrations similar to those obtained with standard laboratory methods (a regression slope of 0.98 with $R^2$ = 0.80). However, the y intercept was relatively high, 30 ppm, probably due to the relatively large amount of variation present among multiple measurements of the same sample. Further studies on the high variation in EMFs obtained with cobalt electrodes during replicate measurements were required for P estimations comparable to those obtained with standard laboratory instruments.
Unpolished rice (UR) is considered to be a healthy alternative to white rice when coping with chronic diseases. In the present study, the fermented slurry of unpolished rice (FSUR) was evaluated with respect to its antimicrobial activities and biochemical characteristics, including the quantities of sugar, total soluble sugar, organic acids, free amino acids, pH, and physiological activity. The antimicrobial efficiency of FSUR was assessed using the paper disc-agar diffusion method. FSUR exhibited strong antimicrobial activity against six pathogenic bacterial strains (Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhimurium, and Yersinia enterocolitica) and two fermentation strains (Gluconacetobacter intermedius and Lodderomyces elongisporus). The antimicrobial activity of FSUR was higher than the commercial antibiotics, carbenicillin ($50{\mu}g/ml$) and tetracycline ($50{\mu}g/ml$) against S. aureus, E. coli, L. monocytogenes, P. aeruginosa, S. typhimurium, Y. enterocolitica, and L. elongisporus. Also FSUR had a high antioxidant activity. The microorganisms were isolated from FSUR using tryptic soy broth and yeast extract-peptone-dextrose agar media. The isolated microorganisms were characterized using physiological and biochemical analyses as well as by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and phylogenic analysis. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that the isolated microorganisms had a high similarity to G. intermedius, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus plantarum, and Acetobacter peroxydans.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of fluoride relasing orthodontic sealant on the shear bond strength of light-and chemical-cured orthodontic rosins, to compare the shear bond strenth with light-and chemical-cured orthodontic resins, and to identify the changes of shear bond strength by rebonding in vitro. The brackets were divided into eight groups. Each group of metal brackets had different bonding mechanisms with adhesives. Group A : Transbond only Group B : Mono-Lok 2 only Group C : Light cured FluoroBond+Transbond Group D : Light cured FluoroBond+Mono-Lok 2 Group E : Transbond only(rebonded) Group F : Nomo-Lok 2 only(rebonded) Group G : Light cured FluoroBond+Transbond(rebonded) Group H : Light cured FluoroBond+Mono-Lok 2(rebonded) 65 extracted human premolars were prepared for bonding and 65 metal brackets for each group were bonded to prepared enamel surfaces of buccal surfaces as the above prescription. 24 hours bonding after, the Instron universal testing machine was used to test the shear bond strength of metal brackets to enamel. After debonding, same kind of metal brackets for each group were rebonded to prepared enamel surfaces of buccal surfaces to test the shear bond strength at the rebonding to enamel. Statistical analysis of the data was carried out Student's t-test ANOVA test, and Scheffe test using $SPSS/PC^+$ The results were as follows : 1. The order of shear bond strength was Group B(11.84MPa), Group A(10.75MPa), Group, D(9.69MPa), and Group C(9.39MPa)in lst bonded groups. 2. The order of shear bond strength was Group E(7.40MPa), Group G(6.48MPa), Group F(5.89MPa), and Group H(5.15MPa) in rebonded groups. 3. The shear bond strength of chemical cured orthodontic rosins had higher than that of light-cured orthodontic resins in all groups, but there was no statistical significance between groups(P>0.05). 4. In rebonded groups, the shear bond strength of light cured orthodontic rosins had higher than that of chemical cured orthodontic resins, but there was no statistical significance between groups(P>0.05). 5. The shear bond strength of all rebonded groups progressively decreased than that of 1st bonded groups, and there was statistical significance between groups(p<0.05, p<0.001).
