  • This study was carried out to investigated optimum mixing ratio of Korean cultivation Salvia miltiorrhiza for production of functional oyster mushroom. Mycerial growth was slow at addition of Salvia miltiorrhiza, and significant difference by increase of Salvia miltiorrhiza. Yields of fruiting body show the highest to 139.5 g/850 ml of medium which are addition 5 g/bottle of Salvia miltiorrhiza but rapid decrease by increase of Salvia miltiorrhiza. Diameter of pileus and thick of stipes were higher at addition Salvia miltiorrhiza than those of the controls. Thick of pileus and length of stipes were the highest at addition 30g, and 20 g and 30 g of Salvia miltiorrhiza. The L value of stipes were the highest at addition 20 g and 50 g of Salvia miltiorrhiza and the L value of pileus were the highest at addition 30 g of Salvia miltiorrhiza, but there was no significant difference in the a-value and the b-value.

  • This study was carried out to investigate effect of NaCl treatment on growth oyster mushroom and Trichoderma spp. on PDA and in rice straws. We also investigated the possibility of oyster mushroom cultivation using rice straw harvested from the reclaimed land having been drained sea water. Mycelial growth of oyster mushroom was increased by treatment of 0.2% NaCl but decreased by treatment of the higher concentration of NaCl. In the case of the mycelial growth on PDA of Trichoderma spp., no change was found in 0.5%~1.0% NaCl, but decreased in the range of 1.0%~3.0% NaCl and drastically decreased at 5.0% NaCl. In the rice straws treated with different concentration of NaCl solution, mycelial growth of oyster mushroom showed almost same result compare to PDA. The spore formation of Trichoderma mould was almost same in both 0% and 0.3% NaCl, decreased in 0.5% and was not found spores in the higher concentration of NaCl. As increasing salt concentration in the rice straws, the NaO contents were increased. The $K_2O$ contents were decreased before and after sterilization. The moisture content of rice straws showed no difference by treatment of 3.0% NaCl but decreased the moisture by treatment of 5.0% NaCl. No pH change was found in the rice straws treated with NaCl. Mushroom yield in the rice straw of reclaimed land was a little higher than that of normal paddy land straw. The duration of primordium formation was not affected by NaCl concentration in rice straws. The yield of fruiting body in 0.3% NaCl treatment was 2,700kg, which was almost same to non-treated plot, but decreased in 0.5% NaCl. EC value of soaking water after submerging rice straw was higher than before, but NaO content was not changed at both condition.

  • 'Mantari' is a new variety of oyster mushroom for bottle culture. It was bred by crossing monokaryons isolated from 'DM11732' and 'Chunchu-2ho'. The optimum temperature for the mycelial growth was $26{\sim}29^{\circ}C$ on PDA medium, and that for the primordia formation and the growth of fruiting body of 'Mantari' on sawdust media was $18^{\circ}C$ and $16^{\circ}C$. It took 32 days to finish spawn running, 4 days to finish primordia formation, and 3 days to finish fruiting body growth in the bottle culture. The fruitcharacteristics: the pileus was round and gray-black in color, and the stipe was long, thin, and light gray in color. The yield per bottle was 179 g/900 ml and was 5% higher than that of the control variety (Chunchu-2ho). • Effects of substrate bed interior environments on mushroom qualities were investigated in oyster mushroom cultivation facilities in which either Reversible Air-Circulation Fans (RACF) blowing air in two directions (upwards and downwards) or customary Convection Fans (CF) with air blowing only upwards were operated throughout the cultivation period. Two days before harvest, the deviation ranges of the bed interior temperature and relative humidity in the facility using RACF were in the ranges of 1.0-1.3℃ and 7.8-9.0% in the first growing cycle, and within 0.7-1.1℃ and 10.0-11.4% in the second cycle. In the facility using CF, the ranges of variation in the indoor environment parameters (5.8-6.4℃ and 21.3-23.1% in the first growing cycle, and 3.4-5.7℃ and 14.6-18.3% in the second growing cycle) were much enlarged compared to those associated with RACF. These results strongly indicate that RACF significantly enhances air uniformity. Some mushroom qualities differed between growing cycles. For instance RACF in the first cycle gave somewhat better qualities than CF, but some qualities, like pileus diameter and stipe length, were slightly lower than those described for CF in the second cycle when the cultivation substrate weakened. The observation that some qualities worsened under RACF conditions, despite better air uniformity during the growing cycle, revealed the possibility that downward wind may exert a non-negligible negative effect on mushroom growth. Therefore in the future, making wind measurements on the interior and exterior of substrate beds is necessary to obtain insights into their influences on mushroom qualities. The RACF operation manual needs to be edited to convey this necessity.

  • Culture conditions for yeast production from the acid hydrolyzate of the 2nd waste composts of oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) were determined. Among the yeast strains tested, Candida quilliermondii JAFM 215, which was culture at $30^{\circ}C$, pH 5.0, showed good culture yield. Yeast production was the highest yield with the medium composition of 0.3% $NH_4Cl$, 0.15% $KH_2PO_4$, 0.02% $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$, and 0.05% $CaCl_2$. Yeast growth was increased at the concentration of 0.001 to 0.01% furfural, but at the higher concentration the yeast growth was inhibited. Utilization rate of sugar was 86.2%, and yield of yeast from sugar was 50.45%. Crude protein of yeast ranged from 50 to 52%.

  • This study was carried out to find optimum condition through sterilization methods for cultivation of Neutaribeosut (Oyster mushroom). 1. Yield of additive culture of pine sawdust, cotton and rice hulls at bagcultivation of Neutaribeosut. was similiar to additive culture of pine sawdust, cotton and pulpe as conventional methods. 2. Yield of Neutaribeosut at low temp. sterilization method as 50 to 6$0^{\circ}C$ and 7days treatment was higher about 18 to 19% than that of high temp. as 121$^{\circ}C$ and 90 minutes treatment. 3. In case of farmercost, low than high temperature sterilization method appeared lowly about 12%. So this method will be of advantage to farmers in both yield and farmercost.

The optimum temperature for the mycelial growth was around $26{\sim}29^{\circ}C$ and for the pinheading and growth of fruit body was around $14{\sim}18^{\circ}C$. In the bag culture, it was required around 20 days at incubation period and 5 days at primordia formation. The fruit body was grown vital and uniform. The yields were 323.3g/kg bag. This variety has high yielding capacity, cultivation stability and the resistance to the bacterial brown blotch disease.

  • 'Gonji-5ho', a new variety of oyster mushroom, for the bag culture, was bred by mating two monokaryons isolated from 'Chiak-3ho'and 'Suhan-1ho'. In the characteristics of fruit body, pilei were thick and gray and stipes were thick, and long, and soft. It was better in elasticity and cohesivness of tissue compared to Suhan-1ho. Compared to other varieties, it was suitable to grow at higher temperature. The range of optimum temperature for the mycelial growth was around 26~29 and that for the pinheading and growth of fruit body was around $18{\sim}20^{\circ}C$. But when it was cultuered in lower than $15^{\circ}C$, growth was not uniform, culture period was longer, and stipes were uneven. In the bag culture, it was required around 18 days in incubation period and 3 days in primordia formation. The fruit body growth was vital and uniform. The yield was 221.4g/1kg bag.
