We synthesized a poly[2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl) benzoxazole] under the two step procedures of Suzuki coupling polymerization with corresponding monomers followed by the deprotection of benzyl group. The polymer in DMF solution is applicable to colorimetric sensing fluoride anion, which shows a color change from colorless to yellow. High sensitivity to fluoride anion compared to other anions such as phosphate, chloride, and sulfate is ascribed to the high coordination ability of the 2-(2'-hydroxy phenyl)benzoxazole moiety in the polymer chain. Emission shift by metal cations, which can be applied to fluorescent sensing w as also observed in the polymer solution.
In this study poly (1-methyl-4-vinylpyridinium iodide-co-styrene) membrane with pyridinium cation as a fixed carrier was synthesized and the transport characteristics of the membrane was examined over various factors. As the concentration of the fixed carrier in the membrane was increased, the water content was increased. Meanwhile, the counter current of the organic anion and the chloride ion, the following results were obtained. Initial flux of Cl-, organic anion and Na+ decreased with the increasing thickness of membrane, and as the concentration of the fixed carrier increases, the initial flux of Cl- and organic anion increase but the initial flux of Na+ decreased. The flux equation of the organic anion, CCl3COO- was obtained from saturation kinetics as follows;$V_{o}=\frac{(8.67{\times}10^{-5}){\cdot}[NaCl]}{9.63{\times}10^{-2}+[NaCl]} mol/cm^2h$
Voltammetric characterization of hydrophilic anion transfer processes across a 66 microhole array interface between the water and polyvinylchloride-2-nitrophenyloctylether gel layer is demonstrated. Since the transfer of hydrophilic anions including $Br^-$, $NO_3{^-}$, $I^-$, $SCN^-$ and $ClO_4{^-}$ across the liquid/gel interface usually sets the potential window within a negative potential region, a highly hydrophobic organic electrolyte, tetraoctylammonium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate, providing a wider potential window was incorporated into the gel phase. The transfer reaction of perchlorate anions across the microhole-water/gel interface was first studied using cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry. The full voltammetric response of perchlorate anion transfer was then used as a reference for evaluating the half-wave transfer potentials, the formal transfer potentials and the formal Gibbs transfer energies of more hydrophilic anions such as $Br^-$, $NO_3{^-}$, $I^-$, and $SCN^-$. The current response associated with the perchlorate anion transfer across the micro-water/gel interface versus the perchlorate concentration was also demonstrated for sensing applications.
$(TMTSF)_2BF_4$ containing non-centrosymmetric anions is well known to exhibit a metal insulator transition around 37 K by ordering of the anions with a $q_2$=(1/2, 1/2, 1/2) wave vector. We established pressure-temperature phase diagram of the $(TMTSF)_2BF_4$ compound and showed that it can belong to the general phase diagram of the $(TMTSF)_2X$ family. Application of hydrostatic pressure decreases the anion ordering transition temperature and the superconducting state is finally stabilized below 3.77 K under 7.7 kbar. Magnetoresistance measurement on the $(TMTSF)_2BF_4$ under 7.8 kbar is performed but neither the field-induced spin-density-wave state nor the rapid oscillation is observed up to 9 T.
Shape and size controlled synthesis of gold particles has been studied by using wet-chemical method. When ${AuCl_4}^-$ in aqueous $HAuCl_4$ precursor was reduced using $Na_2SO_3$ as a reducing agent, mixtures of spherical, triangular and hexagonal particles were prepared in a few minutes. It was found that the shape selective oxidative etching by ${AuCl_4}^-\;+\;Cl^-$ anions and crystal growth took place simultaneously. As the ${AuCl_4}^-$ and $Cl^-$ concentration increased, yields of large triangular and hexagonal plate type particles increased, while the spherical particles decreased in most cases. Possible etching and growth mechanisms are discussed.
The functional materials have been developed as a promising research topic toward the end uses for organic materials and applications. In this study, fluorescein based dye was synthesized by three step reaction. We have designed and synthesized the colorimetric dye through the reactions of fluorescein and methoxy group and ethylene diamine and squaric acid. The structure of the non-fluorescent spirolactam was elucidated by $^1H$-NMR, LC-Mass and FT-IR analyzes. Further studies are in progress to understand the effects of various substituent during the recognition process and to develop fluorescein based sensors for cations or anions.
