  • To date, we have made inferences on the behavior and mind of humans and animals from the perspective of humans, or for the sake of familiarity, vertebrates. The book, "Other Minds; The Octopus, The Sea, and The Deep Origins of Consciousness" by Peter Godfrey-Smith makes us realize how erroneous preconceived notions could be, and presents a novel perspective on the results of evolution. Throughout this book, readers will learn about the characteristics of the nervous system, behavior, and habits of cephalopods, which include octopuses. Through this book, readers will gain a new perspective on the embodiment, minds, nervous systems, consciousness, and sociality of humans and animals. Furthermore, the book will provide the imaginary experience of swimming in "Octopolis" inside the ocean with the author.

  • Little research on sensory study has been conducted from a marketing perspective and most of sensory studies have been done from a science perspective. Thus, this study examined wine sensory perceptions in the consumers' minds, which is how wine consumers associate grape variety Shiraz/ Syrah by the three different region of origins with specific sensory images. Total 234 questionnaires were collected from online wine community members at restaurants in Korea. The main results show that the most two shared sensory images of Shiraz/ Syrah were 'Dry' and 'Fruity' across the three region of origins. For Barossa Shiraz, the unique images were mainly found in Aroma image category such as 'Chocolate', 'Prune', whereas for Rhone Syrah, the unique images were mainly revealed in Overall image category e.g. 'Deep', 'Fascinating'. Additionally, this study confirmed that Maipo Valley is not recognizable region of origin of Shiraz/ Syrah. This study employed a free choice, Pick Any and conducted correspondence analysis to find out the degree of associations of sensory images and each region of origin.

  • Sungrazing comets, known for their proximity to the Sun, are traditionally classified into broad groups like Kreutz, Marsden, Kracht, Meyer, and non-group comets. While existing methods successfully categorize these groups, finer distinctions within the Kreutz subgroup remain a challenge. In this study, we introduce an automated classification technique using the densitybased spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN) algorithm to categorize sungrazing comets. Our method extends traditional classifications by finely categorizing the Kreutz subgroup into four distinct subgroups based on a comprehensive range of orbital parameters, providing critical insights into the origins and dynamics of these comets. Corroborative analyses validate the accuracy and effectiveness of our method, offering a more efficient framework for understanding the categorization of sungrazing comets.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the characteristics of dissolved organics based on their origins, which were divided into two categories. The first group consisted of river, lake and secondary sewage treatment effluent, which were chosen as representative of their origins. The second group were artificial samples which were made of AHA(Aldrich humic acids) and WHA(Wako humic acids). Physicochemical characteristics, biological degradability and THMEP(trihalomethane formation potential) of the samples were analysed based on the AMWD(apparent molecular weight distribution). Large portion of dissolved organic carbon(DOC) in the river and lake samples was comprised of LMW(low molecular weight), which that of AHA and WHA was HMW(high molecular weight). The DOC of the lake was evenly distributed in the all range of molecular weight. The river, lake and secondary treated effluent have lower ultraviolet(UV) absorbance at 254nm, and have a higher amount of humic acids. Higher absorbance of humic acids means that aliphatic bond and benzenoid type components that absorb UV light were contained in these kind of humic acids. It was expected that lake sample was the most biodegradable in the different samples investigated, and in order of secondary sewage treatment effluent, river, WHA and AHA based on the result of determination of specific ultraviolet absorbance(SUVA). Biodegradability showed similar result except for AHA, while dissolved organics in the range of LMW decreased during the biodegradability test, and on the contrary those of HMW increased. Production of the SMPs(soluble micobial products) was observed during humicfication of dissolved organics and the SMPs were higher production of the SMPs. THM formation was high in the samples containing HMW and similar tendency was shown in the THMEP(trihalomethane formation potential), except for WHA.
