Objectives : CHUNA therapy that removes compression of dislocated vertebral bones has positive effect, but sometimes improper CHUNA manual therapy may give rise to negative effect. The aim of this study is to make sure that cervical CHUNA manual therapy give positive effect or negative effect to the blood flow velocity of vertebral artery(VA) and basilar artery(BA) by Trancranial Doppler sonography(TCD). Methods : We performed TCD study on 20patients(male 5, female 15, mean ages 38.5 years) with diagnosis like cervical movement related disorder, headache or dizziness. After we measured mean blood flow velocity(Vm) of VA and BA before cervical CHUNA therapy(Pre-CCT) and after cervical CHUNA therapy(Post-CCT), statistically evaluated the results. Results: The patients received cervical CHUNA therapy for TA sequel, HIVD of cervical spine, headache, dizziness, neck stiffness etc. VA Vm was $31.9{\pm}8.0cm/sec$ before CHUNA therapy, but significantly increased $35.0{\pm}8.7cm/sec$ after CHUNA therapy (p < 0.05). But, there was no significant variation of BA Vm between $41.8{\pm}7.5cm/sec$ Pre-CCT and $41.2{\pm}8.5cm/sec$ Post-CCT(p>0.05). Though VA Vm slightly increased after CHUNA therapy in normal range group, there was no significant variation between VA Vm Pre-CCT and VA Vm Post~CCT. In VA Vm decrease group, VA Vm significantly increased after CHUNA therapy(p<0.05). But, there was no significant variation of BA Vm between Pre-CCT and Post-CCT in BA Vm normal range group and BA Vm decrease group(p>0.05). Conclusions: These findings suggest that cervical CHUNA manual therapy have positive effect on blood flow velocity of VA and BA.
Purpose: This study was designed to identify knowledge and performance level of infection control among oriental medical doctors and nurses and further to identify factors that may influence practice. Methods: Data were collected using the survey method. Two hundred and forty two healthcare workers (HCW) from five oriental medicine university hospitals in Korea (140 physicians and 102 nurses) completed a survey about infection control. The study was conducted from February 1 to 28, 2011. Results: The average knowledge level of infection control among HCW was $0.75{\pm}0.13$ (score range 0~1) and the average performance level of infection control was $3.16{\pm}1.05$ (score range 0~5). 'Disinfection and sterilization' were ranked the highest in both the knowledge and performance level. In the knowledge level, 'hand washing/hand hygiene' were ranked the lowest. 'Bloodstream infection prevention' was the lowest among the infection control categories in performance. Total average knowledge and performance level of nurses was significantly higher than that of the physicians. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the oriental medical doctors and nurses' knowledge and performance level of infection control differed. The education on infection control is required to oriental medical doctors and nurses and it would contribute to preventing healthcare associated infections in oriental medicine hospitals.

This study was performed to investigate the influence of extracts from mixed culture with Tricholoma matsutake mycelium and Cordyceps militaris mycelium on hypoglycemia in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Experimental animals were divided into 7 groups : normal control group(NC), diabetes control group (DC), positive control group(PC), non-fermented OCM(oriental medicine & cereal medium) extracts group (UM), crude polysaccharide of non-fermented OCM extracts group (UME), fermented OCM extracts group (UF), crude polysaccharide of fermented OCM extracts group (UFE). NC, DC groups were orally administered saline, PC group was orally administered acarbose. UM, UME, UF, UFE groups were orally administered each extract once a day for 14days. Blood glucose level was lower in the all administering OCM extract groups (UM, UME, UF, UFE) than in the diabetes group(p<0.05), and specially UF, UFE groups were similar to tendency of PC group. ALT, ALP activity in OCM groups were not significantly lowered than PC group(p<0.05). AST activity was not different with PC group. The results of this study show that extracts from mixed culture with Tricholoma matsutake mycelium and Cordyceps militaris mycelium may have a beneficial effect on the hypoglycemia.

