Rate-acceleration of TEMPO-mediated Polymerization of Styrene in the Presence of Various Acids

  • The acceleration effect of various organic acids, such as methanesulfonic acid (MSA), ethanesulfonic acid (ESA), 4,4'-sulfonyldibenzoic acid (SDA), diphenylacetic acid (DPAA), and $\rho$-toluenesulfonic acid (TSA), on the rate of styrene bulk polymerization with 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyloxy (TEMPO) and benzoyl peroxide (BPO) was investigated. The addition of organic acids significantly accelerated the rate. Among these organic acids, DPAA showed an efficient rate-accelerating effect with living nature of polymerization. When DPAA was used as a rate-accelerating additive for TEMPO-mediated living free radical polymerization (LFRP), the rate of polymerization was dramatically enhanced, the linearity of reaction kinetics was successfully maintained, and the polydispersity was effectively controlled.

Quality Characteristics of Tteokgalbi with Black Rice Bran and Organic Acid to Substitute Synthetic Caramel Colorant

  • This study aimed to evaluate the quality characteristics of Tteokgalbi with 1% (w/w) black rice bran only (T1), or with black rice bran and one of the following four types of organic acid: ascorbic acid (T2), citric acid (T3), tartaric acid (T4), or maleic acid (T5) as a substitute for caramel colorant. Tteokgalbi with only black rice bran showed the highest (p<0.05) values of moisture content and water holding capacity (WHC), while there were no significant differences in protein content, fat content, ash content, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) values in treatments and controls (p>0.05). All the treated samples with any one of the four organic acids showed lower pH than controls (p<0.05). The lightness and redness of Tteokgalbi treated with any one of the four organic acids and black rice bran were higher than those of T1. The volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) values of T4 and T5 were higher than those of the other treatments (p<0.05). With regards to sensory characteristics, T1 and T2 showed overall acceptability similar to that of the controls (p>0.05). The results reported in this study show that Tteokgalbi with black rice bran and any one of the four organic acids listed above not only improved quality characteristics in cooking loss, WHC, lipid oxidation but also could successfully replace the synthetic caramel colorant. Overall, the most satisfactory results were obtained by adding black rice bran and ascorbic acid.

Effects of Organic Acids on Availability of Phosphate and Growth of Corn in Phosphate and Salts Accumulated Soil

  • Accumulated Phosphate can be released by ligand exchange reaction of organic acids. The objective of this study was to evaluate effects of the organic acids on the availability of phosphate and the growth of crop in phosphate and salts accumulated soil. Soil samples were collected from farmer's plastic film house. Available phosphate and electrical conductivity of soil were $3,005mg\;kg^{-1}$ and $16.63mg\;kg^{-1}$ which were 6 and 8 times higher than the optimum range of soil for crop growth, respectively. Corns were cultivated in pots for 2 months. Treatments were no treatment (control), phosphate fertilizer (P), citric acid (CA) 1, 5, 10 mM, and oxalic acid (OA) 1, 5, 10 mM. Water soluble phosphorus, available phosphate, corn growth and uptake were determined after cultivation. Results showed that organic acids increased water soluble phosphorus and available phosphate. For the level of 10 mM, the order of effectiveness of organic acids for water soluble P was citric acid (44%) > oxalic acid (32%). Height and dry weight of corns were increased significantly by the treatment of citric acid 1 and 5 mM. Also, corn absorbed more phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium, calcium and magnesium in the treatment of citric acid 1 mM than these of other treatments. Even though phosphate availability of soil was enhanced by addition of citric acid 10 mM, the growth of corns decreased because high concentration of citric acid caused salt damage by increasement of electrical conductivity. Thus, the citric acid of 1 mM has the potential to improve the availability of phosphate and the healthy growth of corns.

