  • We prepared ambipolar organic field-effect transistors and observed blue emission when both hole and electron accumulation layers were in the channel. We found that the reduction of carrier traps and controlling devices' preparation and measurement conditions were crucial for ambipolar operation.

  • Recently, Top emission organic light-emitting diode (TEOLED) has been attracted by their potential application for the development of flat panel display (FPD). We have fabricated the high luminance top emission organic-emitting diode (TEOLED) using dual cathode layer and three top emitting structure. These devices were characterized by electroluminescence (EL) and current density-voltage (J-V) measurements. After compared it with Au anode structure, luminance of the device using dual anode was better than using without Al device. Consequently, Al layers are very good candidates for a promising electron-injecting buffer layer for top emission light-emitting diode (TEOLED).

  • In this study, we designed color of tunable and high efficient organic materials using the quantum dynamics and the semi-empirical calculation, and applied this results to the fabrication of organic light-emitting diodes. Also we optimized the molecular structure of phosphorescent materials and the energy transfer from a host to a dye which makes organic light-emitting diodes improve. Using quantum dynamics method, the molecular structures of ligand only and the whole metal chelate were optimized, and these energy levels were calculated. From this test results, we could understand the emission mechanism of phosphors with various ligands as well as design the proper ligands reducing the T-T annihilation and the carrier lifetime. We also could design ligands with various colors using this test method.

  • High-efficiency white organic light-emitting diodes(WOLEDs) were fabricated with two emissive layers and an blocking layer was sandwiched between two phosphorescent dopants, bis(3,5-difluoro-2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl-(2-carboxypyridyl) iridium III(FIrpic) as the blue emission and a newly synthesized red phosphorescent material guest, bis(5-acetyl-2-phenylpyridinato-N,C2') acetylacetonate($(acppy)_2Ir(acac)$). This blocking layer prevented a T-T annihilation in a red emissive layer, and balanced with blue and red emission as blocking of hole carriers. The white device showed Commission Internationale d'Eclairage($CIE_{x,y}$) coordinates of (0.317, 0.425) at 22400 $cd/m^2$, a maximum luminance of 27300 $cd/m^2$ at 268 $mA/cm^2$, a maximum luminous efficiency and power efficiency of 26.9 cd/A and 18.6 lm/W.

  • An improvement of light-extraction efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes was studied by using random-textured films (RTF). Device was made in a structure of RTF/glass/ITO/TPD/$Alq_3$/LiF/Al. RTF mold was made by spreading PDMS solution on a sandpaper. By pressing this mold on the glass substrate pre-coated with ZPU material, the RTF was obtained. From this study, there was an improvement of external quantum efficiency by about 30% in the device with the random-textured film (RTF 40) compared to that of the reference one.

  • Tandem organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) do not always improve power efficiency over their conventional OLED counterparts. When a tandem OLED utilizes optimized EL units, increased power efficiency can only be achieved if the intermediate connector in the device has excellent charge injection capability.

  • Quantum dots (QDs) are considered as excellent color conversion and self-emitting materials for display and lighting applications. In this article, various technologies which can be used to realize white light emission with QDs are discussed. QDs have good color purity with a narrow emission spectrum and tunable optical properties with size control capabilities. For white light emission with a color-conversion approach, QDs are combined with blue-emitting inorganic and organic light-emitting diodes (LED) to generate white emission with high energy conversion efficiency and a high color rendering index for various display and lighting applications. Various device structures for self-emitting white QD light-emitting diodes (QD-LED) are also reviewed. Various stacking and patterning technologies are discussed in relation to QD-LED devices.

  • Organic transistors are promising in the future development of active devices for flexible, low-cost and large-area photoelectric devices. However, conventional organic field-effect transistors have lowspeed, low-power, and relatively high operational voltage. Vertical type transistors show high-speed and high-current characteristics and are suitable for driver elements of flexible displays.

  • In the fabrication of inverted top emission organic light emitting diodes (ITOLEDs), the organic layers are damaged by high-energy plasma sputtering process for transparent top anode. In this study, the plasma process induced damages on metal oxide hole injection layers (HILs) including $WO_3$, $MoO_3$, and $V_2O_5$ as buffer layer are examined. With the result of IV characteristic of hole-only devices, we propose that $MoO_3$ and $V_2O_5$ are stable materials against plasma sputtering process.

  • We demonstrate a new approach to form gradient hole injection layer (HIL) in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Single spincoating of hole-injecting conducting polymer compositions with a perfluorinated ionomer results in gradient workfunction through the layer by self-organization, which lead to remarkably efficient single layer polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) (${\sim}21$ cd/A). The device lifetime was significantly improved (${\sim50$ times) compared with the conventional hole injection layer, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxy-thiophene)/polystyrene sulfonate. This solution processed HIL also produced dramatically enhanced luminous efficiency (${\sim}34$ cd/A) in vacuum- deposited green fluorescent OLEDs while the vacuum deposited HIL gave the luminous efficiency of ${\sim}23$ cd/A in the same device structure.
