  • An experimental study of oxygen enriched double inversed diffusion flame was conducted to understand the flame characteristics and radiation heat transfer. The infrared radiation meter was used to measure of various combination of fuel, air and pure oxygen. The results show that oxygen enriched double inversed diffusion flame is very effective to increase of thermal radiation and proper addition of pure oxygen in air flow can intensify thermal radiation of flame. And it can be found that oxygen enriched double inversed diffusion flame could give benefits of cost effective and very high energy.

  • Combustion using pure oxygen instead of air is an energy saving technology that can increase thermal efficiency by the improvement of burning rate and ultra high temperature flame, being used on the industrial spot. But information about it is not so enough yet. Flame figure, temperature distribution and emission concentration were measured with oxygen excess ratio and swirl number in a turbulent diffusion flame to investigate the combustion characteristics using pure oxygen. The results showed that flame figure became different as long as oxygen excess ratio varied and that concentration of NO and CO increased suddenly around ${\lambda}$=1.5.

  • Dense oxygen ionic conducting materials can be used for oxygen separation membranes at high temperatures. However, they show relatively low permeation flux because of their large resistances. To reduce resistances and improve the oxygen permeation flux, thin dense yttria-stabilized-zirconia (YSZ)/Pd composite dual-phase membranes were fabricated by a new approach that combines the reservoir method and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). A thin porous YSZ layer was coated on a porous alumina support by dip-coating the YSZ suspension. A continuous Pd phase was formed inside pores of the YSZ layer by the reservoir method. The residual pores of the YSZ/Pd layer were plugged with yttria/zirconia by CVD to ensure the gas tightness of the membranes. The oxygen permeation fluxes through these composite membrane were 2.0$\times$10$^{-8}$ mol/cm$^2$.s and 4.8$\times$10$^{-8}$ mol/cm$^2$.s at 105$0^{\circ}C$ when air and oxygen were used as the permeate gases, respectively. These oxygen permeation values are about 1 order of magnitude higher than those of pure YSZ membranes prepared under similar conditions.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the oxygen transfer characteristics of an ejector aeration system. In order to evaluate the oxygen transfer performance of the ejector aeration system, a comparative experiment was conducted on a conventional blower aeration system. The effect of entrained air flow rate and aerating water temperature on the oxygen transfer efficiency was investigated. The dissolved oxygen concentration increased with increasing entrained air flow rate, but decreased with increasing aerating water temperature for two aeration systems. The volumetric mass transfer coefficient increased with increasing entrained air flow rate and with increasing aerating water temperature for both aeration systems. The average mass transfer coefficient for the ejector aeration system was about 20% and 42% higher than that of the blower aeration system within the experimental range of entrained air flow rates and aerating water temperatures.

  • Fermentation parameters were estimated by use of a vent gas analyzer coupled to a computer data acquisition system in cultivation of Phellinus linteus WI-001, pro-ducer of polysaccharides known to have potent anticancer activities. Oxygen uptake rate(OUR), a critical indicator of the cells activities, was calculated by applying oxygen mass balance. In addition, by dividing the oxygen uptake rate hy the total oxygen consumed, on-line estimation of the cells specific growth rate was successfully done. It was also possible to estimate cell concentration directly bt use of oxygen-cell yield($Y_{x/o}$ ) which was obtained based on a correlation between cell growth and total oxygen consumed.

  • Entrained coal gasification tests with Datong coal were performed to assess the influence of oxygen/coal ration and pressure. When gasification condition in oxygen/coal ratio has changed from 0.5 to 1.0, optimal gasification condition from low pressure runs was oxygen/coal ratio of approximately 0.9 where CO was produced about 40% and H, about 20%. Under the pressure condition of 12-14 atmospheres, optimal oxygen/coal ratio value was in the region of 0.6 where CO was produced about 55% and H2about 25%. From these results, it was found that the oxygen/ coal ratio for the maximum production of CO and H, was decreasing with the increase in gasifier pressure and also, with increasing oxygen content, carbon conversion was increased. For the Chinese Datong coal, cold gas efficiency was in the range of 40-80%.

  • The effect of oxygen vacancy and Sn donor on carrier density for Indium Tin oxide (ITO) and Indium oxide (InO) films has been investigated. Hot-cathode Penning discharge sputtering (HC-PDS) in the mixed gasses of argon and oxygen was applied to fabricate the ITO and InO films. Density of oxygen vacancy was estimated using a high-energy ion beam technique. The electrical properties of the films such as resistivity, carrier density and mobility were estimated by Van der Pauw method. The doping efficiency of oxygen vacancy could be obtained from the relationship between oxygen vacancy and carrier density. The doping efficiency of oxygen vacancy for ITO films resulted in a quite small value. Comparing the doping efficiencies of ITO and InO films, the effect of Sn donor on carrier density was also discussed.

  • Oxygen has been used extensively in various industries for many years. Despite earlier successful attempts to use oxygen in industrial combustion furnaces, its full theoretical researches have only recently begun to be realized. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of oxygen enriched combustion. This paper analyzes the characteristics of oxygen enriched combustion, and deals with the experimental investigation of the flame temperature and NOx concentration in exhaust gas. The flame temperature, concentration of exhaust gas were measured and flame configurations were photographed according to the variation of oxygen concentrations in oxidizer.

  • Purpose : This study is to understand the reactive oxygen which is expected to be a causative factor of aging condition including dementia, atherosclerosis, even cancer. Methods : The reactive oxygen is generated usually when people do very hard exercise or is under severe stressful situation or in unhealthy environment and as a protective reaction to reactive oxygen, human body releases antioxidant enzyme systems like superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, glutathione peroxidase (GPX), glutathion-S-transferase (GST) and non-enzymetic antioxidant systems like glutathione, ascorbate, $\beta$-carotene, vitimin E. Results : Nowadays, we are getting more interested in the generation of reactive oxygen especially in the area of physical education, food and nutrition, alternative medicine etc. Conclusion : The study of reactive oxygen in patients with musculoskeletal disease is also required and among various physical therapeutic approaches, the method of general coordinative manipulation is considered more necessary.

  • Processed meatball products were packaged in a passive package without oxygen scavenger as 1 control and 3 active packages of which have PP-based oxygen scavenger master batch materials (OSMB) of 40, 80, and 100%(w/w) in the middle layer and stored at 23 and $30^{\circ}C$ up to 9 months. Quality changes of packaged products were evaluated by measuring the oxygen concentration of the headspace in containers, thiobarbituric acid (TBA), color, and flavor. The oxygen concentration of the package having 100% OSMB was lower than those of 40 and 80%. The color changes and TBA values of the meat ball in the package containing 100% OSMB were the least among the treatments. Using principal component analysis (PCA), the control showed more flavor change than the packages containing oxygen scavenger. As a result, all active packages could extend the shelf life of the meatball products compared with that of the passive package.
