A Real-time Interactive Shadow Avatar with Facial Emotions (감정 표현이 가능한 실시간 반응형 그림자 아바타)

  • In this paper, we propose a Real-time Interactive Shadow Avatar(RISA) which can express facial emotions changing as response of user's gestures. The avatar's shape is a virtual Shadow constructed from the real-time sampled picture of user's shape. Several predefined facial animations overlap on the face area of the virtual Shadow, according to the types of hand gestures. We use the background subtraction method to separate the virtual Shadow, and a simplified region-based tracking method is adopted for tracking hand positions and detecting hand gestures. In order to express smooth change of emotions, we use a refined morphing method which uses many more frames in contrast with traditional dynamic emoticons. RISA can be directly applied to the area of interface media arts and we expect the detecting scheme of RISA would be utilized as an alternative media interface for DMB and camera phones which need simple input devices, in the near future.

A Real-time Copper Foil Inspection System using Multi-thread (다중 스레드를 이용한 실시간 동판 검사 시스템)

  • The copper foil surface inspection system is necessary for the factory automation and product quality. The developed system is composed of the high speed line scan camera, the image capture board and the processing computer. For the system resource utilization and real-time processing, multi-threaded architecture is introduced. There are one image capture thread, 2 or more defect detection threads, and one defect communication thread. To process the high-speed input image data, the I/O overlap is used through the double buffering. The defect is first detected by the predetermined threshold. To cope with the light irregularity, the compensation process is applied. After defect detection, defect type is classified with the defect width, eigenvalue ratio of the defect covariance matrix and gray level of defect. In experiment, for high-speed input image data, real-time processing is possible with multi -threaded architecture, and the 89.4% of the total 141 defects correctly classified.

Korean National Income Based on a Chain Index: 1953~2010 (연쇄가중법에 의한 한국의 국민소득: 1953~2010)

  • Korea's national income statistics have been compiled by the Bank of Korea since 1953. However, there is a break in the time series. The current time series (1970 onward) is based on the '1993 SNA (System of National Accounts)' suggested by the UN, and the previous time series (1953~1970) was based on the '1953 SNA'. The difference between the previous and current time series is 4.8% in 1970 when the two series overlap. The difference is even greater in terms of comparisons across industries. In addition, it has now become even more difficult to connect the current and the previous time series because, in 2009, the Bank of Korea introduced a chain weighted method for calculating the current time series (1970 onward). Under the chain weighted method, the time series underwent substantial modification; for instance, the economic growth rate during 1970~2005 is 0.9%p higher than the rate under the general method. This paper applies chain weighted values and the '1993 SNA' to the previous time series (1953~1970) by utilizing various national account manuals published by the UN and previous Korean input-output tables in order to calculate a long term time series from 1953 to 2010 based on the same criteria as the current time series (1970 onward). In the revised time series, it appears that 1953 GDP at current basic prices is 3.5% higher and the growth rate for the period of 1953~1970 is 1.5%p higher each year than under the previous time series. Under the revised time series the size of the Korean economy as of 2010 is 50-fold bigger than that of 1953. In terms of industries, manufacturing and SOC show significant expansion whereas the extent of that of the service industry is relatively small.

Non-Representation Expressed in Contemporary Fashion Design (현대패션디자인에 나타난 비표상성)

  • Non-representation creates difference and change that can be used as a creative design method that satisfies contradictory requirements for similarity and differentiation. This study drew upon the characteristics of the concept of non-representation expressed in contemporary art and architecture, in which Gilles Deleuze's philosophical thinking was reflected, and analyzed the non-representation depicted in contemporary fashion. The non-representation expressed in contemporary art and architecture is as follows. Non-representation of delaying becoming focuses on reverting to preexisting objects and redefining traditional meaning, thereby delaying the representation of latent meaning. Non-representation of non-becoming removes existing values and typical forms and expresses amorphousness. Non-representation of becoming by repetition or reiteration realizes the difference caused by the passage of time by repeating or overlapping shapes. Non-representation of becoming expresses the transformation of space by flowing through time rather than by actual movement. Non-representation in contemporary fashion shows the following expression characteristics. First, the non-representation of deferring becoming deconstructs the traditional values and forms of clothing and expresses designs by displacement or juxtaposition. Second, the non-representation of non-becoming is expressed concepts unrelated to the body and focus upon amorphous objects that do not become concretized forms. Third, generative non-representation by repetition and overlap expresses the possibility of change by overlapping clothing items or details expressed by repeating segmented objects. Fourth, generative non-representation by movement reproduces the meaning of space and time by moving the shape of the clothing or visually changing the surface of the material of clothing. As a result of the study, the non-representation shown in contemporary fashion aims for versatility to conform to social changes. This study provides new insight into the fashion design method by increasing the understanding of the cocnept of non-representation and showing its potential.

A Study on the Chronotope of Mobile Game (모바일 게임의 크로노토프 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the temporal and spatial characteristics of mobile games through Mikhail Bakhtin's chronotope concept in order to examine the changes of mobile games and gaming. Based on chronotope, a concept that refers to the inner relation between time and space reproduced in the novel, I examined the inner relation between the space - time experience in the mobile game platform and the reconstruction of the mobile game text. The mobile game builds the present-here world based on the player's will while superimposing the act of playing through the mixed platform of existence based on the player with the time and space of everyday life. The chronotope of a mobile game with players as platforms is created in the current space of now-here rather than connecting to the virtual world. In this paper, I review the role of chronotope reproduction in mobile games, focusing on role-playing games and location based games. In the mobile role-playing game, an unhistorical chronotope appears in which the player has a loose sense of distance around the automatic combat system, while the narrative and relational experience is weakened. In a location-based game, a chronotope of player-driven generation that generates amusing meanings through the overlap of the virtual world and the real world appears.

