This study was conducted to verify seismic performance of special moment frame's joints at roof-level with high-strength concrete and SD600 bars. K-RC-H was designed according to the seismic code and K-HPFRC-H had 150% of the original hoop spacing and 1.0% steel fiber volume fraction compared with K-RC-H. Both specimens had remarkable seismic performance without noticeable decrease in moment, but with very good energy dissipation before rebar failure. The U-bars in the joint sufficiently constrained rebar's action that pushed the cover upward. SD600 bars with $1.25l_{dt}$ had minimum slip in the joint. It was considered that the steel fiber contributed to improvement of the bending moment and joint shear distortion, and the result showed that it would be possible to increase the hoop spacing to 150% of the regular spacing.

The present study reports a simple unbonded-type shear strengthening technique for reinforced concrete beams using wire rope units. Fifteen beams failed in shear were repaired and strengthened with wire rope units, and then retested to failure. Influence of the prestressing force, orientation and spacing of wire rope units on the shear behavior of strengthened beams having shear span-to-depth ratios of 1.5, 2.5, or 3.25 were investigated. Test results showed that beams strengthened with wire rope units exhibited a higher shear strength and a larger post-failure deformation than the corresponding original beams. Inclined wire rope units was more effective for shear strength enhancement than vertical wire rope units. The increase of the prestressing force in wire rope units causes the decrease of the principal tensile stress in concrete, as a result, the diagonal tensile cracking strength of strengthened beams was higher than that of the corresponding original beams. Shear capacity of strengthened beams is compared with predictions obtained from ACI 318-05 and EC 2. Shear capacity of strengthened beams having shear span-to-depth ratio below 2.5 is reasonably predicted using ACI 318-05 formula. On the other hand, EC 2 overestimates the shear transfer capacity of wire rope units for beams having shear span-to-depth ratio above 2.5.

This study was performed to examine the flowing ability and filling ability of polypropylene fiber reinforced high performance concrete. The slump flow was decreased with increasing the polypropylene fiber content, rapidly. At the box-type filling ability, the difference of box height was increased with increasing the fiber content and the box-type passing ability was closed in fiber content 1 %. The final flowing distance of L-type was decreased with increasing the fiber content. Also, it was decreased above 0.75% of polypropylene fiber content, rapidly. The filling ability of L-type was badly showed above polypropylene fiber content 0.75%. Also, the compressive strength was decreased with increasing the fiber content, but the flexural strength was shown higher than that of the concrete without fiber. At the impact resistance, drop numbers for reaching in final fracture were increased with increasing the fiber content. Also, the drop numbers for reaching initial fracture of 1mm were increased with increasing the fiber content. At the acid resistance, the percent of original mass was decreased with increasing the fiber content.
To prevent the explosive spalling of the high strength concrete and control the rise of temperature in the steel rebar during fire, a fiber cocktail method has been proposed simultaneously with the use of polypropylene and steel fiber. After applying the fiber cocktail (polypropylene and steel fibers) into the mixture of high strength concrete with a compressive strength of between 40 and 100 MPa and evaluating the thermal properties at elevated temperatures, the fire test was carried out on structural members in order to evaluate the fire resistance performance. Two column specimens were exposed to the fire without loading for 180 minutes based on the standard curve of ISO-834. No explosive spalling has been observed and the original color of specimen surface was changed to light pinkish grey. The inner temperature of concrete dropped rapidly starting from 60mm deep. After 60 minutes of exposure to the fire, the temperature gradient of fiber cocktail reinforced high strength concrete was measured as 2.2oC/mm, which is approximately 5 times less than that of normal concrete. The final temperatures of steel rebar after 180 minutes of fire test resulted in 488.0oC for corner rebar, 350.9oC for center rebar, and 419.5oC for total mean of steel rebar. The difference of mean temperature between corner and center rebar was 137.1oC The tendency of temperature rise in concrete and steel rebar changed between 100oC and 150oC The cause of decrease in temperature rise was due to the water vaporization in concrete, the lower temperature gradient of the concrete with steel and polypropylene fiber cocktails, the moisture movement toward steel rebars and the moisture clogging.

