  • In this paper, macro diversity coding methods are proposed to efficiently transmit broadcast packet data over mobile cellular networks based on OFDM. In the method, cells are divided into multiple cell groups which transmit one of two orthogonal branches in a transmit diversity code. Furthermore, a coded packet is partitioned into the subblocks for which different cell group combinations are assigned to transmit two different branches. The methods extend the cell coverage at the same transmit power due to the transmit diversity of each symbol and coding diversity obtained through different fading statistics over the subblocks.

  • In this paper, we propose a new code grouping interference cancellation(IC) receiver for multirate wideband code division multiple access(WCDMA) system based on orthogonal variable spreading factor(OVSF) code. The users are assigned different lengths of OVSF codes as a spreading code according to their data rates and divide the active users having same representative code split into a group for effective cancellation. The code grouping IC receiver performs cancellation between the groups first and cancellation within group. This proposed IC receiver can cancel the interferences using desired user's code information and then desired signals are detected. The results show that the large improvement in performance can be attained by groupwise IC scheme and we can make the effective systems compare to conventional ones.

  • This paper presents inter-cell cooperation methods with two transmit antennas for broadcast services in a coded OFDM cellular system. In the method, cells are divided into multiple cell groups and a coded packet is partitioned into the subparts. Then, a different cell group and antenna combination is assigned to each subpart for transmission of two orthogonal branches of the diversity code. For the method, we derive the bound on the pairwise error probability to predict the coded performance and verify the performance gain of the proposed method through the simulation using turbo code and analytically derived bound.

  • Rumen cannulation is a surgical technique used to collect rumen contents from ruminants. However, rumen cannulation surgery may potentially impact the composition of the rumen microbiota. This study aimed to examine the longitudinal alterations in the rumen microbiota composition of Hanwoo steers after cannulation surgery. In this study, eight Hanwoo steers were used; four steers underwent rumen cannulation surgery (cannulation group), while the remaining four were left intact (control group). Rumen samples were collected from all eight steers using the stomach tubing method on the day before surgery (day 0) and on postoperative days 1, 4, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, and 28, resulting in 80 samples (10 timepoints × 8 animals). The microbiota of all 80 samples were analyzed using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing with Quantitative Insights into Microbial Ecology version 2 (QIIME2). There were no significant differences (p > 0.05) in all major phyla and most major genera representing at least 0.5% of total sequences across all 80 samples between the control and cannulation groups on the preoperative and postoperative days. However, while the alpha diversity indices did not differ (p > 0.05) between the two groups on the preoperative day, they significantly differed (p < 0.05) between the two groups on the postoperative days. Further, the overall microbial distribution based on both unweighted and weighted principal coordinate analysis plots significantly differed (p < 0.05) between the two groups on both the preoperative and postoperative days. Orthogonal polynomial contrasts indicated that major genera and microbial diversity in the cannulation group decreased following surgery but returned to their initial states by postoperative day 28. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that rumen cannulation surgery affects some major taxa and microbial diversity, suggesting that the rumen cannulation method can alter the composition of rumen microbiota in Hanwoo steers.

  • Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) has attracted much attention as one of next generation broadcasting services. For the commercialization of UHD broadcasting service, standardization groups including the DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) and the ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) have decided to adopt the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) for signal transmission. However, when the carrier frequency is not properly synchronized at the receiver, inter-symbol interference (ISI) and inter-carrier interference (ICI) may occur. In order to avoid performance degradation resulting from ISI or ICI, receivers should synchronize the carrier frequency by using preambles and pilot symbols. However, there only few published literature dealing with the frequency offset estimation methods regarding the next generation terrestrial broadcasting. In this respect, this paper proposes a method to estimate timing and fractional frequency offset for the ATSC 3.0 system by using a preamble bootstrap symbol. The proposed detector can detect the fractional frequency offset by adding a complex conjugate product on the conventional estimator where only timing offset can be estimated.

  • In this paper, we analyze the spectral efficiency of multicarrier-code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) scheme. First, we derive a generalized formula for the spectral efficiency according to the number of subcarriers involved in, code division multiplexing and the number of codes used (i.e., loading factor), under a given set of channel coefficients. Also, we derive a generalized formula for spectral efficiency of various reduced-complexity systems that divide the full sets of subcarriers into several groups of subcarriers for code division multiplexing. Then, through these derivations, we establish an inter-relationship between the frequency selectivity and diversity order according to the number of multipaths. From the results, we choose the smallest code length while maximizing the diversity effect, provide an optimum subcarrier allocation strategy, and finally suggest a system structure for capacity-maximizing under the smallest code length. Through numerical analyses under simulated environments, we analyze the properties of spectral efficiency of various systems with reduced complexity and choose a major contributing factors to system design and a better system design methodology. Finally, we compare the spectral efficiency of the MC-CDMA scheme and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme to make a relationship between both schemes.