The objective of this study was to determine on optimum ratio of oxidant and catalyst and to evaluate affecting factors such as anions and cations on persulfate oxidation of organic pollutant. Fe(II) activated the persulfate anion to produce a sulfate free radicals and thus effectively used to degrade the target organic pollutant in aqueous system. The chloride ions reacted with sulfate radical produced the $Cl^{\cdot}$ atom and had positive effects on the oxidation of organic pollutant at the initial stage. However, it was observed that chloride ions had the scavenging effects on the rate of oxidation of organic pollutant. Cations and some heavy metals were partly able to activate the persulfate anion to generate a sulfate free radical. However, high levels of cations inhibited the oxidation of organic pollutant.
The present study aimed to investigate the interaction of nucleoside analogs with human organic anion transporter 1 and 3(hOAT1 and hOAT3) that play a primary role in the tubular uptake of endogenous and exogenous organic anions in the kidney. The interactions of ddC, ara-C, ara-A and ara-U with hOAT1 and hOAT3 were examined using MDCK cells stably overexpressing hOAT1 or hOAT3. Among the tested drugs, ddC showed the highest affinity to hOAT1 with $IC_{50}$ values of 5.2 mM, while ara-A, ara-C and ara-U weakly inhibited the cellular uptake of $[^3H]-PAH$ in MDCK-hOAT1 cells at 1 mM. In contrast, all the tested drugs did not have any inhibition effect on the cellular uptake of $[^3H]-estrone$ sulfate in MDCK-hOAT3 cells over the drug concentration of 0.01-2 mM, implying that they might not interact with hOAT3. Taken all together, the present study suggests that hOAT1 could weakly interact with nucleoside analogues such as ddC, ara-C, ara-A and ara-U but the interaction with hOAT3 during the urinary excretion of these nucleoside analogues may be negligible in the kidney.

Anions such as C $l^{[-10]}$ , N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ , S $O_4$$^{2-}$, P $O_4$$^{3-}$, and organic anions, that do not become a part of the clay mineral crystal lattice, are of considerable interest in soils which are a potential sink caused by acid rain. In this paper, elution of native sulfate and breakthrough curves (BTC) were obtained from miscible displacement of non-specifically or specifically adsorbed anions through non-saturated or saturated Bt soil of Chungwon series. The shape and position of the BTC's could be affected by adsoprtion and ion exchange onto the soil particle surfaces. Measured BTC's for oxalic acid under unsaturated and saturated conditions showed that less pore volumes were required to displace the native S $O_4$$^{2-}$S from the soil column, and that maximum detection limit of oxalic acid reached earlier than under unsaturated. The retarded BTC's to the righthand side could be attributed by different adsorption behavior of each anion, although BTC's may be influenced by the smaller order of velocity change. The alternate breakthrough and elution curves show the rapid approach to the maximum detection limit of C/Co = 1, compared to progressive tailing of elution curve to reach to C/Co = 0. The probable explanation for asymmetric elution patterns for both anion is that the anion was selectively adsorbed on the positively charged soil surface from the solution passing in the soil column. On the other hand, the variations of pH in effluent showed that pH was increased to 7 in the first 6 pore volume and then gradually decreased to pH 4.

A novel stick-shaped portable sensing device featuring a microhole array interface between the polyvinylchloride-2-nitrophenyloctylether (PVC-NPOE) gel and water phase was developed for in-situ sensing of perchlorate ions in real water samples. Perchlorate sensitive sensing responses were obtained based on measuring the current changes with respect to the assisted transfer reaction of perchlorate ions by a perchlorate selective ligand namely, bis(dibenzoylmethanato)Ni(II) (Ni(DBM)2) across the polarized microhole array interface. Cyclic voltammetry was used to characterize the assisted transfer reaction of perchlorate ions by the $Ni(DBM)_2$ ligand when using the portable sensing device. The current response for the transfer of perchlorate anions by $Ni(DBM)_2$ across the micro-water/gel interface linearly increased as a function of the perchlorate ion concentration. The technique of differential pulse stripping voltammetry was also utilized to improve the sensitivity of the perchlorate anion detection down to 10 ppb. This was acquired by preconcentrating perchlorate anions in the gel layer by means of holding the ion transfer potential at 0 mV (vs. Ag/AgCl) for 30 s followed by stripping the complexed perchlorate ion with the ligand. The effect of various potential interfering anions on the perchlorate sensor was also investigated and showed an excellent selectivity over $Br^-$, $NO_2{^-}$, $NO_3{^-}$, $CO{_3}^{2^-}$, $CH_3COO^-$ and $SO{_4}^{2^-}$ ions. As a final demonstration, some regional water samples from the Sincheon river in Daegu city were analyzed and the data was verified with that of ion chromatography (IC) analysis from one of the Korean-certified water quality evaluation centers.
