A Study on Fractal Image Coding (프랙털 영상 부호화에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose a fast fractal image coding algorithm to shorten long time to take on fractal image encoding. For its performance evaluation, the algorithm compares with other traditional fractal coding methods. In the traditional fractal image coding methods, an original image is contracted by a factor in order to make the corresponding image to be compared with. Then, the whole area of the contracted image is searched in order to find the fixed point of contractive transformation of the original image corresponding to the contracted image. It needs a lot of searching time on encoding. However, the proposed algorithm considerably reduces encoding time by using scaling method and limited search area method. On comparison of the proposed algorithm with Jacquin's method, the proposed algorithm is dozens of times as fast as that of Jacquin's method on encoding time with a little degradation of the decoded image quality and a little increase of the compression rate. Therefore, it is found that the proposed algorithm largely improves the performance in the aspect of encoding time when compared with other fractal image coding methods.

Comparison of several criteria for ordering independent components (독립성분의 순서화 방법 비교)

  • Independent component analysis is a multivariate approach to separate mixed signals into original signals. It is the most widely used method of blind source separation technique. ICA uses linear transformations such as principal component analysis and factor analysis, but differs in that ICA requires statistical independence and non-Gaussian assumptions of original signals. PCA have a natural ordering based on cumulative proportion of explained variance; howerver, ICA algorithms cannot identify the unique optimal ordering of the components. It is meaningful to set order because major components can be used for further analysis such as clustering and low-dimensional graphs. In this paper, we compare the performance of several criteria to determine the order of the components. Kurtosis, absolute value of kurtosis, negentropy, Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistic and sum of squared coefficients are considered. The criteria are evaluated by their ability to classify known groups. Two types of data are analyzed for illustration.

Spatially Adaptive Denoising Using Statistical Activity of Wavelet Coefficients (웨이블릿 계수의 통계적 활동성을 이용한 공간 적응 잡음 제거)

  • It is very important to construct statistical model in order to exactly estimate the signal variance from a noisy image. In order to estimate variance, information of neighboring region is used generally. The size of neighbor region is varied according to the regional characteristics of image. More accurate estimation of edge variance is due to smaller region of neighbor, on the other hands, larger region of neighbor is used to estimate the variance of flat region. By using estimated variance of original image, in general, Wiener filter is constructed, and it is applied to the noisy image. In this paper, we propose a new method for determining the range of neighbors to estimate the variance in wavelet domain. Firstly, a significance map is constructed using the parent-child relationship of wavelet domain. Based on the number of the significant wavelet coefficients, the range of neighbors is determined and then the variance of the original signal is estimated using ML(maximum likelihood method. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields better results than conventional methods for image denoising.

Removing Baseline Drift from ECG Signal Using Smoothing Spline and Morphology Operation (평활화 스플라인 연산과 형태학 연산을 이용한 기저선 변동 잡음 제거)

  • Low frequency noise components causes the baseline drift in the ECG signals. In this paper, a morphological operation and smoothing spline technique are used for ECG signal processing in order to accomplish baseline correction. Removing the baseline drift from ECG signal using morphology operation, the feature of original signal may be distorted. To resolve this distortion problem, we applied a smoothing spline operation after morphology operation. In order to compare with existing morphology operation method for baseline correction, we apply proposed method to ECG data in MIT/BIH database. Compared to other existing method, our proposed method achieved low data distortion on the original signal.

Comparison Study of the Performance of CNN Models with Multi-view Image Set on the Classification of Ship Hull Blocks (다시점 영상 집합을 활용한 선체 블록 분류를 위한 CNN 모델 성능 비교 연구)

  • It is important to identify the location of ship hull blocks with exact block identification number when scheduling the shipbuilding process. The wrong information on the location and identification number of some hull block can cause low productivity by spending time to find where the exact hull block is. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to equip the system to track the location of the blocks and to identify the identification numbers of the blocks automatically. There were a lot of researches of location tracking system for the hull blocks on the stockyard. However there has been no research to identify the hull blocks on the stockyard. This study compares the performance of 5 Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models with multi-view image set on the classification of the hull blocks to identify the blocks on the stockyard. The CNN models are open algorithms of ImageNet Large-Scale Visual Recognition Competition (ILSVRC). Four scaled hull block models are used to acquire the images of ship hull blocks. Learning and transfer learning of the CNN models with original training data and augmented data of the original training data were done. 20 tests and predictions in consideration of five CNN models and four cases of training conditions are performed. In order to compare the classification performance of the CNN models, accuracy and average F1-Score from confusion matrix are adopted as the performance measures. As a result of the comparison, Resnet-152v2 model shows the highest accuracy and average F1-Score with full block prediction image set and with cropped block prediction image set.