  • In this paper, we propose a grouping technique for the SDD(Synchronous Digital Duplexing) based on OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access). The SDD has advantages of increasing data efficiency and flexibility of resource since SDD can transmit uplink signals and downlink signals simultaneously by using mutual time information and mutual channel information, obtained during mutual ranging process. However, the SDD has a disadvantage of requiring additional CS to maintain orthogonality of OFDMA symbols when the sum of mutual time difference and mutual channel length between AP(access point) and SS(subscriber station) or among SSs are larger than CP length. In order to minimize the length of CS for the case of requiring additional CS in SDD, we proposes a grouping technique which controls transmit timing and receive timing of AP and SS in a cell by classifying them into groups. Performances of the proposed grouping technique are evaluated by computer simulation.

  • In wireless access systems, there has been much interest in enhancing the performance of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing OFDM) in a frequency selective fading channel. If the channel is static and is perfectly known to both the transmitter and the receiver, the water-filling technique with adaptive modulation is known to be optimal. However, for OFDM systems, this requires intensive traffic overheads for reporting channel side information on all subcarriers to the transmitter In this paper, we propose an adaptive modulation and coding scheme for bit-interleaved coded OFDM (BIC-OFDM) for downlink packet transmissions with reduced feedback information. To minimize the feedback information, we employ a rate adaptation method based on the OFDM symbol rather than on each subcarrier. To illustrate the performance gap between the optimal water-filling and the proposed scheme, we will compare cutoff rates for both schemes. It is shown that the loss is less than 2dB while the proposed scheme significantly reduces the feedback payloads. Also, the OFDM system in multiuser environment with subcarrier grouping is considered. It is shown that by exploiting multiuser diversity the throughput of the proposed scheme approaches the channel outage capacity as the number of users and the number of subcarrier groups increase.

  • Zearalenone (ZEN), a mycotoxin produced by Fusarium in food and feed, causes serious damage to the health of humans and livestock. Therefore, we compared the metabolomic profiles in the liver, serum, and urine of piglets fed a ZEN-contaminated diet using proton nuclear magnetic resonance ($^1H-NMR$) spectroscopy. The spectra from the three different samples, treated with ZEN concentrations of 0.8 mg/kg for 4 weeks, were aligned and identified using MATLAB. The aligned data were subjected to discriminating analysis using multivariate statistical analysis and a web server for metabolite set enrichment analysis. The ZEN-exposed groups were almost separated in the three different samples. Metabolic analysis showed that 28, 29, and 20 metabolites were profiled in the liver, serum, and urine, respectively. The discriminating analysis showed that the alanine, arginine, choline, and glucose concentrations were increased in the liver. Phenylalanine and tyrosine metabolites showed high concentrations in serum, whereas valine showed a low concentration. In addition, the formate levels were increased in the ZEN-treated urine. For the integrated analysis, glucose, lactate, taurine, glycine, alanine, glutamate, glutamine, and creatine from orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) were potential compounds for the discriminating analysis. In conclusion, our findings suggest that potential biomarker compounds can provide a better understanding on how ZEN contaminated feed in swine affects the liver, serum, and urine.

  • This study is to classify the somatotypes of middle-aged women by many critera and figure out he characteristics of each somatotypes. The subjects are 614 middle-aged women between 35 and 59 years old and the research is based on anthropometric and photometric measurement by photographing their body parts. The results are as follows; 1. The result of factor analysis indicated that 11 factors were extracted through factor analysis and orthogonal rotation by the method of varimax and those factors comprised 85.71 percent of total variance. 2. As the result of cluster analysis the group of the middle-aged women is classified as 6 types. Type 1 is short, fat, H type in front and lean-back type on the side. Type 2 is standard in height and weight. Type 3 is standard height, fat, long upper body, bend-forward type and protrude of the hip on the side. Type 4 is tall, thin, short upper body, having clearly protrude of the back and hip and lean-back type on the side. Type 5 is neither short nor tall, slim, X type in front and I type on the side. Type 6 is tall, thin and B type on the side. 3. As the result of observing the mutual corresponding relation between these 6 groups and age/Rohrers Index, the somatotype of the middle-aged women is divided at the age of 45. Accordingly when it comes to progress the study of the middle-aged women in the future, we will have to observe the characteristics for dividing the first half and the second half of age of 45.
