  • The sense of place at school environment becomes more important as children increasingly spend more time in school and children's attachment to the environment affects the cognition development of children. The goal of this research is to identify characteristics that enhance the sense of place for children in outdoor space and check the possibilities of forming it in the school environments. Through the analysis of design document and design report for schematic design of elementary school which is executed through Korean Institute of Educational Facilities between 2002-2005, 47cases from 32elementary schools are analyzed. As a result it is found that designers tend to orient towards the visual aspects compared to other invisible aspects such as thermal comfort and participation of children, which is extracted as a key characteristics of forming a sense of place for children. More attention is required to enhance the sense of place in school environment to support the child development in everyday space.

  • Landscape Style would take various influences in general. In that of Korean Palaces religious thinking has been caused he most important factor. This conceptual attitude has been derived from Confucian philosophies and the doctrines of Taoism, the realm of ideas that had constituted the schema of culture through long times in the Orient. This paper has dealt with the influences of one's outlook on the universe, antropocentricism, and on the relationships of man and nature in those two major teachings upon the landscape style of palaces in Chosun Dynasty. The Confucian philosophies and the doctrines of Taoism in Taosim in palaces would be summarized as followings: 1. The composition of exterior spaces had been understood as a place for moral training and political morality in the world view of Confucious. 2. The view point on court circle with plants and trees had directed to the influences of beauty upon the human spirit, and it is clear in naming attitude. 3. The composition type of void and solid in palaces would focused on the completion of Confucian thoughts totally, and the method of a unit space is same. 4. The double symbolic ideas could be find out in the components of exterior space; one is Confucian in phenomena, the other is Taoism in meaning. This can be cleared in Pangji(方池), layout of natural features, and in planting methods. As a conclusion, the common spiritual base in landscape architecture of Korean old palaces can be understood as two major thinkings; Confucian philosophies and the doctrines of Taoism.

  • Geomancy(風水, Fengshui in Chinese) is a geographic idea of the Orient that studies a piece of land(a site) to pursue the healthier and more comfortable life for people seeking a harmony with nature, and also, a practical science. Among the theoretical systems of the traditional geomancy handed down by the scriptures, the compass school(理氣論) makes researches into mountains, winds, the currents and amount of water circulation by using luo-pan(羅盤) for finding spot(穴), and it has been considered that it is the objective and logical analysis system of natural environment of selecting a good site by dividing the vitality of the ground into 12 levels of natural circulation principles and judging its direction by means of 88-direction method. In this context, researcher optimized the logic of 88-direction method by the 12-circulation system(胞胎法) of the compass school on the basis of directional theory, then after, using GIS analytical tool, researcher performed comparative analysis between the results from land suitability analysis of the subject site and the resulting value of the directional method in geomancy. The results therefrom indicated that more flexible directions and site could be chosen by applying 88-direction method. For the future research, it is required to apply wider variety of variables to the field study and more careful review of the case study with a focus on the 88-directiont method.

  • A folding screen, which spread from china, is varied by many country. Each country make folding screen to fit their culture. Since oriental culture spread to europe, Chinoiserie and Japonism arise in europe at 18C, 19C. Specifically, Chinoiserie arise at 18C, after rococo. And Japonism arise at 19C, after World's fair. But korean culture, even if korea is part of the orient, doesn't found in europe. Korean folding screen doesn't found neither. Chinoiserie and Japonism are not special to oriental people. It's just customs for them. But europe feel it is special because their customs is not familiar to europe. We have to research about our familiar customs and diffuse it to world. That is our task. So this research will compare symbolic meaning and frame between each country's-korea, china, japan, europe- folding screen at formal concept angle. This research will be a basement data about what we concentrate for find korean's own culture style. Because this research is about folding screen, which stimulate western people's interest and has deep oriental color. Also this research help to make modern explication about korean old tradition.

  • The modern is image age, and The visually expressed symbols have much influence on individuals or enterprises and have an effect on the variety of individual and the innovation of management. Espacially, the symbols carry on the axis composing total image. According to the reason of positive & negative five elements, this paper analysised and studied the meaning of symbol design which analysis the thoughtful, abstract and formal meaning. This is the most fundmental elements and principals and means the good symbol composed harmoniously the positive & negative five elements give good image. Namely, the symbols of the Eum & Yan which applied the philosophical reason of the Orient thought became good image. The lively elements of design composed the reason of Eum & Yang have effect on auspicious and upgrade one step to the dimension of symbol design. The purpose of this paper analysises and understands the meaning of symbol was composed the positive & negative five elements. In the point of view of modern design. the overlOOking elements of the symbol(line, form, space etc) reminded and established the new model which the new idea approached by the thought of the positive & negative five elements.

  • The effect of heat on the cancer have been keen since ancient orint medic. Quantitative biologic techniques were applied to the investigation of heat, and the resulting studies have defined a firm rationale for the expectation that hypertherima will be useful in the treatment of cancer. This promise led to activity in developing physical means to produce and measure hyperthermia in patients. Hyperthermic treatments for cancer are grouped into two categories according two the amount of tissue bing heated during the treatments. The categories commonly used are localized, regional, and whole body hyperthermia. Hyperthermia is a situation referring to yang-heat. In orient medic, It refers to vital-qi and the driving force of life activities. Our paper reviewed the present state of the the hyperthemia, outline some major impediments to progress at this time, and suggest researching approches in order to define the role of hyperthermia in the treatment of cancer.

  • Human fungal infections are uncommon in normally healthy persons, being confined to conditions such as candidiasis (thrush) and dermatophyte skin infections such as athlete's foot. However, in the immunocompromised host, a variety of normally mild or nonpathogenic fungi can cause potentially fatal infections. Furthermore, the relativeease with which people can now visit 'exotic' countries provides the means for unusual fungal infections to be imported into this country. Mycoses appear in many different forms and areas. Fungal infections or mycoses are classified depending on the degree of tissue involvement and mode of entry into the host. These are Cutaneous, Subcutaneous, Systemic, and Opportunistic. Cutaneous mycoses specially appears symptoms on the skin. They are treated by amphotericinB, nystatin, grycelfulvin, micronazole and ketaconazole, etc, but these medicines are been careful about using, because most of them have serious side effects and toxicities. So, on the purpose of finding safe novel medicines, we have researched oriental medicines and search them to treat mycoses. In oriental medicines treating mycoses, we pay attention to orient applications that directly have an effect on disorder lesions. Oriental applications consists of various herbs and have a lot of forms, so we try to classify them as herbs and forms

  • Electropulsegraphy is a medical device that was invented by an orient medical physician and a few engineers to help the physicians to diagnose patients in more systematic way by analyzing waveforms generated from the device. Data generated form the device has been collected for over several decades, and undergoes functional upgrades today. The device generates 33 waveforms that reflect the states of patients. As one of those upgrading efforts, we strive to develop an intelligent algorithm that makes the diagnostic process automatically, which was previously done manually for a long period of time. The logistic regression algorithm is used for our classification problems, which is one of those well-known algorithms for various classification problems such as character recognition systems. Out of the 33 waveforms, we only use 5 waveform data (Type1 toType5) as training data sets to estimate the parameters of the logistic regression. And the parameters are used to classify waveform inputs chosen at random.