Conversion of G. hansenii PJK into Non-cellulose-producing Mutants According to the Culture Condition

  • The conversion of a cellulose-producing cell ($Cel^+$) from Gluconacetobacter hansenii PJK (KCTC 10505 BP) to a non-cellulose-producing cell ($Cel^-$) was investigated by measuring the colony forming unit (CFU). This was achieved in a shaking flask with three slanted baffles, which exerted a strong shear stress. The addition of organic acid, such as glutamic acid and acetic acid, induced the conversion of microbial cells from a wild type to $Cel^-$ mutants in a flask culture. The supplementation of $1\%$ ethanol to the medium containing an organic acid depressed the con-version of the microbial cells to $Cel^-$ mutants in a conventional flask without slanted baffles. The addition of ethanol to the medium containing an organic acid; however, accelerated the conversion of microbial cells in the flask with slanted baffles. The $Cel^+$ cells from the agitated culture were not easily converted into $Cel^-$ mutants on the additions of organic acid and ethanol to a flask without Slanted baffles, but some portion of the $Cel^+$ cells were converted to $Cel^-$ mutants in a flask with slanted baffles. The conversion ratio of $Cel^+$ cells to $Cel^-$ mutants was strongly re-lated to the production of bacterial cellulose independently from the cell growth.

  • P. edulis순(荀)의 free amino acid 및 organic acid의 종류(種類)와 함량(含量)을 측정(測定)한 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. (1) Free amino acid는 18종(種)이 검출(檢出)되었는데, lysine histidine arginine tryptophan aspartic acid glutamic acid threonine serine proline glycine alanine valine methionine isoleucine leucine tyrosine phenylalanine 등 17종(種)이 정량(定量)되었으며 이들 중 serine이 가장 많았고, 1종(種)은 미확인(未確認)되었다. (2) Organic acid는 11종(種)이 검출(檢出)되었으며 이들 중 formic acid acetic acid oxalic acid maleic acid succinic acid fumaric acid citric acid tartaric acid sorbic acid 등 9종(種)이 확인(確認)되었고, 이들 중 oxalic acid가 가장 많아 291.14mg%이었으며, 2종(種)은 미확인(未確認)되었다.

유기산 첨가 발효가 쌀 증류식 소주의 양조특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Organic Acids Addition to Fermentation on the Brewing Characteristics of Soju Distilled from Rice)

  • 유기산(acetic acid, citric acid, lactic acid)이 쌀 증류식 소주의 양조특성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 유기산 첨가에 의해서 술덧의 pH는 4.2에서 3.73-3.97, 산도는 5.06에서 8.13-9.98, 아미노산도는 2.56에서 2.27-2.34, 휘발산은 66.0에서 89.6-124.8 ppm으로 변하였다. 알코올 함량은 대조구는 17.8%, 첨가구는 각각 17.0, 17.8, 17.6%이었다. 술덧에 남아있는 acetic acid는 첨가된 양보다 증가한 반면 citric acid와 lactic acid는 첨가된 양보다 각각 1.30, 40.57% 감소되었다. pH변화에 의해 프로테이스 활성이 감소하였고 질소화합물 총량은 유기산 첨가에 의해서 각각 13.1, 36.9, 30.9% 감소하였다. 유리아미노산 중 alanine acid, arginine acid, glutamic acid가 질소화합물 총량의 10% 이상씩 함유되어 있었고 유기산 첨가에 의해서 methionine은 2.8-29.4%, cysteine은 12.5-30.8% 감소되었다. 첨가된 유기산은 증류효율에 영향을 미치지 않았으며 citric 및 lactic acid에 의해서 증류원액(알코올 함량 40%)의 TBA 값이 2.2-3.6배 낮아졌다. 알코올 함량이 25%로 조절된 소주의 isobutanol (B), isoamyl alcohol (A), 1-propanol (P) 함량의 합은 각각 1,041.47, 979.50, 961.48 ppm으로 대조구(935.27 ppm)보다 증가되었다. 유기산 첨가에 의해서 소주의 A/P비, A/B비, B/P비가 변하였으며 acetaldehyde 함량의 감소를 가져왔다.

  • 석유화학공정에서 발생하는 폐촉매는 바나듐, 몰리브덴, 니켈, 코발트와 같은 희유금속을 함유하고 있다. 유기산에 의한 상기 금속의 침출에 대해 연구하였다. 본 논문에서 사용한 유기산에 의한 금속의 침출률은 옥살산 > 타르타르산 > 구연산 > 말레산 > 오스코브르산 순서이었다. 상기 유기산은 바나듐과 몰리브덴의 침출에 선택성이 있으며 옥살산에 의한 침출률이 가장 높았다. 옥살산의 농도, 반응온도, 광액밀도, 교반속도를 변화시켜 옥살산에 의한 바나듐의 최적침출조건을 얻었다. 옥살산에 의한 바나듐의 침출에 대한 속도식을 조사한 결과 Avrami식과 잘 맞았으며 활성화에너지는 8.76 kJ/mol로 물질전달에 의해 침출반응이 율속되었다.

