Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of implant wearers about periodontal diseases and implant management, which were closely linked to implant durability, in an effort to obtain information on the right directions for oral health education related to implant self-care and specialized care. Methods : The subjects in this study were 217 patients who wore implant and visited 14 different dental hospitals and clinics in the metropolitan area. After a questioaire survey was conducted and collected data were analyed by the statistical package SPSS 18.0. Results : As for the awareness of the subjects on the regeneration of alveolar ridge by general characteristics, there were statistically significant intergroup gaps according to the number of possessed implant, implant satisfaction and subjective gingival health status(p<0.05). Regarding their awareness of implant durability by general characteristics, there were statistically significant gaps according to the number of possessed implant and oral health education experience(p<0.05). Concerning their awareness of the cycle of regular implant checkup by general characteristics, there were statistically significant gaps according to occupation, subjective gingival health status and oral health education experience(p<0.05). Conclusions : The above-mentioned findings suggest that in order to ensure the long-term safe maintenance of implant, the way of looking at periodontal diseases and implant management should be changed. Specifically, more intensive oral health education should be provided for implant wearers to be aware of the importance of self-care and specialized care to change their oral health behavior, and clinical dental hygienists should improve their role performance to make it happen.

This study was conducted on industrial workers to develop an integrated health promotion program on chronic disease and oral health, and to provide basic data for an effective management plan by conducting comparison analysis of periodontal health status based on the findings of hypertension and diabetes disease, and by understanding of influencing factors on periodontal health status. And the study was conducted on 4,600 workers in certain areas from March 22, 2010 to June 18, 2010. The results of the study indicates significant difference by having high plaque and gingivitis ratio in the people who had the findings of hypertension and having high plaque ratio in the people who had the findings of diabetes disease. Regarding the influences on periodontal health status, gender, age, whether the subject visited a dental hospital, whether the subject had scaling treatment, smoking, and hypertension had influenced gingivitis. And gender, age, whether the subject visited a dental hospital, whether the subject had scaling treatment, smoking, and hypertension had influenced plaque. And the aforementioned 2 groups had statistically significant difference, and the conclusion is established that metabolic syndrome which is measured during the health exam of workers is an important disease potentially threatening the health of workers and also highly related to oral health.
Objectives : The aims of the study were to examine perceived oral malodor and self-reported need for oral and dental care among patients receiving oral prophylaxis services and provide guidelines for developing educational programs(toothbrushing method and tongue cleaning) for oral hygiene and oral malodor prevention. Methods : The survey was administered to a sample of 462 receiving voluntary oral prophylaxis service in a dental laboratory at the J School of Public Health in Korea. The subjects were asked a range of questions related to the degrees of perceived oral malodor and concern for oral health status, as well as their demographic information and need for oral and dental treatment. Univariate analyses using Chi-square and T-test with a P-value of .05 were performed using SPSS Version 12.0 for Windows. Results : 1. Male participants reported "moderately concerned for bad breath and smell" and "I don't care bad breath and smell" 39.1% and 26.2% respectively, while more female participants were concerned for oral malodor. "moderately concerned for malodor" and" highly concerned for malodor" 41.1% and 28.5%(p<.05). a significant difference among age groups was found. 19% of young adults (less than or equal to 29 years of age) reported "highly concerned for bad breath and smell" while 36.4% of older adults (greater than or equal to 50 years of age) reported "highly concerned for bad breath and smell"(p<.05). 2. 12 non-smoking participants (3.7%) and 15 smoking participants (10.8%) reported that they have perceived bad breadth and smell (p<.05). 3. Smoking participants reported a higher degree of need for oral malodor treatment than that of non-smoking participants 88.5% and 82% respectively(p<.05). 4. The participants who did regular toothbrushing more than 3 times a day reported "no malodor", 77 % as compared to 66.7% of the participants who did regular toothbrushing 2 times a day. Toothbrushing 2 times a day reported either "moderate malodor" or "sever malodor"(p<.01). Participants with more frequent toothbrushing reported less oral and breath odor as compared participants with less frequent toothbrushing. Conclusions : The study suggested that there is a need to oral prophylaxis for prevention and toothbrushing and tongue cleaning method oral malodor care and oral health status.

