막면 세균 증식에 의한 막오염에 관한 연구 (Effect of Membrane Fouling due to Micro-organism Growth on the Membrane Surface)

  • High quality drinking water can be produced by membrane separation process. A major problem in the current system is a membrane fouling control. In order to investigate membrane fouling due to E.coll removal, lab scale experiment using MF and UF and semi pilot plant experiment using UV radiation or not was performed. AS a result, the possibility of membrane fouling control by repressing of micro-organism on the membrane surface was clearly verified. But it was not clearly verified in this experiment the combined effect with other factors such as Turbidity, organic and inorganic matters.

폴리케톤(PK) 지지체를 이용한 유기용매 역삼투(OSRO) 분리막의 제조 및 특성 평가 (Preparation and Characterization of Organic Solvent Reverse Osmosis (OSRO) Membranes Using Polyketone (PK) Supports)

  • 본 연구는 폴리케톤(PK) 지지체를 이용한 유기용매 역삼투(OSRO) 분리막 제조를 목적으로 하였다. 비용매 유도상분리 방법(NIPS)을 통해 PK 지지체를 제작하였고, PK 지지체 위에 polyamide layer를 계면 중합하여 thin-film composite(TFC) 형태로 OSRO 분리막을 완성하였다. 이후 OSRO 분리막의 표면과 단면 구조 및 표면의 화학적 구조를 분석하였고 수투과도와 염 제거율은 각각 약 1.28 LMH/bar와 99.0%의 결과를 얻었다. 또한 OSRO 분리막의 polyamide layer는 유기용매침지 1일 동안 매우 안정적이었고, 단일 유기용매 투과도 경향성은 유기용매 나노여과(OSN) 분리막의 투과도 모델과 일치하였다. OSRO 분리막의 MWCO는 MeOH 상에서 240 g/mol이었다. OSRO 분리막의 MeOH-toluene 혼합용액에 대한 투과도와 separation factor는 상용 OSN 분리막보다 각각 200%와 60%의 높은 결과를 얻었다.

  • 투과 증발은 막을 근거로 한 에너지 절약형 분리공정으로서 전통적인 증류 분리공정과 비교하여 높은 선택도를 나타내기 때문에 액상 혼합물 분리에 대체 공정으로서 주목받고 있다. 투과 증발에 이용되는 분리막으로서 제올라이트 분리막은 고분자 분리막보다 열적, 기계적, 화학적 안정성이 우수하며 특히 silicalite-1 분리막은 큰 소수성을 나타내기 때문에 유기화합물을 수용액으로부터 효과적으로 분리할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 silicalite-1 분리막을 이용한 투과 증발 실험을 통하여 케톤계 휘발성 유기화합물을 분리하였다. 아세톤과 MEK의 공급 농도가 증가함에 따라 아세톤과 MEK의 투과 플럭스는 증가하였으며 선택도는 감소함을 관찰할 수 있었다.

Separation of Silicon and Silica by Liquid-Liquid Extraction

  • The objective of this investigation was to separate silicon and silica for recycling by the liquid-liquid separation technique. In the preparation of silicon (Si) single crystal, a small amount of silicon is fixed on the surface of silica (quartz, $SiO_2$) crucible. The used crucible is crushed for recycling both silicon and silica in a high purity from the mixed powder. Zeta-potential of silicon and silica are almost the same at pH higher than 3. Their separation by simple flotation is ruled out. However, their hydrophobic characteristics are different in several different organic solvent from the measurement of contact angle. Therefore, the liquid-liquid extraction is employed to separate silicon and silica. The result indicates that the organic solvent mixed with dodecyl ammonium acetate could extracted the silicon powder at high purity (97-100%) with high recovery from the silica powder in the water phase.

Recent progress in supported liquid membrane technology: stabilization and feasible applications

  • Supported Liquid Membranes (SLMs) have been widely studied as feasible alternative to traditional processes for separation and purification of various chemicals both from aqueous and organic matrices. This technique offers various advantages like active transport, possibility to use expensive extractants, high selectivity, low energy requirements and minimization of chemical additives. SLMs are not yet used at large scale in industrial applications, because of the low stability. In the present paper, after a brief overview of the state of the art of SLM technology the facilitated transport mechanisms of SLM based separation is described, also introducing the small and the big carrousel models, which are employed for transport modeling. The main operating parameters (selectivity, flux and permeability) are introduced. The problems related to system stabilization are also discussed, giving particular attention to the influence of membrane materials (solid membrane support and organic liquid membrane (LM) phase). Various approaches proposed in literature to enhance SLM stability are also reviewed. Modification of the solid membrane support, creating an additional layer on membrane surface, which acts as a barrier to LM phase loss, increases system stability, but the membrane permeability, and then the flux, decrease. Stagnant Sandwich Liquid Membrane (SSwLM), an implementation of the SLM system, results in both high flux and stability compared to SLM. Finally, possible large scale applications of SLMs are also reviewed, evidencing that if the LM separation process is opportunely carried out (no production of byproducts), it can be considered as a green process.