This study, the present study wishes to develop a model that estimates shear strength characteristics of steel fiber reinforced concrete using artifical neural network models. Neural network models, developed as mathematical models, are being widely used not only in its original purpose of pattern recognition, but also in application fields by the function's nonlinear loaming and interpolar ability Neural network has a repetitive rotation algorithm that can cyclically and repeatedly estimate system conditions and parameter ideal values, and it can be used in the modeling of the nonlinear system by nonlinear characteristic functions that construct the system.
Reinforced concrete frames with a masonry infill panel is a structural typology frequently used worldwide. In seismic cases, the interaction between the masonry infill and the RC frames constitutes one of the most complex subjects in earthquake engineering. In this work, an enhancement of an existing numerical model is proposed to improve the estimation of lateral strength and stiffness of masonry-infilled frame structures and predict their probable failure modes. The proposed improvement is based on attributing corrective coefficients to the shear strength of each diagonal shear spring of the macro element, which simulates the masonry infill. The improved numerical model is validated by comparing the results with those of the original numerical model and with experimental results available in the literature. The enhanced macro element model can be used as a powerful, accessible tool for assessing the capacity and stiffness of masonry-infilled frame structures and predicting their probable failure modes.
The use of post-compressed plates (PCP) to strengthen preloaded reinforced concrete (RC) columns is an innovative approach for alleviating the effects of stress-lagging between the original column and the additional steel plates. Experimental and theoretical studies on PCP-strengthened RC columns have been presented in our companion papers. The results have demonstrated the effectiveness of this technique for improving the strength, deformability and ductility of preloaded RC columns when subjected to axial or eccentric compression loading. An original and comprehensive design procedure is presented in this paper to aid engineers in designing this new type of PCP-strengthened RC column and to ensure proper strengthening details for desirable performance. The proposed design procedure consists of five parts: (1) the estimation of the ultimate load capacity of the strengthened column, (2) the design of the initial pre-camber displacement of the steel plate, (3) the design of the vertical spacing of the bolts, (4) the design of the bearing ends of the steel plates, and (5) the calculation of the tightening force of the bolts. A worked example of the design of a PCP-strengthened RC column is shown to demonstrate the application of the proposed design procedure.

This paper presents experimentally investigated the effects of pozzolan made from various by-Product materials on mechanical properties of mortar. Fly ash(FA), slag (BFS), and palm oil fuel ash (POFA) were partially used to replace Portland cement. The results suggest that mortars containing FA, BFS, and POFA can be used as pozzolanic materials in making concrete with 28day compressive strength. After curing, the mortar containing 10-30% FA or POFA, and 30% BFS exhibited compressive strengths that of the original Portland cement (OPC). The use of FA, POFA, and BFS to partially replace Portland cement has evaluation method of the Assessed Pozzolan-activity index.(API)
Geopolymer concrete (GC) can be competently utilized as a practical replacement for cement to prevent a high carbon footprint and to give a direction toward sustainable concrete construction. Moreover, previous studies mostly focused on the axial response of glass fiber reinforced polymer (glass-FRP) concrete compressive elements without determining the effectiveness of repairing them after their partial damage. The goal of this study is to assess the structural effectiveness of partially damaged GC columns that have been restored using carbon fiber reinforced polymer (carbon-FRP). Bars made of glass-FRP and helix made of glass-FRP are used to reinforce these columns. For comparative study, six of the twelve circular specimens-each measuring 300 mm×1200 mm-are reinforced with steel bars, while the other four are axially strengthened using glass-FRP bars (referred to as GSG columns). The broken columns are repaired and strengthened using carbon-FRP sheets after the specimens have been subjected to concentric and eccentric compression until a 30% loss in axial strength is attained in the post-peak phase. The study investigates the effects of various variables on important response metrics like axial strength, axial deflection, load-deflection response, stiffness index, strength index, ductility index, and damage response. These variables include concentric and eccentric compression, helix pitch, steel bars, carbon-FRP wrapping, and glass-FRP bars. Both before and after the quick repair process, these metrics are evaluated. The results of the investigation show that the axial strengths of the reconstructed SSG and GSG columns are, respectively, 15.3% and 20.9% higher than those of their original counterparts. In addition, compared to their SSG counterparts, the repaired GSG samples exhibit an improvement in average ductility indices of 2.92% and a drop in average stiffness indices of 3.2%.
Commonly used concrete in general, consists of cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate and water. Natural river sand is the most commonly used material as fine aggregate in concrete. One of the important requirements of concrete is that it should be durable under certain conditions of exposure. The durability of concrete is defined as its ability to resist weathering action, chemical attack or any other process of deterioration. Durable concrete will retain its original form, quality and serviceability when exposed to its environment. Deterioration can occur in various forms such as alkali aggregate expansion, freeze-thaw expansion, salt scaling by de-icing salts, shrinkage, attack on the reinforcement due to carbonation, sulphate attack on exposure to ground water, sea water attack and corrosion caused by salts. Addition of admixtures may control these effects. In this paper, an attempt has been made to replace part of fine aggregate by tailing material and part of cement by fly ash to improve the durability of concrete. The various durability tests performed were chemical attack tests such as sulphate attack, chloride attack and acid attack test and water absorption test. The concrete blend with 35% Tailing Material (TM) in place of river sand and 20% Fly Ash (FA) in place of OPC, has exhibited higher durability characteristics.
