지역사회 구강보건프로그램이 아동의 구강건강관리 행태 변화에 미치는 영향 (The influence of community oral hygiene promotion program on oral hygiene practice behavior in children)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the influence of community oral hygiene program on oral hygiene practice behavior in children. Methods: Oral hygiene promotion program was performed in 23 community child centers in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggido. The study analyzed the effect of community oral hygiene promotion programs on the oral hygiene practice behavior in children from September to December, 2014. The trained dental hygienists in 23 public health centers and dental hygiene students participated in the oral hygiene promotion program for oral health examination and education for the children. The contents of the program was standardized and instructed to the team members. The individual improvement in children oral hygiene practice was assessed using PHP(patient hygiene performance) index score. Data were analyzed using SPSS 12.0 program. Results: After the program, children who stopped eating confectioneries and those eating once a day increased to 32.12% and 14.24%, respectively. Those eating more than four times a day were still high(32.44%), but it was a lower rate than before the program (p<0.001). The rate of toothbrushing of more than 2 to 3 times a day was 82.75% and it was higher than before the education (p<0.001). The knowledge level of children increased from 18.83% to 66.30%. The oral hygiene practice performance in children was highly improved. Conclusions: The four months duration of oral hygiene program remarkably improved the oral hygiene practice in the children. So the community health centers and welfare centers must cooperate and improve the children oral health promotion by developing the oral health promotion program.

치위생과 학생의 임상실습 내용과 만족도 분석 (Analysis on the contents and satisfaction level of the dental hygiene students' Clinical Practice)

  • Objectives : This research identified the frequency and satisfaction level of the observation and performance practice during the clinical practice process conducted by dental hygiene students. With the goal of providing base data required for the development and operation of increasingly effective clinical practice program and for the improvement of the existing clinical practice training. Methods : The subjects in this study were 278 students of a university located in Masan. Survey comprised of 49 questions in 10 clinical practice domains was conducted. Results : 1. As for the observation practice by each grade, there was significant difference in oral radiology, pediatric dentistry, periodontology, oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the performance practice executed for each grade, there was significant difference in the oral radiology, preventive dentistry and oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the satisfaction level for each grade, there was significant difference in basic medical service(p<0.05). 2. As for the observation practice by each clinical practice institution, there was significant difference in oral medicine, oral radiology, preventive dentistry, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics and oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the performance practice executed by each practice institution, there was significant difference in basic medical service, oral medicine, oral radiology, operative dentistry, prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the satisfaction level by each practice institution, there was significant difference in the oral radiology, preventive dentistry, operative dentistry, prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery(p<0.05). Conclusions : As for the satisfaction level for the clinical practice, basic medical service is the crimary care clinical practice which is most basic and that is executed the most in a dental clinic. Satisfaction level was the highest in the domains where there were extensive observation and practice frequency. By conducting observation and practice frequency in the clinical practice process by each clinical practice domain in a broad and diverse manner, it would be possible to improve the ability of the clinical practice trainees who improve their clinical work execution capability and satisfaction level on the clinical practice.

치위생과 실습실 내원환자의 구강위생보조용품 사용유무와 구강건강상태와의 관계 (A study on the practice application of oral hygiene auxiliary supplies and oral health status ofpatients in 'S' university dental clinic)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among the practice application of oral hygiene auxiliary supplies, oral health state of patients in S university dental clinic. Methods : The subject in this were 261 patients who got a scaling at the oral hygiene practice lab in the department of dental hygiene in S university dental clinic from April 1 to May 31, 2010. For the data analysis, an SPSS WIN 11.5 program was used and its signification level was 0.05. Results : 1. For the oral health state according to sex distinction, it showed the men's 0.78 MT index was higher than women's 0.48 MT index and statistically significant difference. 2. For FT index, women(4.72) was higher than men(3.50) and it showed statistically significant difference(p<0.05). 3. For the oral health state according to sex distinction, Why not use oral hygiene auxiliary supplies showed statistically significant difference(p<0.05). 4. For the practice application of oral hygiene auxiliary supplies according to age distinction, 18.5% more than 30 years replied as I use interdental brush and it showed statistically significant difference. 18.5% more than 30 years replied as I use powered brush and it showed statistically significant difference(p<0.05). 5. For the oral health state according to the practice application of oral hygiene auxiliary supplies distinction, there were significant difference that dental floss, interdental brush, mouth rinse product, Why not use oral hygiene auxiliary supplies(p<0.05). Conclusions : The findings of this study were lower than the utilization of oral hygiene auxiliary supplies. Therefore, to increase the use of oral hygiene auxiliary supplies to patients of the appropriate selection and correct usage of oral hygiene auxiliary supplies and the resulting effects have sufficient training to practice more efficiently should be.

