Shoot blight was occurring on shoots of suckers of common lilac (Syringa vulgaris L.) growing in first author's apartment garden in May 2003. A species of Phytophthora was isolated from the lesions. The isolate did not sporulate on agar media but formed sporangia in water and also formed sex organs in single culture. Sporangia were semipapillate, ovoid obpyriform, measured 45.6-52.8 ${\times}$ 33.6-36.0$\mu\textrm{m}$. Sporagia were very variable in shape. Optimum temperature for mycelial growth was 25$^{\circ}C$. Oogonia were spherical and antheridia were paragynous. Optimum temp for mycelial growth was 25$^{\circ}C$. The isolate was identified as Phytopkhora citricola on the basis of the morphological characteristics and cardinal temperature.
Purpose: The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the change in the temperature of the adhesive resin in polycrystalline ceramic brackets irradiated using a diode laser at different irradiation energy levels and times. Materials and Methods: For the measurement of the temperature of the adhesive resin, it was applied at the base of the ceramic bracket, a thermocouple was placed at the center of the base surface, the bracket was placed on prepared resin specimens for light curing, and a laser was irradiated to the center of the bracket slot at 5, 7, and 10 W. For the measurement of the temperatures of the enamel under the bracket and pulp cavity, extracted premolar was fixed to a prepared mold and the ceramic bracket was bonded to the buccal surface of the premolar. The Kruskal-Wallis H test and Friedman test were used for statistical analysis. Result: At 5 W, the temperature of the adhesive resin did not reach the resin softening temperature of 200℃ within 30 seconds. At 7 W, it reached 200℃ when the ceramic bracket was irradiated continuously for 28 seconds. At 10 W, it reached 200℃ when the ceramic bracket was irradiated continuously for 15 seconds. During laser irradiation, the temperature of the enamel under the bracket increased by over 5℃ within 15 seconds. Conclusion: The use of diode laser irradiation for bracket debonding should be carefully considered because the pulp cavity temperature increases by over 5℃ within the irradiation time for resin thermal softening.
The effects of thermocycling procedure and material shade on the mechanical properties and wear resistance of resin-based dental restorative materials are investigated. The modulus of elasticity, hardness, plasticity index and wear resistance are determined for the conventional composite, the nanohybrid composite and the nanofilled dental composites. Disc-shape samples are prepared from each material to investigate the effects of thermocycling procedure on the mechanical properties and wear resistance of different types of dental restorative materials. In this respect, a group of samples is thermocycled and the other group is stored in ambient conditions. Then nano-indentation and nano-scratch tests are performed on the samples to measure their mechanical properties and wear resistance. Results show that the A1E shade of the dental nanocomposite possesses higher modulus of elasticity and hardness values compared to the two other shades. According to the experimental results, the mean values for the modulus of elasticity and hardness of the A1E shade of the nanocomposite are 13.71 GPa and 1.08 GPa, respectively. The modulus of elasticity and hardness of the conventional dental composite increase around 30 percent in the oral environment due to the moisture and temperature changes. The wear resistance of the dental composites is also significantly affected by moisture and temperature changes in the oral conditions. It is observed that thermocycling has no significant effect on the hardness, plasticity index and wear resistance of the nanohybrid composite and the nanocomposite dental materials.
This study was conducted to investigate the pathogenicity of Paenibacillus (R) polymyxa JB 115 and single oral dose toxicity of culture broth containing (${\beta}$-glucan (CBG-JB 115) produced from P. polymyxa JB 115 in Sprague-Dawely rats of both sexes for 14 days. After oral administration of P. polymyxa JB 115 into rats, we could not find any abnormal clinical signs and variation in the body weight and temperature as compared with control group. We also investigated the acute toxicity of CBG-JB 115. As the results, there were no clinical signs and variance in the body weight and temperature related with CBG-JB 115 in comparison with the control group. From the this experiment, we could not find out any significant pathogenicity and toxicity induced by P. polymyxa JB 115 or by CBG-JB 115. Results of this study demonstrated that consumption of P. polymyxa JB 115 and its culture broth containing (${\beta}$-glucan was not associated with any obvious signs of toxicity in Sprague-Dawely rats even following consumption of large quantities.
Objectives: This study was aimed to report changes in clinical symptoms and signs after treatment with Korean medicine in patients who suffered from calf edema due to deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Methods: A 46-year-old male patient, who discharged home after receiving standardized treatment for acute DVT in the right leg, suffered pain and heat sense due to edema of the affected calf. Oral administration of herbal medicine (Gyejibongnyeong-hwan 4 g, twice daily) and acupuncture therapy were given to him for 6 weeks. The change in chief complaints, Villalta score, the right and left side difference of the circumference and the skin surface temperature of both calves, and blood level of D-dimer were observed before and after treatment. Results: The patient's chief complaints began to significantly improve from 2 weeks after treatment, and disappeared completely within 4 weeks. At the end of the treatment, a substantial decrease in the difference between the right and left calves in the circumference and skin surface temperature was observed. This effect was maintained even at the time of follow-up 3 months after the end of treatment, and the patient completely recovered indoor and outdoor life to the level before onset. Conclusions: This case suggests that Korean medicine treatment, including Gyejibongnyeong-hwan administration and acupuncture therapy, can be a viable option to improve edema and related clinical problems in the affected limbs due to DVT.