월동배추의 품질 특성 및 김치 발효 중 이화학적 변화 (Quality Characteristics of Winter Chinese Cabbage and Changes of Quality During the Kimchi Fermentation)

  • 월동 배추 3품종 중 외형적 특징을 조사한 결과 '만풍'이 가장 크고, 무거웠으며 잎의 두께도 가장 두꺼웠다. 그러나 김치제조 시 다듬는 과정에서 초록색의 크고 두꺼운 겉잎이 많이 제거되어 가식부위의 무게는 '설왕'보다 적었다. 배추 3품종 중잎이 두꺼운 '만풍'이 경도 또한 가장 높았으며 산도도 높았다. 김치 제조 후 품질을 조사한 결과 '만풍'은 조직의 경도 저하가 다른 품종에 비하여 적었지만 pH 및 총산의 변화에 있어서는 '만풍' 품종이 가장 큰 변화를 보였다. 김치 발효시 초기의 주된 유기산은 citric acid였지만 발효가 진행되면서 lactic acid와 acetic acid의 생성량이 급격히 증가하였으며 숙성 말기의 주된 유기산은 lactic acid였으며 '만풍' 품종에서 679.7㎎/100g으로서 전체 유기산중 69.6%를 차지하였다.

갓김치 숙성중 당, 유기산, 유리아미노산 및 핵산관련 물질 함량의 변화 (Changes in the Contents of Sugar, Organic Acid, Free Amino Acid and Nucleic Acid-Related Compounds during Fermentation of Leaf Mustard-Kimchi)

  • Changes in the contents of sugar, organic acid, free amino acid and uncleic acid-related compounds of leaf mustard-Kimchi during fermentation at 5~7$^{\circ}C$ were investigated. The leaf mustard-Kimchi was formulated with 4kg leaf mustard, 120g garlic, 80g ginger, 540ml salted anchovies, 1kg green onion, 200g red pepper powder, 200g ground red pepper, 60g whole sesame and 600ml glutinous rice paste. Changes in pH and acidity were relatively slow. Major free sugars were glucose(0.13%) and maltose(0.42%), and residual sugars(0.03-0.04%) were also detected after 32 days of fermentation. Major free amino acids containing more than 26.5mg% were proline, glutamic acid, alanine and histidine. Contents of total free amino acids increased from 244.8 to 397.2mg% by 24 days of fermentation. Of non-volatile organic acid, lactic acid was the most abundant(119.3mg%), and its content increased markedly after 10 days of fermentation. Other organic acids(below 53.1mg%) observed were malic, oxalic and citric acid. Contents of nucleic acid-related compounds were high in the order of hypoxanthine(22.8mg%), IMP(8.3mg%) and GMP(6.9mg%). Hypoxanthine content increased by 10 days(27.3mg%) and decreased thereafter, while the others decreased gradually during the overall period of fermentation.

  • 이 실험의 목적은 침엽수(Paraserianthes falcataria)와 활엽수(Shoreasp) 골목에서 두 개의 Ganoderma lucidum 균주의 자실체 발생과 성장을 연구하고 자실체의 organic germanium 과 crude ganoderic acid 함량을 측정하기 위함이다. 두 개의 Ganaderma lucidum중 하나는 인도네시아 본지에서 분리한 것이고 또 다른 하나는 Fungi Perfecti, USA에서 구입한 것을 사용하였다. 일반적으로 활엽수에서 생성된 자실체의 농도가 침엽수에서 자란 것보다 훨씬 높다. 두 종류의 골목 모두에서 상업용 균주에서 생산된 자실체의 organic germanium 농도가 인도네시아의 균주에서 생산된 자실체의 organic germanium 농도보다 높았다. 이에 반하여 버섯 자실체의 crude ganoderic acid 농도는 두 개의 균주로부터 생산된 자실체에서 거의 같은 농도를 보였다. 인도네시아 균주는 상업용 분리균주와 비교했을 때 생산된 자실체의 총 organic germanium과 총 crude ganoderic acid의 생산성이 높았다.