초전도 HGMS를 이용한 열연 냉각수의 자기분리 연구 (Study on Magnetic Separation of Hot Roller coolant by Using Superconducting HGMS)

  • It needs several large reservoirs and long time to remove suspended solid like steel fines and iron oxide in hot rolling coolant. If removing rate of suspended solid in rolling coolant is improved by using high gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) system, the productivity of working process can be increased and the area of reservoir can be reduced. Pre-treatment process that react magnetic floc with inorganic and organic flocculant in coolant was studied. Horizontal type superconducting HGMS system was manufactured successfully, which was constituted with automatic filter transportation apparatus, 6 T He-free superconducting magnet system and water circulation system. The solid suspension removal ratio in hot rolling coolant was increased by flocculation with inorganic and organic flocculant.

유기고분자로 표면 개질 된 입상활성탄을 이용한 프러시안 블루 고정화 및 Cs+ 제거 (Covalent organic polymer grafted on granular activated carbon surface to immobilize Prussian blue for Cs+ removal)

  • Prussian blue is known as a superior material for selective adsorption of radioactive cesium ions; however, the separation of Prussian blue from aqueous suspension, due to particle size of around several tens of nanometers, is a hurdle that must be overcome. Therefore, this study aims to develop granule type adsorbent material containing Prussian blue in order to selectively adsorb and remove radioactive cesium in water. The surface of granular activated carbon was grafted using a covalent organic polymer (COP-19) in order to enhance Prussian blue immobilization. To maximize the degree of immobilization and minimize subsequent detachment of Prussian blue, several immobilization pathways were evaluated. As a result, the highest cesium adsorption performance was achieved when Prussian blue was synthesized in-situ without solid-liquid separation step during synthesis. The sample obtained under optimal conditions was further analyzed by scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive spectrometry, and it was confirmed that Prussian blue, which is about 9.7% of the total weight, was fixed on the surface of the activated carbon; this level of fixing represented a two-fold improvement compared to before COP-19 modification. In addition, an elution test was carried out to evaluate the stability of Prussian blue. Leaching of Prussian blue and cesium decreased by 1/2 and 1/3, respectively, compared to those levels before modification, showing increased stability due to COP-19 grafting. The Prussian blue based adsorbent material developed in this study is expected to be useful as a decontamination material to mitigate the release of radioactive materials.

조류와 유기화합물의 동시제거를 위한 흡착 - DAF 복합공정 (Adsorption-DAF Hybrid Process for the Simultaneous Removal of Algae and Organic Compounds)

  • Dissolved air flotation (DAF) is an effective solid/liquid separation process for low density floc particles such as algal, color-alum and clay-alum flocs produced from low turbidity water. The removal of taste and odor-causing organics (2-mthylisoboneol and geosmin) originating from algae in drinking water is a local and worldwide concern. Although DAF has been effectively applied for the removal of suspended solid, its application for the treatment of dissolved organic carbon is very limited. In this study, a new hybrid system consisting of adsorption and DAF processes was introduced for the simultaneous removal of algae and taste and odor-causing organics. Powdered activated carbon (PAC) was used as an adsorbent. In this proposed system, the major concern of eliminating the spent PAC from the system was also addressed. It was found that zeta potential of algae and PAC was increased with coagulant dosage, and the removal efficiency in DAF was also enhanced up to 90~95% under the given experimental conditions. Based on this study, the hybrid process was found to be a promising technology for the simultaneous removal of algae and dissolved organic pollutants.

에틸아세테이트 생산 공정의 탈수를 위한 NaY 제올라이트 분리막 투과증발 (NaY Zeolite Membrane Pervaporation for Dehydration from Ethylacetate Manufacturing Process)

  • 에틸아세테이트를 생산하는 에스테르화 공정에서 부산물로 생성되는 물을 NaY 제올라이트 분리막 투과증발을 이용하여 선택적으로 분리하고자 하였다. 에스테르 반응 분리 공정에서 나타날 수 있는 이성분계 혼합물 및 삼성분계 혼합물로부터 물을 분리하였으며 공급되는 유기물의 농도 및 투과증발 실험 온도의 변화가 투과플럭스와 물 선택도에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 물/에틸아세테이트 혼합물의 투과증발 결과 실험 농도 및 온도에 따라 NaY 제올라이트 분리막은 $930-5,000g/m^2/hr$의 총투과플럭스와 3,700-8,000의 물 선택도를 나타내었다. 물/에탄올/에틸아세테이트 삼중공비물의 경우 $1,300-3,900g/m^2/hr$의 총투과플럭스와 530-1,600의 물 선택도를 나타내었다. 본 연구를 통하여 합성된 NaY 제올라이트 분리막은 물에 대해 매우 높은 선택도와 투과플럭스를 나타내므로 에스테르화 반응 공정에 분리막 투과증발 공정을 적용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

고온 수전해 전해질 막의 열안정화 특성 고찰 (The thermal stabilization characteristics of electrolyte membrane in high temperature electrolysis[HTE])

  • Added ratio of 8YSZ powder and organic compounds (solvent, plasticizer, dispersant, binder) properly. It manufactured electrolysis membrane by wet process that make slurry and dry process that do not use organic compounds. In the case of wet process, harmony combination and method of organic compound are an importance element in slurry manufacture. This slurry did calcine at temperature of 140$^{\circ}C$ in Furnace and manufactured electrolyte disk by Dry pressing method. Like this, manufacturing disk sintered at temperature of $1300^{\circ}C,\;1400^{\circ},\;1500^{\circ}C$ in Furnace and completed electrolysis membrane. Confirmed change of crystal structure and decision form through analysis of density, SEM, XRD according to change of sintering temperature, and considered relation with ion conductivity.
