  • The goal of postprocessing in automatic speech recognition is to improve recognition performance by utterance verification at the output of recognition stage. It is focused on the effective rejection of out-of vocabulary words based on the confidence score of hypothesized candidate word. We present two methods for computing confidence scores. Both methods are based on the distance between each observation vector and the representative code vector, which is defined by the most likely code vector at each state. While the first method employs simple time normalization, the second one uses a normalization technique based on the concept of on-line garbage mode[1]. According to the speaker independent isolated words recognition experiment with discrete density HMM, the second method outperforms both the first one and conventional likelihood ratio scoring method[2].

  • Recently, a variety of confidence measures for utterance verification has been studied to improve speech recognition performance by rejecting out-of-vocabulary inputs. Most of the conventional confidence measures for utterance verification are based primarily on hypothesis testing or an approximated posterior probability, and their performances depend on the robustness of an alternative hypothesis or the prior probability. We introduce a novel confidence measure called a search confusion rate (SCR), which does not require an alternative hypothesis or the approximation of posterior probability. Our confusion-based approach shows better performance in additive noise-corrupted speech as well as in clean speech.

  • Objective technology development has been carried out aiming performance improvement of the stabilized gun-pointing system for Type-4 tank. The full nonlinear simulation programs with gun bending modes and nonlinearities were developed to estimate, analyze and design the driving and stabilization system, and validated through the comparisons between simulations and test results of the existing Type-1 tank. The prototype is designed, fabricated, tested and evaluated on the test range as well as in the laboratory and followed by development and operational tests. The performance test results on stationary and on-the-move conditions are turned out to be superior to those of the advanced tanks developed in foreign countries.

  • AlN thin film for SAW filter application was deposited on (100) silicon wafers by reactive magnetron sputtering method. The structural characteristics were dependent on the deposition conditions such as sputtering pressure, RF power, substrate temperature, and nitrogen partial pressure. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Electron Probe MicroAnalyzer (EPMA) and Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) have been used to find out structural properties and preferred orientation of AlN thin films. Insertion loss of SAW devices was 28.51 dB and out of band rejection was about 24 dB.

  • In this paper a two-stage maximum-likelihood (ML) detection structure for group detection in DS/CDMA systems is presented. The first stage of the receiver is a linear filter, aimed at suppressing the effect of the unwanted (i.e., out-of-grout) users' signals, while the second stage is a non-linear block, implementing a ML detection rule on the set of desired users signals. As to the linear stage, we consider both the decorrelating and the minimum mean square error approaches. Interestingly, the proposed detection structure turns out to be a generalization of Varanasi's group detector, to which it reduces when the system is synchronous, the signatures are linerly independent and the first stage of the receiver is a decorrelator. The issue of blind adaptive receiver implementation is also considered, and implementations of the proposed receiver based on the LMS algorithm, the RLS algorithm and subspace-tracking algorithms are presented. These adaptive receivers do not rely on any knowledge on the out-of group users' signals, and are thus particularly suited for rejection of out-of-cell interference in the base station. Simulation results confirm that the proposed structure achieves very satisfactory performance in comparison with previously derived receivers, as well as that the proposed blind adaptive algorithms achieve satisfactory performance.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the basic principles for the examination of documents in terms of the basic duty to examine the documents, the time allowed to the banks to examine the documents, linkage among the documents, the originality of documents and their issuers, and the rejection formula of documents. Further this author would look at the changes of particular transport document including bill of lading, charter-party bill of lading and so on. From the seller's perspective, the changes of the principles and individual documents under UCP600 are the most important in the sense that they affect the criteria against which the payment is made. The major changes include the omission of the phrase "with reasonable care", in terms of the basic examination principles, substitute the phrase "five banking days following the day of presentation" for the phrase "reasonable time, not to exceed seven banking days following the days of receipt of documents", introduce the new wording about the linkage between the documents tendered, and make clear the meaning of the originality of documents as well as the rejection formula. For transport documents, even though dealing with bill of lading, charter-party bill of lading, transport document covering at least two different modes of transport, freight-forwarder bill of lading and freight collect transport documents, this paper focuses on the "transhipment" of bill of lading and the definition of charter-party bill of lading. Thus, UCP has been changed several times to reflect the new banking customs and practice. It, however, would not answer every questions which users and banks will raise. These questions may be best answered in the particular underlying contract. The UCP are necessary but not a sufficient instrument for the smooth operation of an international trade transaction. The rules are now out: it remains to be seen what the players do with it.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a program which aims at providing a better understanding of parenthood, establishing a desirable value of being a parent and preparing for being a good father positively affecting children, and determine effects of the program on unmarried men who are in the so-called stage of 'not belonged youth'. The program consisted of 5 sessions titled 'My father, 'I will be a father, too', 'Being a good father I', 'Being a good father II' and 'I will be a respectable father'. 7 unmarried men surveyed here were asked to participate in the program held at B church located in Busan from Oct. 3 to Nov. 7, 2004, with 1 session a week and 120 minutes per session based. Before and after the program, tests were carried out with the father acceptance-rejection scale and the scale of confidence in father's role'. For each of the sessions, a process evaluation was performed. Results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, the pre- and post-tests with the father acceptance-rejection scale showed some changed recognition that father's attitude of child raising would be more acceptable and unrejectable. This indicates that the program made some achievements in relation to understanding and reestablishing relations with father. Second, significant differences were found in confidence in father's role between before and after the program. Especially, anxiety about father's role as a sub-area of such confidence was most considerably reduced. In conclusion, such objectives of the program as removing vague anxiety about father's role, establishing a desirable view of fatherhood and improving confidence about being a father proved to be achievable through getting skills of child understanding with the concept of developmental perspective and narrative therapy based.

  • This paper proposes the design method based on the Composite Right/Left-Handed(CRLH) structure to miniaturize and enhance the rejection performance in the stopband of the bandpass filter for a VHF band($169{\sim}211\;MHz$). For realization, we used the 0-th order resonance point of the CRLH and the simple theory of Inverter as coupling. The proposed technique is validated by the performance predictions and experiments, (Insertion loss <2 dB, $S_{11}$< -15 dB, suppression of up to the 3rd harmonic) and it is found out that the suggested method enables the size reduction of around 60 % from the conventional filters such as the parallel edge coupled type.

  • The purpose of this paper is whether or not the in-situ restoration of the reverse osmosis (RO) membranes which its membrane function is lost is possible. The damaged RO membranes are double coated through the salting-out method by the poly(styrene sulfonic acid) sodium salt as the cationic exchange polymer and the polyethyleneimine as the anionic exchange polymer and also conducted the opposite order of the coating materials. And according to the concentration, time and ionic strength, the flux and rejection are measured for the coated membranes. Then the best coating condition is to apply for the RO membrane module of the household water purifier to know the possibility of the in-situ restoration for the commercial module. When the condition of the PEI 30,000 ppm (IS = 0.1)/PSSA 20,000 ppm (IS = 0.7) is applied, the rejection was enhance from 69% for the damaged module to 86% (90% for the pristine module).
