In this paper a neural network controller for achieving maximum power tracking as well as output voltage regulation, for a wind energy conversion system(WECS) employing a permanent magnet synchronous generator, is proposed. The permanent magnet generator (PMG) supplies a dc load via a bridge rectifier and two buck-boost converters. Adjusting the switching frequency of the first buck-boost converter achieves maximum power tracking. Adjusting the switching frequency of the second buck-boost converter allows output voltage regulation. The on-times of the switching devices of the two converters are supplied by the developed neural network(NN). The effect of sudden changes in wind speed ,and/or in reference voltage on the performance of the NN controller are explored. Simulation results showed the possibility of achieving maximum power tracking and output voltage regulation simultaneously with the developed neural network controller. The results proved also the fast response and robustness of the proposed control system.
In this paper, two plant models, of which one is newly developed and the other one is the conventional one, of the focus servo system of DVD drive are presented and a two-degree-of freedom controller consisted of Inverse dynamics feedforward and LQG/LTR feedback controller is designed. The newly developed plant model is used to design the feedforward controller and the conventional model is used for the design of feedback controller. The output of newly developed model is the displacement of objective lens and the output of conventional model is the focus error of the DVD focus servo system. The displacement of the objective lens is estimated by the dynamics model of the DVD focus servo system. The disturbance rejection performance of the two-degree-of freedom controller is compared with that of an LQG/LTR one.
The electromagnetic levitation(EMS) system is one of the well-known nonlinear system because of its nonlinearity and several control techniques have been proposed. We propose an ${\epsilon}$-scaling partial feedback controller for the ball position control of the EMS system. The key feature of our proposed controller is the use of the scaling factor ${\epsilon}$ which provides a function of controller gain tuning along with robustness. In this paper, we show the stability analysis of our proposed controller and the convergence analysis of the state observer in terms of ${\epsilon}$-scaling factor. In addition, the experimental results show the validity of the proposed controller and improved control performance over the conventional PID controller.

In this paper, a methodology for designing a controller based on inverse dynamics for speed control of DC motors is presented. The proposed controller consists of a prefilter, the inverse dynamic model of a system and the PI controller. The prefilter prevents high frequency effects from the inverse dynamic model. The model of the system in characterized by a nonlinear equation with coulomb friction. The PI controller regulates the error between the set-point and the system output which may be caused by modeling error, variations of parameters and disturbances. The output which may be caused by modeling error, variations of parameters and disturbances. The parameters of the model and the PI controller are adjusted offlinely by a genetic algorithm. An experimental work on a DC motor system is carried out to illustrate the performance of the proposed controller.
This paper presents a new method on controller design of brushless dc motors. In such drives the current ripples are generated by motor inductance in stator windings and the back EMF. To suppress the current ripples the current controller is generally used. To minimize the size and the cost of the drives it is desirable to control motors without the current controller and the current sensing circuits. To estimate the motor CUlTent it is modeled by a neural network that is contigured as an output-error dynamic system. The identified model is essentially a one step ahead prediction structure in which past inputs and outputs are used to calculate the current output. Using the model, a state feedback controller to compensate the effects of disturbance has been designed. The controller is implemented by a 16-bit microprocessor and the effectiveness of the proposed control method is verified through experiments.
This paper presents the regulation of the output voltage and inductor currents in a Single Ended Primary Inductor Converter (SEPIC), operating in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) using a sliding mode controller. Owing to the time varying nature of the SEPIC converter, designing a feedback controller is a challenging task. In order to improve the dynamic performance of the SEPIC, a Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) is developed. The developed SMC is designed by using a state space average model. The performance of the developed controller with the SEPIC converter is validated at different working conditions through Matlab simulations. It is also compared with the performance while using a PI controller. The results show that the designed controller gives very good output voltage regulation under different operating conditions such as a varying input voltage, changes in the load and component variations. A 48V, 46W experimental setup for has been developed in an analog platform to validate the performance of the proposed SMC.

An optimal controller, e.g. LQG controller, may not be realistic in the sense that the required control power may not be achieved by existing actuators, and the measured output is not satisfactory. To be realistic, the controller should meet such constraints as sensor or actuator limitation, performance limit, etc. In this paper, the lnput/Output Variance Constrained (IOVC) control problem will be considered from the viewpoint of mathematical programming. A dual version shall be developed to solve the IOVC control problem, whose objective is to find a stabilizing control law attaining a minimum value of a quadratic cost function subject to the inequality constraint on each input and output variance for a stabilizable and detectable plant. One approach to the constrained optimization problem is to use the Kuhn-Tucker necessary conditions for the optimality and to seek an optimal point by an iterative algorithm. However, since the algorithm uses only the necessary conditions, the convergent point may not be optimal solution. Our algorithm will guarantee a sufficiency.
A linear input/output data-based predictive control with integral action is developed. The control input is obtained directly from the input/output data in a single step. However, the state estimation in subspace identification gives a biased estimate and there is model mismatch when the controller is applied to a nonlinear process. To overcome such difficulties, we add integral action to a linear input/output data-based predictive controller by augmenting the integrated white noise disturbance model and use each of best linear unbiased estimation(BLUE) filter and Kalman filter as a stochastic observer for the unmeasured disturbance. When applied to a continuous styrene polymerization reactor the proposed controller demonstrates.

This paper considers a low-order dynamic output feedback controller design problem. Since the proposed control law inherently has a low-pass filter property, it can alleviate the mal-effects of the sensor noise without additional filter designs. Frequency domain analysis shows the characteristics of the proposed control law against measurement noise. The effectiveness of the proposed control law is illustrated by numerical simulations with a rotary inverted pendulum and a convey-crane. Using only one integrator the proposed control law has the advantage to the stabilization problem with sensor noise as well as it can successfully replace the measurements of derivative terms in a state feedback control law.
