The purpose of this study was to investigate families' responses and attitudes and the experiences of Korean LGBT individuals after revealing their sexual identity and sexual orientation and to determine how families' attitudes affected the mental health of these individuals. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were performed with 12 male and female LGBT participants, ranging from 19-30 years of age, who resided in Seoul and metropolitan areas, and reported coming out to or being outed by their families. One-to-one interviews were carried out using semi-structured questions, and the data from the interviews were analyzed using consensual qualitative research (CQR). Most of the families had very negative responses and attitudes to the participants coming out and exhibited rejection or avoidant attitudes; only a few of the families responded with receptive attitudes. As a result, the LGBT participants reacted with friction and coping behaviors, such as persuasion, participation in professional counseling, abandonment or avoidance, and running away from home. Most of the effects of the families' attitudes on the participants were negative psychological effects, such as anger, sadness, a sense of alienation, depression, anxiety, fear, trauma, helplessness, lowered self-esteem, alcohol dependence, and suicidal ideation and attempt, while receptive attitudes provided a sense of stability. For all participants, they reported that they were more likely to be hurt by their families' negative attitudes than by social attitudes. This study is significant because it provides framework for specifying families' attitudes and LGBT individuals' experiences after coming out in Korean society. It also outlines LGBT individuals' coping behaviors, psychological difficulties, and the process of coming out and provides suggestions for individuals to overcome. The results are expected to help counselors create practical strategies to better understand LGBT individuals and the psychological difficulties they may experience and provide proper interventions while counseling both the individual and the family.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analysis the manuscripts rejected for publication in the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration during the last three years six months (2012~2015 Jun). Methods: Seventy eight rejected manuscripts were analyzed focusing on manuscripts characteristics, such as rejection rates, year of submission, occupation of first author and corresponding author, number of authors, funding, thesis or dissertation, article type, study participants, number of reviews prior to rejection, and 3rd reviewer. Also reviewers' quantitative evaluation scores and subjective comments were analyzed. Reviewers' subjective comments were analyzed using content analysis methodology. Results: The mean rate for manuscript rejection was 28.9% and for quantitative research, qualitative research, and review papers the quantitative evaluation scores were $2.54{\pm}0.70$, $2.39{\pm}0.69$, and $2.39{\pm}0.69$ out of 5 points, respectively. The most frequent subjective comment on rejected manuscripts was 'lack of rationale for research need'. Conclusion: In this study the characteristics and the reasons for rejecting manuscripts were identified. These findings can be used in developing effective strategies for researchers, reviewers and editors to improve the quality of research and research reviews of nursing administration research.
Background: Minor histocompatibility HY antigen, as a transplantation antigen, has been known to cause graft rejection in MHC (major histocompatibility complex) matched donor-recipient. The aim of our study is to investigate the role of male antigen (HY) disparity on MHC matched pancreatic islet transplantation and to examine the mechanism of the immune reaction. Methods: Pancreatic islets were isolated and purified by collagen digestion followed by Ficoll gradient. The isolated islets of male C57BL6/J were transplanted underneath the kidney capsule of syngeneic female mice rendered diabetic with streptozotocine. Blood glucose was monitored for the rejection of engrafted islets. After certain period of time, tail to flank skin transplantation was performed either on mouse transplanted with HY mismatched islets or on sham treated mouse. The rejection was monitored by scoring gross pathology of the engrafted skin. Results: HY mismatched islets survived more than 300 days in 14 out of 15 mice. The acceptance of second party graft (male B6 islets) and the rejection of third party graft (male BALB/c islets) in these mice suggested the tolerance to islets with HY disparity. B6 Skin with HY disparity was rejected on day $25{\pm}7$. However, HY mismatched skin transplanted on the mice tolerated to HY mismatched islets survived more than 240 days. Tetramer staining in these mice indicated the CTL recognizing MHC Db/Uty was not deleted or anergized. Conclusion: The islet transplantation across HY disparity induced tolerance to HY antigen in C57BL6 mouse, which in turn induced tolerance to HY mismatched skin, which otherwise would be rejected within 25 days. The MHC tetramer staining suggested the underlying mechanisms would not be clonal deletion or anergy.
Studies were carried out on the selective removal of inorganic salts such as NaCl and $Na_2SO_4$ from dye solution, using counter diffusion-reverse osmosis and nanofiltration, respectivey. For the dye solution used in the experiments, 1 to 30% of salts were removed by counter diffusion while the loss of dye molecules was less than 0.3%. The separation factors by one pass operation were 10-500 according to ionic species. In five successive operations, removals of anion($Cl^-$) increased but those of cation($Na^+$) decreased due to the Donnan effect. Effects of feed flow rate on removal efficiencies of various ions were also observed at constant flow rate of stripping water. Reverse osmosis of desalted dye solution by counter diffusion was conducted to prepare highly concentrated liquid dyes. The rejection efficiency of dye molecules was greater than 99%. For the rejection efficiency of chloride ion, experimental values were compared with theoretical ones based on solution-diffusion model. Two stage diafiltration was performed in nanofiltration. The rejection efficiency of chloride ion was continuously decreased due to the Donnan dialysis and even negative rejection was observed. The Donnan effect was more pronounced in the second diafiltration.