A Pattern Recognition Method of Fatigue Crack Growth on Metal using Acoustic Emission (음향방출을 이용한 금속의 피로 균열성장 패턴인식 기법)

  • Acoustic emission-based techniques are being used for the nondestructive inspection of mechanical systems used in service. For reliable fault monitoring related to the crack growth, it is important to identify the dynamical characteristics as well as transient crack-related signals. Widely used methods which are based on physical phenomena of the three damage stages for detecting the crack growth have a problem that crack-related acoustic emission activities overlap in time, therefore it is insufficient to estimate the exact crack growth time. The proposed pattern recognition method uses the dynamical characteristics of acoustic emission as inputs for minimizing false alarms and miss alarms and performs the temporal clustering to estimate the crack growth time accurately. Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective for practical use because of its robustness to changes of acoustic emission caused by changes of pressure levels.

  • As of this moment, we are tracing people who are closed contact with Covid-19 patients and trying to block the spread of Covid-19 through diagnostic tests. However, the incubation period of the confirmed case is two weeks, and it takes a lot of human resources, time, and money to trace the routes of the confirmed case. In particular, as the number of confirmed cases have been increasing, the cost for finding closed contacts and blocking them in advance exponentially have almost reached the limitation of the budget. In finding closed contacts, all citizens must record an electronic access list every time they visit an amenities such as a store or a restaurant. This is likely the invasion of the privacy of personal location information. In this study, we designed a system that keeps one's location in real time, it will download the movement information of the confirmed case which is collected by KDCA, and it will notify the user when there is an overlap. Moreover, then guide for diagnostic test in advance will be used. The proposed method can solve the difficulty of recording in an electronic access list when visiting a store, and it can block infringement of privacy without providing personal information from KDCA.

Time Domain Multiple-channel Signal Processing Method for Converting the Variable Frequency Band (가변 주파수 변환을 위한 시간 영역 다중채널 신호처리 알고리즘)

  • The algorithm of multiple channel signal processing requires the flexibility of variable frequency band, efficient allocation of transmission power, and flexible frequency band reallocation to satisfy various service types which requires different transmission rates and frequency band. This paper proposes an improved multiple channel signal processing for converting the frequency band of multiple carrier signals efficiently using a window function and DFT in the time domain. In contrast to the previous algorithm of multiple-channel signal processing performing band-pass signal processing in the frequency domain, the proposed algorithm is a method of block signal processing using a window function in the time domain. In addition, the complexity of proposed algorithm of the window function is lower than that of the previous algorithm performing signal processing in the frequency domain, and it performs the frequency band transform efficiently. The computer simulation result shows that the perfect reconstruction of output signal and the flexible frequency band reallocation is performed efficiently by the proposed algorithm.

Research on the Performance Optimization of HR-Net for Spinal Region Segmentation in Whole Spine X-ray Images (Whole Spine X-ray 영상에서 척추 영역 분할을 위한 HR-Net 성능 최적화에 관한 연구)

  • This study enhances AI algorithms for extracting spinal regions from Whole Spine X-rays, aiming for higher accuracy while minimizing learning and detection times. Whole Spine X-rays, critical for diagnosing conditions such as scoliosis and kyphosis, necessitate precise differentiation of spinal contours. The conventional manual methodology encounters challenge due to the overlap of anatomical structures, prompting the integration of AI to overcome these limitations and enhance diagnostic precision. In this study, 1204 AP and 500 LAT Whole Spine X-ray images were meticulously labeled, spanning the third cervical to the fifth lumbar vertebrae. We based our efforts on the HR-Net algorithm, which exhibited the highest accuracy, and proceeded to simplify its network architecture and enhance the block structure for optimization. The optimized HR-Net algorithm demonstrates an improvement, increasing accuracy by 2.98% for the AP dataset and 1.59% for the LAT dataset compared to its original formulation. Additionally, the modification resulted in a substantial reduction in learning time by 70.06% for AP images and 68.43% for LAT images, along with a decrease in detection time by 47.18% for AP and 43.07% for LAT images. The time taken per image for detection was also reduced by 47.09% for AP and 43.07% for LAT images. We suggest that the application of the proposed HR-Net in this study can lead to more accurate and efficient extraction of spinal regions in Whole Spine X-ray images. This can become a crucial tool for medical professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal-related conditions, and it will serve as a foundation for future research aimed at further improving the accuracy and speed of spinal region segmentation.

FPGA-based Implementation of Fast Histogram Equalization for Image Enhancement (영상 품질 개선을 위한 FPGA 기반 고속 히스토그램 평활화 회로 구현)

  • Histogram equalization is the most frequently used algorithm for image enhancement. Its hardware implementation significantly outperforms in time its software version. The overall performance of FPGA-based implementation of histogram equalization can be improved by applying pipelining in the design and by exploiting the multipliers and a lot of SRAM blocks which are embedded in recent FPGAs. This work proposes how to implement a fast histogram equalization circuit for 8-bit gray level images. The proposed design contains a FIFO to perform equalization on an image while the histogram for next image is being calculated. Because of some overlap in time for histogram equalization, embedded multipliers and pipelined design, the proposed design can perform histogram equalization on a pixel nearly at a clock. And its dual parallel version outperforms in time almost two times over the original one.