A Design of Noise Reduction Circuit for A radio Telephonic System (무선전화 시스템용 잡음억제회로의 설계)

  • In this paper, we present the design method of noise reduction circuit in telephonic system. The circuit consists of compressor, expander and a filter. The basic idea of a proposed method compresses the audible signal in order to mask the channel noise during transmission and then expand at the reverse rate the transmitted signal to naturally recover the original signal. Of course, there should be no distortion or other degradation of the audio itself in passing through companding(compress/expand) cycle. In the compressing process, the gain of compressor is automatically controlled by the envelope level of input signal in order to increase the effective dynamic range of input signal and to improve the signal to noise ratio. The compressed rate is the root time of a audible signal. The compressed signal should be expanded at the square time of the signal to recover a original signal. Simulation shows the proposed method improves the performance of the noise reduction of a channel noise as well as stability.

  • We propose a packet scheduling algorithms for streaming media. We assume that the receiver periodically reports back the channel throughput. From the original video data, the importance level of a video packet is determined by its relative position within its group of pictures, taking into account the motion-texture discrimination and temporal scalability. Thus, we generate a number of nested substreams. Using feedback information from the receiver and statistical characteristics of the video, we model the streaming system as a queueing system, compute the run-time decoding failure probability of a Same in each substream based on effective bandwidth approach, and determine the optimum substream to be sent at that moment in time. Since the optimum substream is updated periodically, the resulting sending order is different from the original playback order. From experiments with real video data, we show that our proposed scheduling scheme outperforms the conventional sequential sending scheme.

  • The publication of data is essential in order to receive high quality services from many applications. However, if the original data is published as it is, there is a risk that sensitive information (political tendency, disease, ets.) may reveal. Therefore, many research have been proposed, not the original data but the synthetic data generating and publishing to privacy preserve. but, there is a risk of privacy leakage still even if simply generate and publish the synthetic data by various attacks (linkage attack, inference attack, etc.). In this paper, we propose a synthetic data generation algorithm in which privacy preserved by applying differential privacy the latest privacy protection technique to GAN, which is drawing attention as a synthetic data generative model in order to prevent the leakage of such sensitive information. The generative model used CGAN for efficient learning of labeled data, and applied Rényi differential privacy, which is relaxation of differential privacy, considering the utility aspects of the data. And validation of the utility of the generated data is conducted and compared through various classifiers.

A Study on the Land Purchase Priority Measurement of the Riparian Areas in Yeongsan and Seomjin River Basin - Focusing on the Riparian Areas of the Juam Lake - (영산강·섬진강수계 수변구역 토지매수 우선순위 산정에 관한 연구 -주암호 수변구역을 사례로 -)

  • Riparian areas are significant functional grounds for inhabiting ecological system on the river such as the self-regulation of the water quality and the foundation of important corridors. For such functional device to operate, consecutive land purchase scheme that prioritizes targeted areas with high pollutant load rate imposes sustainable development of the ecological riparian belt. The purpose of this study is focused on measuring the methodology for selecting land purchse order before establishing riparian belt in accordance with pollution loading estimation and the basin approach. The Yeongsan and Seomjin river which includes targeted areas of the land purchase have been classified into the large-medium-small(standard basin) influence areas based on their catchment rage, which than sub-divided the research area of Juam lake by 38 small basins and 223 units. Small basins with the high pollution load rates have been assessed as the first prioritized targets. For the second priority, the condition of the point pollutant sources, original area of the targets, original restored area were concerned. The final decision of the land purchase order targeted only those within 50 meter range from the basin. To validate the accumulated data, the on-site investigation went along the targeted zones, which the result shows that all prioritized areas included both point and non-point pollutant sources, and had not a small originally restored areas.

Study on Original Plants of and Foreign Materials Compliance Guidelines for Zanthoxyli Pericarpium (산초(山椒)의 기원(基原)식물과 이물 규격에 관한 연구)

  • Objectives : This study aims to examine validity of the following guideline for Zanthoxyli Pericarpium in the Korean Pharmacopoeia regarding foreign materials: "the seeds of Zanthoxyli Pericarpium that are mixed should not exceed 20%." Methods : Varied compliance guidelines for and original plants of Zanthoxyli Pericarpium across countries were compared and contrasted. In order to do this, pharmacopoeias from a number of different countries including Korea were used as references. Results : The weights including seed parts were Z. piperitum 3.48g, Z. schinifolium 2.94g, and Z. bungeanum 2.16g; while the weights of peel parts were Z. piperitum 1.45g, Z. schinifolium 1.69g, and Z. bungeanum 0.98g. In terms of weight, Z. piperitum was the heaviest with its entire part including the seed, whereas Z. schinifolium was the heaviest with its peel part. The proportions of each seed in the whole part were Z. piperitum 58.33%, Z. schinifolium 42.52%, and Z. bungeanum 54.63%. Considering these figures, including seed parts in the guideline up to 20% is inappropriate; however, this guideline is inevitable in order to use seed parts for medicinal purpose. Conclusion : In this article, the author argues if any changes were to made on the guideline for Zanthoxyli Pericarpium with respect to foreign materials - "the seeds of Zanthoxyli Pericarpium that are mixed should not exceed 20%" - its seed part should firsthand be separated from its peel part and be designated as one kind of medicine. Then, revisions on the foreign materials compliance guidelines for Zanthoxyli Pericarpium should also be made.
