  • Three-dimensional multiple-input multiple-output (3D MIMO) and large-scale MIMO are two promising technologies for upcoming high data rate wireless communications, since the inter-user interference can be reduced by exploiting antenna vertical gain and degree of freedom, respectively. In this paper, we derive the achievable sum rate of 3D MIMO systems employing zero-forcing (ZF) receivers, accounting for log-normal shadowing fading, path-loss and antenna gain. In particular, we consider the prevalent log-normal model and propose a novel closed-form lower bound on the achievable sum rate exploiting elevation features. Using the lower bound as a starting point, we pursue the "large-system" analysis and derive a closed-form expression when the number of antennas grows large for fixed average transmit power and fixed total transmit power schemes. We further model a high-building with several floors. Due to the floor height, different floors correspond to different elevation angles. Therefore, the asymptotic achievable sum rate performances for each floor and the whole building considering the elevation features are analyzed and the effects of tilt angle and user distribution for both horizontal and vertical dimensions are discussed. Finally, the relationship between the achievable sum rate and the number of users is investigated and the optimal number of users to maximize the sum rate performance is determined.

  • This paper proposes an improved vascular pattern extraction algorithm for person verification applications. The proposed direction-based vascular pattern extraction (DBVPE) algorithm is based on the directional information of vascular patterns. It applies two different filters to the input images: row vascular pattern extraction filter (RVPEF) for effective extraction of the abscissa vascular patterns and column vascular pattern extraction filter (CVPEF) for effective extraction of the ordinate vascular patterns. We use the combined output of both filters to obtain the final hand vascular patterns. Unlike the conventional hand vascular pattern extraction algorithm, the directional extraction approach prevents loss of the vascular pattern connectivity. To validate the DBVPE algorithm, we used a prototype system with a DSP processor. The prototype system shows approximately a three-times better false acceptance rate (FAR) than the conventional single filter algorithm.

  • A practical flood forecasting model(FFM) is suggested. The output of the model is the results which the initial condition of meteorological parameters and soil moisture are projected on the future. The physically based station model for rainfall forecasting(RF) and the storage function model for runoff prediction(RP) are adopted respectively. Input variables for FFM are air temperature, pressure, and dew-point temperature at the ground level and the flow at the rising limb(FRL). The constant parameters for FFM are average of optimum values which the past storm events have. Also loss rate of rainfall can predicted by FRL.

  • Critical cryptography applications require the production of an unpredictable and unbiased stream of binary data derived from a fundamental noise mechanism. In this paper, we proposed a RNG with Gaussian noise using filter algorithm. The proposed scheme is designed to reduce the statistical property of the biased bit stream in the output of a RNG. Experimental show that we analysis the loss rate according to window size and propose optimum window size.

  • A new diversity technique is proposed for multi-user single-input single-output (SISO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) uplink system. Each user transmit a symbol using frequency band of all users that are active in the uplink. In addition, a receiver detect each signal using maximum likelihood (ML) method. Simulation results show that the proposed technique improves a diversity order without an additional bandwidth and a loss of data rate.

  • Purpose: Slow manual harvesting of rain-fed chickpeas cultivated in fallow fields in developing countries have encouraged the design of a mechanical harvester. Methods: A tractor-pulled harvester was built, in which a modified stripper header detached pods from an anchored plant and a chain conveyor transferred material. The stripper harvester was redesigned to use: 1) the maneuverability of tractor-mounted frames, 2) the adaptability of floating headers, and 3) the flexibility of pneumatic conveyors. Results: A mobile vacuum conveyor, which was an innovator open system, was designed for the dilute phase transferring mode for both grain and material other than grain. A centrifugal fan transferred harvested material to a cyclone separator that settled harvested material in a grain tank 1 m high. The machine at the spot work rate of $0.42ha{\cdot}h^{-1}$ harvested chickpea pods equal to the output of 16.6 farm laborers. Conclusion: The low cost and reasonable projected purchase price are the advantages of the concept. Additionally, the shattering loss reduction confirms the feasibility of the prototype chickpea harvester for commercialization.

  • Underwater acoustic(UWA) communication is one of the most difficult field because of several factors such as multipath propagation, high temporal and spatial variability of channel conditions. Therefore, it is important to model and analyze the characteristics of underwater acoustic channel such as multipath propagation, transmission loss, reverberation, and ambient noise. In this paper, UWA communication channel is modeled with a ray tracing method and applied to image transmission. Quadrature phase shift keying(QPSK) and multichannel decision feedback equalizer(DFE) are utilized as phase-coherent modulation method and equalization technique, respectively. The objective is to improve the performance of vertical sensor array than that of single sensor in the viewpoint of bit error rate(BER), constellation output, and received image quality.

  • We have developed a dual control algorithm by means of innovations approach and established the stability of dual by introducing the pole-placement method suggested by Berger on the non-dual control. The dual controller realizing this algorithm decreases control loss sharply when compared with that of a non-dual controller, and shows the characteristics of suppressing the output deviation in transient state effectively. The total control energy and the accumulated square misdistance of this dual controller are shown to be 1-10% and 0.1-10% of those of CE control, respectively. Consequently this controller solves the non-minimum phase problem encountered when discretizing the system equation, and can be used to overcome the uncertainty of system effectively by adjusting the learning rate of the controller.

  • In this paper, we extend the derivation of the iterative soft-output Viterbi algorithm (SOVA) for partial response (PR) channels, and modify its decoding process such that it works consistently for arbitrary high code rates, e.g., rate 64/65. We show that the modified SOVA always outperforms the conventional SOVA that appears in the literature with a significant difference for high code rates. It also offers a significant cut down in the trace-back computations. We further examine its performance for parallel and serial concatenated codes on a precoded Class IC partial response (PR4) channel. Code rates of the form $\frac{k_0}{k_0+1}$($k_0$ = 4, 8, and 64) are considered. Our simulations indicate that the loss suffered by the modified SOVA, relative to the APP algorithm, is consistent for all code rates and is at most 1.2 dB for parallel concatenations and at most 1.6 dB for serial concatenations at $P_b$ = $10^{-5}$.

  • We propose a traffic flow control scheme of B-NT with temporary cell buffering and selective cell discarding to prevent congestion state of the network nodes in B-ISDN systems to reduce or suppress output cell strams towards T interface. We define the states of the network nodes as normal, pre-congestion, and congestion. In a pre-congestion state, the loss-sensitive traffic is temporarily buffered to slow down the rate of the output traffic streams. In a congestion state, the delay-sensitive traffic is selectively discarded to suppress the output traffic streams as possible in addition to the cell buffering. We model the input cell streams and the states of the network nodes with Interrupted Bernoulli Process and 3-state Markov chain to analyze the performance of the proposed scheme in the B-NT system. The appropriate size of the cell buffer is explored by means of simulation and the influence on the performance of the proposed scheme by the network node state is discussed. As results, more than 2,00 cells of buffer size is needed for the control of medium of lower than the medium, degree of congestion occurrence in the network node while the control of high degree of congestion occurrence is nearly impossible.
