Effect of Metallic Tungsten Concentration on Resistance Switching Behavior of Sputtered W-doped NbOx Films

  • In this study, we investigated that the resistance switching characteristics of W-doped NbOx films with increasing W doping concentration. The W-doped NbOx based ReRAM devices with a TiN/W-doped NbOx/Pt/Ti/SiO2 were fabricated on Si substrates. The 50 nm thick W-doped NbOx films were deposited by reactive dc magnetron co-sputtering at $400^{\circ}C$ and oxygen partial pressure of 35%. Micro-structure of W-doped NbOx films and atomic concentration were investigated by XRD, TEM and XPS, respectively. The W-doped NbOx films showed set/reset resistance switching behavior at various W doping concentrations. The process voltage of set/reset is decreased and whereas the initial current level is increased with increasing W doping concentration in NbOx films. The change of resistance switching behavior depending on doping concentration was discussed in terms of concentration of metallic tungsten of oxygen of W-doped NbOx.

Optimal oxygen saturation in premature infants

  • There is a delicate balance between too little and too much supplemental oxygen exposure in premature infants. Since underuse and overuse of supplemental oxygen can harm premature infants, oxygen saturation levels must be monitored and kept at less than 95% to prevent reactive oxygen species-related diseases, such as retinopathy of prematurity and bronchopulmonary dysplasia. At the same time, desaturation below 80 to 85% must be avoided to prevent adverse consequences, such as cerebral palsy. It is still unclear what range of oxygen saturation is appropriate for premature infants; however, until the results of further studies are available, a reasonable target for pulse oxygen saturation ($SpO_2$) is 90 to 93% with an intermittent review of the correlation between $SpO_2$ and the partial pressure of arterial oxygen tension ($PaO_2$). Because optimal oxygenation depends on individuals at the bedside making ongoing adjustments, each unit must define an optimal target range and set alarm limits according to their own equipment or conditions. All staff must be aware of these values and adjust the concentration of supplemental oxygen frequently.

Factorial design에 의한 Acetobacter xylinum KJ1의 Bacterial cellulose 생산조건의 최적화

  • Acetobacter xylinum KJ1 efficiently producing bacterial cellulose(BC) in shaking culture was isolated from a rotten grape. The strain was used to investigate optimum operating conditions for increasing BC production and factorial design model was employed for the optimization. The results of experiments were statistically analyzed by SAS program. Reciprocal effects of each factors(carbon source concentration, shaking speeds(rpm), oxygen pressure, and CSL concentration) and culture condition of BC production were examined by getting regression equation of the dependent variable. Comparisons between experimental results and predicted results about BC concentration were done in total 24 experiments by combination of each factors using SAS program, and the correlation coefficients of BC concentration and BC yield were 0.91 and 0.81, respectively. The agitated cultures were performed in various operation conditions of factors which affected considerably to BC production in jar fermentor. The results showed that BC concentration was 11.67g/ L in 80 hours cultivation under the condition of carbon source concentration shaking speeds(rpm) : oxygen pressure: CSL concentration = 4% : 460rpm : 0.28 : 6%. On the other hand BC yield was 0.42g/g in 80 hours cultivation under the condition of carbon source concentration shaking speeds(rpm) : oxygen pressure: CSL concentration = 4% : 564rpm : 0.21 : 2%. The BC production could be enhanced up to more than 65.3% by factorial design. The result of a verifying experiment under the optimal conditions determined by the factorial design to the BC production showed that the model was appropriate by obtaining BC concentration of 11.02g/L in the optimum condition

  • Carbon soot emission from combustion processes, especially from diesel engines, is a subject of growing concern since soot is known to seriously affect human health. Efforts have been made to oxidize soot particles utilizing Non-Thermal Plasma(NTP) techniques. When oxygen is carried into a plasma device, electrons generated by the plasma dissociate the oxygen, resulting in the formation of oxygen atoms. These highly activated atoms, called O radicals, are known as strong oxidizing agent. This paper presents concentration variations of CO and $CO_2$ at the exit of the plasma device, resulting from the soot oxidation by O radicals, with variations of inlet oxygen concentration, gas temperature, and gas flow rate. Based on the data, Arrehenious rate constants of reactions between C(s)+O and C(s)+O+O were proposed.

  • The combustion characteristics of 0.03MW turbulent methane/oxygen diffusion flames have been investigated to give basic informations for designing industrial oxyfuel combustors. NOx reduction has become one of the most determining factors in the combustor design since 3-5% nitrogen is intrinsically included from the current oxygen producing processes. Flame lengths and NOx concentrations were measured by varying flow velocities with and without installing quarls. Flame stabilities are significantly enhanced by oxyfuel combustion in contrast to air-fuel combustion. Flame length decreases with increasing fuel or oxygen velocity because of the enhancement of turbulent mixing. NOx concentration was reduced with increasing flo velocities. This can be attributed to the entrainment of inert product gases into flame decreasing flame temperature. The installation of quarl on the burners rather increased NOx concentration since the quarl blocked the entrainment above the nozzles.