고등학생의 삶의 만족도와 구강건강실천과의 연관성 (Relationship between life satisfaction and oral health practice in high school students)

  • Objectives : The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between the life satisfaction of high school students and their oral health practice and to provide the right method of oral health maintenance. Methods : The subjects were 307 high school students in Chungcheongnam-do. A self-reported questionnaire was filled out from May 13 to 28, 2013. The questionnaire included life satisfaction and oral health practice. Data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0. Results : A frequent visit to dental clinic improved the quality of oral health in high school students by way of toothbrushing, use of dental hygiene devices, and diet control. Conclusions : It is very important to practice continuing oral health education in high school students by dental hygienists.

치위생과 학생의 임상실습 교육 실태에 관한 조사연구 (The status of clinical practice for students in the department of dental hygiene)

  • The number of dental hygiene students is increasing as dental hygiene departments are extended or newly installed continuously, and in other to keep up with the quantitative increase, we need to standardize dental hygiene curriculums. The present study conducted a questionnaire survey with dental hygiene students who had completed clinical practice. The obtained results as follows. 1. According to the contents of clinical practice at dental clinics, the frequency of dental hygiene students' observation practice was high in basic medical service, dental prosthesis, and orthodontics. 2. The frequency of performance practice was high in basic medical service, oral medicine, preventive dentistry, pediatric dentistry, periodontology, and oral surgery. According to the area of clinical practice. 3. According to the contents of clinical practice at university hospitals, the frequency of dental hygiene students' observation practice was high in basic medical service, dental prosthesis, and orthodontics. 4. The frequency of performance practice was high in basic medical service, oral medicine, preventive dentistry, pediatric dentistry, periodontology, and dental prosthesis. 5. The students' satisfaction was high in basic medical service, oral medicine, preventive dentistry, and periodontology. The period of clinical practice varies according to school curriculum and circumstance among dental clinics and university hospitals where clinical practices are performed, students' satisfaction with their observation practice and performance practice may be different. Thus, for dental hygiene students' clinical practice, it is considered desirable to prepare integrated education programs that standardize the period and contents of clinical practice.

치위생과 학생과 일반 대학생들의 구강보건실천에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Influential Factors for the Oral Health practice of Dental Hygiene Students and Non-Dental Hygiene Students)

  • 본 연구는 치위생과 학생과 일반 대학생들과의 비교분석을 통해 구강보건교육의 중요성을 알아봄으로써, 현재 구강보건관리를 책임지고 있는 인력들에게 시사점을 제공하고자 연구되어 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 대학생들이 인지, 자각하고 있는 구강건강 특성을 살펴본 결과, 구강건강에 대한 관심(p<0.001), 구강건강의 중요도(p<0.01), 현재 학생들이 지각하는 구강건강 상태(p<0.01) 등의 모든 요인에서 치위생과 학생이 일반 학생들 보다 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 구강보건인식 수준은 치위생과 학생이 $4.41{\pm}0.62$점으로 일반 학생 $3.81{\pm}0.70$점보다 유의하게 높게 나타났으며(p<0.001), 구강보건실천 수준 역시 치위생과 학생이 $3.80{\pm}0.61$점으로 일반 학생 $3.33{\pm}0.57$점보다 유의하게 높게 나타났다(p<0.001). 이상의 결과에서 구강보건교육을 받은 경험이 있는 경우 구강보건인식과 실천 수준이 높고, 구강보건인식 수준이 증가할수록 구강보건실천 수준이 높아지는 것으로 나타나 대학생 시기에 적절한 구강보건교육이 실시되어야 할 것으로 생각된다.