The odor theory(氣味論) has been defined as the Nature(氣) and the Taste(味) of traditional herbal medicine to find the logic in treatment of various diseases by them. There is a strong possibility these Natures of the drug can be categorized according to yin(陰) and yang(陽). To understand the Hot and the Cold Natures of traditional herbal drugs in scientific approaches, changes in skin, rectal temperature of rats have been measured at 0, 30, 60, 90 min after a 5, 10, 20g/Kg oral administration each of Coptidis Rizoma(Ranunculaceae, Coptis chinesis, $F_{RANCH}$), Aconiti Lateralis Preparata Radix(Ranunculaceae, Aconitum carmichaeli $D_{EBX}$). From this study, we obtained as follows. 1. We can categorize the four Natures of drug according to yin(陰) - Cool and Cold Natures and yang(陽) - Warm and Hot Natures. 2. The relation between the four Natures of drug and the changes of body temperature can be studied as the considertion of the dosage and the preparation of crude medicines. 3. Herbs containing toxicant should be studied carefully without the side effects.

The purpose of this study was to investigate $2^{nd} $nanotube formed surface observation of the Ti-25Ta-xZr alloys using ATO(anodic titanium oxide) technique. Ti-25Ta-xZr alloy was anodized in 1M $H_3PO_4$ electrolytes containing 0.8 Wt. % NaF at room temperature. After formation of nanotube was achieved out, nanotube was eliminated, and then anodization was carried out repeatedly. The microstructures, phase transformation, and morphology of nanotubular Ti-25Ta-xZr alloys and process of nanotube growth by using ATO method was examined by optical microscopy (OM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The ${\alpha}$ phase and ${\beta}$ phases were affected to form the second nanotube morphology of Ti-25Ta-xZr alloys.
Background and Objectives : LED(Light emitting diode) is recently introduced as a energy-saving light source in many area including agriculture and environment. In medical field it is known as bright and safe light source in surgical lighting including headlight. This study is aimed to test effectiveness and cost-saving of mountain-climbing headlight in comparison with xenon headlight. Materials and Methods : Internet market-available mountain-climbing headlight was compared with medical xenon headlight regarding heat generation after 30 minutes' usage, intensity of illumination and possible burn to the perioral skin. To get temperature data, 5 cases of tonsillectomy were done with the aid of LED headlight, while another 5 tonsillectomies were done using xenon headlight. Results : The temperatures of all light sources were below 45 degrees Celcius until finish of the surgery without burn or complications. No differences in operation time with both headlights. The maximal intensities of illumination were 24000 Lux for xenon, 20000 Lux for LED. Conclusion : Mountain-climbing headlight could be safe and helpful light source with low cost in simple oral surgery.

LB71350 is an HIV protease inhibitor with poor aqueous solubility and extensive first pass effect. The purpose of the present study was to test the feasibility of solid dosage form of LB71350 with improved bioavailability utilizing solid dispersion. Three different compositions with varying ratio of (LB71350: Gelucire 44/14: Tween 20) were studied. Capsule filling of these solid dispersion compositions was tested using a semi-automatic capsule filling system. Oral bioavailability in dog was tested. Chemical and physical stability at 4, 25 and $40^{\circ}C$ was monitored by HPLC assay, dissolution test, powder XRD and microscopy. The capsule filling system yielded uniform products of drug loading up to 10%. Oral bioavailability in dog was improved compared to the aqueous suspension of crystalline LB71350. Capsules were chemically stable for up to 6 months at $40^{\circ}C$. However, there were temperature and composition dependent physical changes. Decrease in dissolution rates after storage at $40^{\circ}C$ was due to the polymorphic change. In conclusion, manufacturing process, bioavailability, and physico-chemical stability have been considered to propose a solid dispersion capsule formulation for the HIV protease inhibitor with poor physico-chemical properties. A new less soluble crystalline form identified during the physical stability test warrants further study.
Objectives: This study investigated the effects of water extract of Aconitum carmichaeli Debx (ACD) on obesity and glucose tolerance in high fat diet induced obese mice. Methods: Five-week-old C5BL/6 mice were fed a high fat diet (HFD) containing or not containing ACD (100 or 300 mg/kg) for 16 weeks. Body weight, food intake, fasting blood glucose, and body temperature were checked every week and then organs, blood serums were collected after 16-week treatment. Furthermore oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was carried out after treatment. Results: ACD treated mice showed no significant decreases in body weight and adipose tissue weight as compared with HFD mice. Lipid accumulations in liver and serum lipid levels were not different between ACD treated and HFD mice. However, ACD extract administration significantly and dose-dependently reduced fasted plasma glucose and glucose tolerance as determined by OGTT. Conclusions: The present study demonstrates that ACD might prevent diet-induced glucose tolerance in mouse models of obesity.