The objective of this study was to assess oral health status such as prevalence of dental caries, gingivitis and other combined disorder, orofacial dysfunction in patients with cerebral palsy(CP), as well as the state of tooth brushing, possibility of dental treatment. Sixty-six subjects with CP aged 9 to 37 years were included in the study. Clinical caries status(DMFT index) and other data were evaluated and statistically analyzed using SPSS program (SPSS 17.0). The results were as follows: The DMFT index and prevalence of gingivitis of study subjects were 2.82(male), 3.33(female) and 89%, respectively. DMFT index classified into four groups according to age as follows: DMFT index were 1.14(ages 6-11), 1.40(ages 12-14), 2.16(ages 15-24), 4.15(ages 25-37). In addition to the physical disorder, speech difficulty(86%), epilepsy(35%) and visual impairment(14%) were associated and the epilepsy medication was the most common medication. And orofacial dysfunction such as the eating difficulties(79%), drooling(36%), swallowing disorder(30%), breathing difficulty(15%), bruxism(30%) and snoring(33%) was shown. Most people with cerebral palsy can't brush alone and didn't use oral care adjunctive supplies. Moreover, Fifty-nine percent of them were noncooperative to dental treatment.
The purpose of this survey was to evaluate the efficiency on the oral health training of elderly adults who have experienced the oral health training program at welfare institutions in An-yang city, Korea. A total of 451 adults (aged 65 or more) were selected and surveyed by the self-reporting questionnaire that consist of 4 items and socio-economic general characteristics (gender, age). Oral health indices were produced by using the SPSS. Purpose: This study assessed the impact of self-reported periodontal health on the oral health-related quality of life among elderly Koreans. Methods: Four hundred twenty one elderly Koreans in Seoul and suburban areas were selected with a cluster (institution) sampling method, and were requested to take oral examinations and finish questionnaires on the Oral Health Impact Profile-14(OHIP-14). and self-reported periodontal health status, such as periodontal symptoms, self-rated periodontal health and periodontal treatment need. As the dependent variable, OHIP-14 showed a positive skewed distribution (skewness: 1.17), we transformed to square-root form to apply parametric analyses. Bivariate analysis by t-test and ANOVA, and multivariate analysis with the two-level regression model accounting clusters were implemented. Results: Mean age of the subjects was 74.6 years and 66.5% were women. Fourteen items of OHIP-14 were summarized to one factor explaining 78.6% of total variance and produced the Chronbach alpha coefficient of 0.92. Results from the multivariate model, adjusting for age, sex, type of institutions, ability to pay, and number of teeth present, showed significantly lower OHIP-14 with reporting less than 3 periodontal symptoms (p(O.OOO1), rating their own periodontal health as above average level (p=O.0144), and thinking they don't need any periodontal treatments in the near future (p=O.0148), than their counterparts. The intraclass-corrrelation estimated by the final model was 0.028. Conclusion: This study demonstrates a significant association between self-reported periodontal health status and the oral health-related quality of life.
In preparing for the era of Korean reunification, it is essential to consider the integration of medical systems and human resources. While Korean dental practitioners are expanding their activities in various fields both domestically and internationally, there are many restrictions on the activities for improving the health of North Korean people due to political and historical reasons even nowadays. In addition, there is little is known about the current state of dental health in North Korea. We analyzed the reports published by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Public Health of North Korea prepared individually or in cooperation, and investigated the current status of the health care strategy applied to the dental field by conducting a full investigation of the 2018 『Rodong』newspaper. Based on the above, we tried to grasp the major health care strategies in North Korea and their application. Understanding the direction and status of North Korea's health care system would be an important cornerstone for international cooperation and practical activities to improve oral health care of North Koreans in the future. And there is a need that studies should be steadily conducted in various methods to overcome the heterogeneity of the two Koreas in the long-term perspective.
