  • According to traffic accidents statistics, the number of fatalities, injuries and the rate of increase of traffic accidents have been decreasing over last 5-years. The fatality rate is 1.9 for total accidents but the fatality rate for single vehicle accidents shows a 7.9, which is 4 times greater than the average for all accidents. Single vehicle accidents, usually occur as a vehicle impacts a fixed objects on the roadside as the vehicle runs-off from the road. However, few researches have been conducted considering the accident severity of single vehicle accidents which impact to the fixed objects on the road. The single vehicle accident is directly related to the composition of road cross section, (since it is the required the minimum width of a road for all run-off-the-road vehicles to recover or come to a safe stop). Therefore, this study analyzes the influence of road cross section on traffic accidents to find out the severity of single vehicle accident. To analyze the road elements which are related to the accident severity, the Ordered Probit Model was used. As variables, the element of road cross section such as the radius(m), vertical curve(%), cross sectional grade(%), road width(m). number of climbing lane, median, and curb, were used (as was the 3-years of accidents data). This study found out that cross slope(%), road width(m), and the number of climbing lane are related to the severity of accident. The result of this study could be expected to improve the road safety and to be used as the base data for further road safety research.

  • PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to identify the factors affecting the effectiveness of speed limit change that is defined as the amount of increased travel speed. METHODS : A ordered logit model was adopted to analyze the relationship between the change in travel speed and contributing factors. A stretch of Kyungbu freeway was selected for the analysis because the Korea expressway corporation has raised speed limit from 100km/h to 110km/h since September 1st in 2010. RESULTS : The results showed that geometric design elements, speeding cameras, and section length were identified as factors contributing the effectiveness. Contributing geometric design elements include the number of horizontal curves and vertical curves that do not meet the design requirement with 110km/h speed limit. CONCLUSIONS : The outcome of this study will be used for establishing various traffic operations and control strategies for freeway speed management.

  • Let [$n$] = {1, 2, ${\ldots}$, $n$} be ordered in the standard way. The order-preserving full transformation semigroup ${\mathcal{O}}_n$ is the set of all order-preserving singular full transformations on [$n$] under composition. For this semigroup we describe maximal subsemibands, maximal regular subsemibands, locally maximal regular subsemibands, and completely obtain their classification.

  • In this paper, field application of mass concrete using setting time difference of super retarding agent is reported to reduce hydration heat of concrete placed at newly constructed apartment house in Busan. Horizontal placing lift is applied. According to test results. slump and air content meets the requirement of target values. For compressive strength, it exceeds the nominal strength ordered by the costumer. Compressive strength of concrete cured in place is achieved more than the values of nominal strength at l4days. For temperature history, maximum temperature of center at top section shows 58.5$^{\circ}C$, and at bottom section, 62.6$^{\circ}C$. According to naked eye's investigation, no hydration heat crack is observed at the surface of concrete.

Horizontal placing lift is applied. According to test results,: slump and air content meets the requirement of target values. For compressive strength, it exceeds the nominal strength ordered by the costumer. For temperature history, maximum temperature of center at top section shows $25.6^{\circ}C$, and at bottom section, $35.4^{\circ}C$. • Recently, the railroad route plan is trying to minimize the damage of the local resident which is caused by railroad construction. For this reason, reducing the banking height of soil roadbed, lowering the bridge girder height of a solid intersection and a part of cross river, the through bridge type which can achieve a required span length must apply. The representative through bridges of railroad are arch bridges, truss bridges and plate girder bridges, the through plate girder bridge of variable section can apply that the span length of these bridges is about $30{\sim}50m$, namely, middle span length bridge types, and that can satisfy structural capacity and beauty of railroad at the same time. This paper introduces plan and design process of the Su-eo cheon bridge applied by a through plate girder bridge type of the Jinju-Gwangyang double track 6th construction ordered at Korea Rail network Authority in 2005.

  • The main causes of traffic accidents can be classified by 3 factors - human error, vehicle deficiency and road environmental problem and most accidents occurs not only 1 factor but combination of 2 or 3-factors. Among these factors, road environmental factor is the most important factor due to influence the behavior of cars and road users and road environmental factor affects 30% of total accidents approximately. The 5 years traffic accidents data analyzed to verify the accidents severity on Korea National Highways. In order to analyze the severity, Ordered Probit Model was used. As a independent variables of this model the number of lane, neighbor road environments, sight distance, vertical grade, lane width, shoulder width and traffic volume were used and as a dependent variables the minor injuries, serious injuries and fatalities were used. Research results shows that sight distance and lane width are identified as significant factors for the traffic accident severity and lesser sight distance and lane width shows greater traffic accident severity.

  • Highly ordered $SnO_2$ and NiO nanocolumns have been successfully achieved by glancing-angle deposition (GLAD) using an electron beam evaporator. Nanocolumnar $SnO_2$ and NiO sensors exhibited high performance owing to the porous nanostructural effect with the formation of a double Schottky junction and high surface-to-volume ratios. When all gas sensors were exposed to various gases such as $C_2H_5OH$, $C_6H_6$, and $CH_3COCH_3$, the response of the highly ordered $SnO_2$ nanocolumn were over 50 times higher than that of the $SnO_2$ thin film. This work will bring broad interest and create a strong impact in many different fields owing to its particularly simple and reliable fabrication process.

  • PURPOSES: The purposes are to analyze the pedestrian accident severity and to develop the accident models by arterial road function. METHODS: To analyze the accident, count data and ordered logit models are utilized in this study. In pursuing the above, this study uses pedestrian accident data from 2007 to 2011 in Cheongju. RESULTS : The main results are as follows. First, daytime, Tue.Wed.Thu., over-speeding, male pedestrian over 65 old are selected as the independent variables to increase pedestrian accident severity. Second, as the accident models of main and minor arterial roads, the negative binomial models are developed, which are analyzed to be statistically significant. Third, such the main variables related to pedestrian accidents as traffic and pedestrian volume, road width, number of exit/entry are adopted in the models. Finally, Such the policy guidelines as the installation of pedestrian fence, speed hump and crosswalks with pedestrian refuge area, designated pedestrian zone, and others are suggested for accident reduction. CONCLUSIONS: This study analyzed the pedestrian accident severity, and developed the negative binomial accident models. The results of this study expected to give some implications to the pedestrian safety improvement in Cheongju.