Objectives : This study was aimed to find the motivation and satisfaction of subjects who participated in acupuncture and moxibustion clinical trials and to suggest ways to improve clinical trial management. Methods : We conducted a survey and collected the data of 233 subjects of acupuncture and moxibustion clinical trials from 6 university hospitals. Results : For all 233 subjects, the mean of the total satisfaction score was 4.07 (perfect score 5.0), and the score was particularly high in aspects of the investigator and clinical research coordinator, but low in the site and sponsor aspects. There were no differences in the satisfaction degree with general characteristics. The satisfaction degree of the acupuncture and moxibustion clinical trials was strong positive correlated with participation benefits(r=0.595) and easy contact with the research team (r=0.500). Conclusions : Most subjects showed positive perception and interest in the clinical trials. Future studies should investigate how personal factors influence the satisfaction of subjects, should identify a specific classification criterion, and create a standardized protocol for the clinical trials.
This clinical study was done to investigate how the perticular elements of coffee reflects a person using MMPI (Minesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) as a guide. This study was done based on the sample groups of 29 coffee-drinking-studensts and 21 non-coffee-drinking students. The results were as follows ; 1. The mean T-scores on all the scales were within normal range in coffee-drinking-group. 2. The personal traits of coffee-drinking-group showed elevated scales of Hs, D, Hy and Pt and showed 3, 1, 2 profile type. 3. Comparing non-coffee-drinking-group with coffee-drinking-group, scales of Hs, D, Hy, Mf, Pt, Ma were significantly higher in the latter. 4. According to pattern analysis, Psycho-neurotic trait was recognized in 62.07% of non-coffee-drinking-group, 76.19% of coffee-drinking-group. As a result, aboves support the exiting hypothesis that coffee give rise to Blood-asthenia(血虛) and Spleen-Lack of transports(脾不運化) and have an influence on neurosis, psychosis and sleep disturbance.

Many of researches have revealed that human intestinal microbiota is related to health. Several diseases like obesity, diabetes, and hypertension are affected by the microbiota directly and indirectly. So, interventions with food and drug have been tried to change a composition of the microbiota to better condition. However, few natural medicines have elucidated to date. To understand an influence on microbiota by plant materials including Glycyrrhizae Radix, the extract of medicines were administered to mice and the feces were collected before and after the administration. The feces were analyzed by terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP). The changes in composition of mice gut microbiota were detected and analyzed. The data could be utilized to further study about biological activities of the plant medicines.
In the Oriental Medicine, the element of coldness is regarded as one of the important causes which induce female's diseases. Nowadays the number of the female patients is ascending that serously appeal the coldness-sense and pain-sense at the particular part of the body, for example, hand, foot, abdomen, waist, external genital portion and so on. These are caused by female's physiological characteristics of the menstration and delivery, and the influence of the life circumstances, for example, the clothes briefness, the overdiet, oversetting of the airconditioner. The Female's Part-Coldness Syndrome is a disease which the oriental people better than the western people suffer from and if it would be sick for a long time, it could brings into the other diseases. The Oriental Medicine have better effects by the diagnosis and treatment according per symptom in the contrast with the Western Medicine having difficulties in the point of accurate diagnosis and treatment.
Influence of soil temperature [accumulated degree-day for the base temperature $5^{\circ}$($\textrm{DD}_5$)] on the development of Meloidogyne arenaria were studied in a winter grown oriental melon greenhouse in Seongju, Korea. Egg masses were first observed on roots at the accumulation of 565 $\textrm{DD}_5$(40 days after transplanting), suggesting that the nematode has completed the first generation in 40 days. Second-stage juveniles (J2) densities were lowest at 863 $\textrm{DD}_5$ in April, first increased at 1,334 $\textrm{DD}_5$ in May, peaked at 2,951 $\textrm{DD}_5$ in July, and decliner thereafter. Development of egg masses and J2 density in soil revealed that M. arenaria could develop in 7-8 generations in a year in the greenhouse. Degree-day monitoring, therefore, could aid to predict nematode development in soil and can be valuable tool a to develop root-knot nematode control strategies.
