A Study on Development of Algorithm for Seam Tracking by Considering Weld Defects in Horizontal Fillet Welding (수평필릿용접에서 용접결함을 고려한 용접선 자동추적 알고리즘개발에 관한 연구)

  • Among various welding parameters, the welding current which is inversely proportional to the tip-to-workpiece distance in GMAW is an essential parameter to monitor the GMAW process of horizontal fillet joints. For the case of weld defect such as overlap in horizontal fillet welding, therefore, the signal processing for process monitoring or automatic seam tracking should be modified by considering the weld pool surface geometry including the corresponding weld defect. In other words, the adequate signal processing algorithm is indispensible to improve the performance of the arc sensor. However, arc sensor algorithm already developed usually focus on weld seam tracing but do not considering the weld qualities. In this paper, various experiments were carried out to investigate the tendencies of the weld defects when weaving motion is added, and the experimental method based on 2$^n$ factorial design was proposed for deriving the mathematical model between the leg length and the various welding conditions. Moreover, a signal processing method based on the artificial neural network(Adaptive Resonance Theory) was proposed far discriminating the current signal of sound weld beads from that of weld beads with overlap. Finally, the algorithm for weld seam tracking combined with the mathematical modeling and the signal processing method was carried out to track the weld line in conjunction with the improvement of the weld qualities. The reliability of the proposed algorithms were evaluated through various experiments, which showed that the proposed algorithms could be effectively used for arc welding automation.

  • In this paper, a novel codebook design method for data modem over voice channel is presented. Proposed method searches the symbols which have the maximum probability distribution overlap in the symbol space and minimizes the overlap to improve the symbol error rate via minimax optimization. We present numerical simulations and an example implementation. We also give the results of the experiment tests.

  • The most representative design used in clinical trials is randomization, which is used to accurately estimate the treatment effect. However, comparison between the treatment group and the control group in an observational study without randomization is biased due to various unadjusted differences, such as characteristics between patients. Propensity score weighting is a widely used method to address these problems and to minimize bias by adjusting those confounding and assess treatment effects. Inverse probability weighting, the most popular method, assigns weights that are proportional to the inverse of the conditional probability of receiving a specific treatment assignment, given observed covariates. However, this method is often suffered by extreme propensity scores, resulting in biased estimates and excessive variance. Several alternative methods including trimming, overlap weights, and matching weights have been proposed to mitigate these issues. In this paper, we conduct a simulation study to compare performance of various propensity score weighting methods under diverse situation, such as limited overlap, misspecified propensity score, and treatment contrary to prediction. From the simulation results overlap weights and matching weights consistently outperform inverse probability weighting and trimming in terms of bias, root mean squared error and coverage probability.

  • Recently, several studies have been carried on knowledge flow of science, technology, industry to establish STI policy. Still it is in need of studies on relationship of science-industry although there have been studied only in aspect of science-technology relationship or technology-industry relationship. This paper's purpose is to propose method to measure knowledge flow among science, technology, and industry by means of patent citation by USPTO. After gathering knowledge flow data between science and technology through mapping citing patent and cited pater, it gets knowledge flows data between technology-industry by using OTC (OECD Technology Concordance), technology-industry mapping program. Based on these knowledge flow data, it examines knowledge flow science to industry by applying overlap function that is a network link weight function.

Audio /Speech Codec Using Variable Delay MDCT/IMDCT (가변 지연 MDCT/IMDCT를 이용한 오디오/음성 코덱)

  • A high-quality audio/voice codec using the MDCT/IMDCT process can perfectly restore the current frame through an overlap-add process with the previous frame. In the overlap-add process, an algorithm delay equal to the frame length occurs. In this paper, we propose a MDCT/IMDCT process that reduces algorithm delay by using a variable phase shift in MDCT/IMDCT process. In this paper, a low-delay audio/speech codec was proposed by applying the low delay MDCT/IMDCT algorithm to the ITU-T standard codec G.729.1 codec. The algorithm delay in the MDCT/IMDCT process can be reduced from 20 ms to 1.25 ms. The performance of the decoded output signal of the audio/speech codec to which low-delay MDCT/IMDCT is applied is evaluated through the PESQ test, which is an objective quality test method. Despite of the reduction in transmission delay, it was confirmed that there is no difference in sound quality from the conventional method.

  • The method of calculating the excess Helmholtz free energy from the averaged effective acceptance ratio for the Lennard-Jones fluid and the inverse twelve fluid has been slightly modified and applied to the two-center-Lennard-Jones liquid. The excess Helmholtz free energy is calculated directly from the average of the modified effective acceptance ratio through a single Metropolis Monte Carlo simulation. Therefore this method does not need any reference system. The results of the present method were satisfactory compared with those of the perturbation theories and the overlap ratio method.

  • This paper presents a computational method that identifies an exact set of optimal overlap rates between critical activities to meet job site specific needs by using rework cost-slope. The procedures to compute the exact solution are provided in peudocode algorithm. The method is coded into Exact Concurrent Construction Scheduling system that allows practitioners to make more informed decision in accordance with the site-specific condition involved in the overlapping of critical activities. Test cases verify the validity of the computational method and the usability of the system.

  • Operator technique has been applied for calculation of the quadrupole moment matrix-elements. Master formulas for the quadrupole moment matrix elements for pairs of Slater type, orbitals are derived, one using the expansion method for spherical harmonics and the other the transformed of the quadrupole moment matrix elements into overlap integrals for Mulliken. The numerical values of the quadrupole moment matrix elements evaluated by two methods are in agreement with each other and the calculated quadrupole moment for the ground state of HCl molecule is also in agreement with that of Nesbet.

  • In this paper, a novel Bearingless Switched Reluctance Motor(BLSRM) with the shoe rotor pole in order to minimize the torque ripple and the suspension force ripple at an overlap position is proposed. For reduction the torque ripple and the suspension force ripple at an overlap position, the fringing flux is used for the main flux. This configuration of the rotor pole results in more average torque with high suspension force. In addition, this paper is compared the transient characteristics using the inductance look-up table. The torque, radial force and flux density are analyzed by finite element method.

  • In case of outputting the image with color printer, image is occurred color distortion by characteristics of paper, effect by overlap between neighbor dots and the mechanical characteristics if printer. Color calibration is needed to reduce this color distrotion. To color calibration, we select the color sample in printer color gamut. The accuracy of color calibration is determined by the number of sample, distribution, and calibration method. Generally, color space is selected the color sample dividing equal interval. In this case, the range of gamut of printed color patches is reduced due to the effect of inks overlap. Therefore, error is occurred when color transformation relatively. In this paper, we have the color sampling based on equi-visual perception and then reproduce the color using the Neural-Network and interpolation by LUT.