  • A novel technique for determining the oxygen tracer diffusion coefficients in oxides was developed. After the 16O-18O solid-gas exchange reactions between 16O in the oxides and 18O in the ambient gas, Raman spectra of the cross sections of oxide samples were measured in a spatial resolution of 5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. From thus obtained Raman spectra, depth profiles of 18O concentration in the oxide samples were calculated. The oxygen tracer diffusion coefficients and the surface exchange coefficients were determined under the assumptions that samples are semi-infinite slab and that the surface exchange reactionsare not negligible. The oxygen tracer diffusion coefficient of 2.8 mol% Y2O3-containing tetragonal ZrO2 polycrystals, 8 mol% Y2O3-containing ZrO2 polycrystals, and 10 mol% Y2O3-containing cubic ZrO2 single crystals (along the a axis) are as follows.

  • Ru-C nano-composite films were prepared by MOCVD, and their microstructures and their electrode properties for oxygen gas sensors were investigated. Deposited films contained Ru particles of 5-20 nm in diameter dispersed in amorphous C matrix. The AC conductivities associating to the interface charge transfer between Ru-C composite electrode and YSZ electrolyte were 100-1000 times higher than that of conventional paste-Pt electrodes. The emf values of the oxygen gas concentration cell constructed from the nano-composite electrodes and YSZ electrolyte showed the Nernstian theoretical values at low temperatures around 500 K. The response time of the concentration cell was 900 s at 500 K.

Surface Characteristics of Copper Oxide Thin Films with Different Oxygen Ratio

  • Copper oxide thin films were deposited on the p-type Si(100) by r.f. magnetron sputtering as a function of different oxygen concentration. The deposited copper oxide thin films were investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The SEM and SE data show that the thickness of the copper oxide films was in the range of 100-400 nm. AFM images show that the surface morphology was depended on the oxygen ratio. The crystal structure of copper oxide films was changed from metallic copper to copper oxide with increasing oxygen concentration. The oxidation states of Cu 2p and O 1s resulted from XPS were consistent with XRD results.

유가식 생물반응기에서의 용존산소농도 및 비성장속도의 제어 (Control of dissolved Oxygen Concentration and Specific Growth Rate in Fed-batch Fermentation)

  • A novel control method with automatic tuning of PID controller parameters has been developed for efficient regulation of dissolved oxygen concentration in fed-batch fermentations of Escherichia coli. Agitation speed and oxygen partial pressure in the inlet gas stream were chosen to be the manipulated variables. A heuristic reasoning allowed improved tuning decisions from the supervision of control performance indices and it coule obviate the needs for process assumptions or disturbance patterns. The control input consisted of feedback and feedforword parts. The feedback part was determined by PID control and the feedforward part is determined from the feed rate. The proportional gain was updated on-line by a set of heuristics rules based on the supervision of three performance indices. These indices were output error covariance, the average value of output error, and input covariance, which were calculated on-line using a moving window. The integral and derivative time constants were determined from the period of output response. The specific growth rate was maintained at a low level to avoid acetic acid accumulation and thus to achieve a high cell density. The specific growthe rate was estimated from the carbon dioxide evolution rate. In fed-batch fermentation, the simutaneous control of dissolved oxygen concentration (at 0.2; fraction of saturated value) and specific growth rate (at 0.25$hr^{-1}$) was satisfactory for the entire culture period in spite of the changes in the feed rate and the switching of control input.

소성 및 산소농도 조건에 대한 Mn-Cu-TiO2 촉매의 탈질 특성 (NOx removal of Mn-Cu-TiO2 catalyst for the calcination and oxygen concentration conditions)

  • 본 Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ Civil 촉매를 이용하여 질소산화물을 제거하는 $NH_3$-SCR 공정에서 소성조건 및 산소농도에 대한 영향을 연구하였다. 소성된 촉매시료를 사용하여 $H_2$-TPR 시스템에서 반응온도에 따른 수소전환특성을 조사하였으며, 소성조건에 대한 비표면적변화도 측정하였다. 실험결과 적합한 소성온도는 약 $300^{\circ}C$이며, 소성온도가 $500^{\circ}C$이상일 경우 Mn, Cu 성분의 저온활성이 크게 감소함을 알 수 있었다. SCR반응에서 기상산소는 중요한 반응변수이며 반응에 적합한 농도는 약 8vol%이었다.