일부 대학 치위생학과의 치과임상실무 관련 교육과정 운영현황 (Current status of dental hygiene curriculum related to clinical practice for dental hygienists in some universities)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of dental hygiene curricula related to clinical practice in Korea. Methods: Clinical work included the categories 'history taking, infection control, oral prophylaxis, preventive treatment, education/counseling, radiography/reading, assisting/cooperation, impression/bite registration, anesthesia, etc.', and 66 works were finally selected based on the frequent tasks of dental hygienists. The subjects were made to answer nine questionnaires. Results: It was found that the theory and practice of the main works operated quite differently in lectures and practice in each school. All types of practice were applied to all schools in the case of 'scaling'. The evaluation of clinical practice was also found to be very different from school to school. Conclusions: For dental hygienists to establish expertise in clinical practice and promote quality improvement, it is necessary to develop a core curriculum focusing on clinical practice. The standardized curriculum should be improved to an efficient and competency-centered one defining clearly the role of dental hygienists considering the needs and importance of clinical practice.

건강도시로 지정된 창원시 일부 초등학교 고학년 학생의 구강보건 지식과 실천 (Oral health knowledge and practice of school children in the upper grades in a WHO healthy city, Changwon)

  • Obiectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health knowledge and practice of elementary school children in the upper grades in a WHO healthy city for the development of oral health education programs gearing toward improving oral health care habits and oral health. The subjects in this study were 379 sixth-grade children in an elementary school in a WHO healthy city, Changwon. Methods : The questionnaire used in the study covered general characteristics with five items, oral health knowledge with 35 items and oral health care practices with 24 items. The oral health knowledge category consisted of general oral health knowledge with 13 items, knowledge on oral hygiene management with 11 items, knowledge on fluoride use with 8 items and healthy diet knowledge with 3 items. The oral health care practice category consisted of general oral health care practice with six items, practice on oral hygiene management with 11 items, practice related to fluoride use with four items, and healthy diet practice with 3 items. Results : The surveyed school children got a mean of 46.1 and 40.8 on oral health knowledge and oral health care practices, respectively out of 100 points. In the knowledge category, they scored the lowest on healthy diet knowledge with 12.6, and in the practice category, they scores the lowest on the practices related to fluoride use with 21.4. According to the regression analysis, gender had a significant impact on their oral health knowledge. The boys lagged behind the girls in that regard. Their oral health care practices were under the significant influence of knowledge level. Conclusions : Systematic education programs should be provided to prevent dental caries and promote oral health of school children, and the type of programs that stress actual oral health care is especially important.

일부 지역 임산부의 구강보건관리에 대한 인식 및 실천에 관한 연구 (A study on the awareness and practice of the pregnant women about oral health care)

  • The purpose of this study examines the level of awareness and practice for the oral health care of the pregnant women, finding problems and proposing the problem point regarding hereupon and an improvement point by analyzing the result. Data for this study are collected by the questionnaire method from pregnant women who attend gynecology clinic located Gwangju provide for the period between December, 2007 and January, 2008. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The experience of oral health education for pregnant women were 'none' 94.8%, 'yes' 5.2%, the majority no received oral health education. 2. The awareness score of dietary treatment was 34.09 and practice score was 29.73, the awareness score of periodontitis prevention was 33.31 and practice score was 29.04. The awareness score of subsidiary oral hygiene articles was 32.19, practice score was 17.95. The awareness score was higher than practice score. 3. The relationship between the awareness and practice of oral health care was positively correlated: dietary treatment(r=0.483, p<0.01), periodontitis prevention (r=0.531, p<0.01), subsidiary oral hygiene articles (r=0.515, p<0.01), oral health care (r=0.531, p<0.01). Conclusion of these survey showed that it is crucial to increase the level of practice of oral health care. It is also necessarily to increase the level of awareness of the oral health care.

일부 특수학교 교사의 구강보건지식, 실천 및 인식도 조사 (Knowledge, practice, and awareness toward oral health in the special school teachers)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the knowledge, practice, and awareness toward oral health in the special school teachers. Methods : A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 133 teachers in special education schools in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Chungbuk, and Jeonbuk. Data were analyzed using the statistical package SPSS WIN 12.0 for frequency, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test(post hoc test), and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results : In oral health knowledge, the average score of female teachers was 8.31 in comparison to 7.75 in male teachers(p<.05). In oral health practice, the average score of female teachers was 3.71 and that of male teachers was 3.69. In oral health awareness, the average score of female teachers was 4.12 and male teachers had 3.93. The teachers in special schools had a close positive correlation between oral health awareness and practice(r=.448, p<.05). Conclusions : The teachers tended to have better knowledge of oral health but they did not practice the oral health behavior. The teachers have the important role in oral health management for the disabled children by providing the right toothbrushing method.