Reverse osmosis concentration for cephalosproin C was studied using a polyamide composite membrane, FT-30 in spiral wound type with high solute rejection. The experiments were carried out in the aqueous solution of cephalosporin C for water flux, solute rejection and mass transfer coefficient under applied pressure of $4{\sim}20kg/cm^2$, feed concentration of 100~1000 mg/L and feed velocity of 2.8 and 5.6 L/min at room temperature. The effect of operating pressure on the separation of cephalosporin C showed that permeate flux increased with increasing operation pressure. These results are consistent with those predicted by Kedem-Katchalsky model. Solute rejection was nearly 1. The increase of feed concentration caused the reduction of cephalosporin C rejection, which was higher at low concentration than at high concentration, but degree of reduction was small.
A new procedure to produce poly(vinylidene fluoride)/boron nitride hybrid membrane is presented for application in membrane distillation (MD) process. The influence of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) incorporation on the performance of the polymeric membranes is studied through the present investigation. For this aim, h-BN nanopowders were successfully synthesized using the simple chemical vapor deposition (CVD) route and subsequent solvent treatments. The resulting h-BN nanosheets were blended with poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) solution. Then, the prepared composite solution was subjected to phase inversion process to obtain PVDF/h-BN hybrid membranes. Various examinations such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), wettability, permeation flux, mechanical strength and liquid entry pressure (LEP) measurements are performed to evaluate the prepared membrane. Moreover, Air gap membrane distillation (AGMD) experiments were carried out to investigate the salt rejection performance and the durability of membranes. The results show that our hybrid PVDF/h-BN membrane presents higher water permeation flux (${\sim}18kg/m^2h$) compared to pristine PVDF membrane. In addition, the experimental data confirms that the prepared nanocomposite membrane is hydrophobic (water contact angle: ${\sim}103^{\circ}$), has a porous skin layer (>85%), as well competitive fouling resistance and operational durability. Furthermore, the total salt rejection efficiency was obtained for PVDF/h-BN membrane. The results prove that the novel PVDF/h-BN membrane can be easily synthesized and applied in MD process for salt rejection purposes.
For the practical isolated word recognition system, the ability to reject the out-of -vocabulary(OOV) is required. In this paper, we present a rejection method which uses the clustered phoneme modeling combined with postprocessing by likelihood ratio scoring. Our baseline speech recognition system was based on the whole-word continuous HMM. And 6 clustered phoneme models were generated using statistical method from the 45 context independent phoneme models, which were trained using the phonetically balanced speech database. The test of the rejection performance for speaker independent isolated words recogntion task on the 22 section names shows that our method is superior to the conventional postprocessing method, performing the rejection according to the likelihood difference between the first and second candidates. Furthermore, this clustered phoneme models do not require retraining for the other isolated word recognition system with different vocabulary sets.

With the rapid increase in seawater desalination, the importance of boron rejection is rising. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of hydrophilic compounds on surface modification to maximize water flux and increase boron rejection. First, polyamide active layer was fabricated by interfacial polymerization of polysulfone ultrafiltration membrane with M-phenylenediamine (MPD) and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) to obtain Control polyamide membrane. Next, D-gluconic acid (DGCA) and D-gluconic acid sodium salt (DGCA-Na) were synthesized with glutaraldehyde (GA) and hydrochloric acid (HCl) by modifying the surface of Control polyamide membrane. XPS analysis was carried out for the surface analysis of the synthesized membrane, and it was confirmed that the reaction of surface with DGCA and DGCA-Na compounds was performed. Also, FE-SEM and AFM analysis were performed for morphology measurement, and polyamide active layer formation and surface roughness were confirmed. In the case of water flux, the membrane fabricated by the surface modification had a value of 10 GFD or less. However, the boron rejection of the membranes synthesized with DGCA and DGCA-Na compounds were 94.38% and 94.64%, respectively, which were 12.03 %p and 12.29 %p larger than the Control polyamide membrane, respectively.

Recently , it has been popular for family use to sell a watermelon by the piece such as a half or a quarter. Therefore, it has been necessary to detect and sort out hollow or overripened watermelons before they are shipped. Previously, inspection and rejection of hollow or overripened watermelons were carried out by skilled inspectors with their experience and intuition based on the traditional slapping method. In recent years many inspectors have became older and are going to retire. Thus automatic quality measuring devices have to be developed. There are many reports on the measurement of internal quality for watermelons with non-destructive methods. However, there is no online device to detect and measure both hollow and ripeness of watermelons until now. We have developed the model MWA-9002 online device to detect hollow and measuring the ripeness of watermelons by acoustic impulse. The developed of this devices has enables accurate distinction and rejection at the same level of the skilled inspectors, and also has saved labor. Nowadays nine automatic watermelon sorting and packing facilities applied this device have installed in Japan.
A robust controller for a 6 DOF magnetically levitated fine manipulator is presented. The proposed controller consists of following two parts : a model reference controller (MRC) and a H$_{\infty}$ controller (HIC). First, the MRC stabilizes the motion of the manipulator. Then, the motion of the manipulator follows that of the reference model. Second, the HIC minimizes errors generated from the MRC due to noise and disturbance since the HIC is a kind of robust controller. The experiments of position control and tracking control are carried out by use of the proposed controller under the conditions of free disturbances and forced disturbances. Also, the experiments using PID controller are carried out under the same conditions. The results from above two controllers are compared to investigate the control performances. As the results, it is observed that the proposed controller has similar position accuracy but better tracking performances comparing to the PID controller as well as good disturbance rejection effect due to the robust characteristics of the controller. In conclusion, it is verified that the proposed controller has the simple control structure, the good tracking performances and good disturbance rejection effect due to the robust characteristics of the controller..
