To identify subjective health status of senior citizens' oral health following senior citizens' general characteristics and knowledge and behavior for the oral hygiene, this research conducted individual interview with 237 senior citizens in some parts of Seoul. The results are as follows. 1. Degree of senior citizens' knowledge on the oral hygiene is about Middle. Among the categories on the senior citizens' knowledge on the oral hygiene, teeth's brushing was the highest while knowledge on fluorine was the lowest. 2. Senior citizens who feel that their oral health is healthy when it comes to the subjective health state of senior citizens' oral health following behavior for the oral hygiene, brush their teeth, three times in a day, for more than three minutes (p<.01). Moreover, senior citizens who feel that their oral health is healthy brush different corners of the tongue when brushing (p<.01). 3. In case of knowledge on the oral hygiene following general characteristics, knowledge on the oral hygiene was higher when economic status was higher (p<.01). In case of living expenses, knowledge on the oral hygiene was higher for the senior citizens with pay or income (p<.01). 4. In case of behavior for the oral hygiene, women tended to act for the oral hygiene more than men. As for the method for raising living expenses, senior citizens who receive basic social security check or those at the highest tier tended to act less for the oral hygiene (p<.01). 5. Senior citizens who answered that their oral health is healthy when it comes to the subjective health state of senior citizens' oral cavity tended to have high knowledge on the oral hygiene (p<.01). In conclusion, subjective health status of senior citizens' oral health is higher when the knowledge on the oral hygiene and behavior for the oral hygiene are higher. Accordingly, it is necessary to develop and execute oral hygiene training program to change senior citizens' behavior incrementally and the dental hygienists who can conduct this training should be actively attracted into the senior citizens' oral hygiene training.
The purpose of this study was to examine whether dating affected young people's concern for their looks and their oral health state, and to motivate students to promote their oral health, as national oral health depended on students who would grow into eligible members of society in the near future. Relevant literature and data were reviewed, and a survey was conducted on residents in and around Seoul, who were in their 20s, for approximately three months from June through August 2006 to find out about their oral health status. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. Whether they were seeing someone or not was investigated, and it's found that 37.5 percent had a girl friend or boy friend, and that 6.7 percent hadn't. 2. Concerning the state of dating, 40.3 percent, the largest percentage, had been dating for less than a year, and the largest number of them that accounted for 23.6 percent had been dating one person till then, 4.0 percent were considering getting married with those whom they were seeing. The most dominant type of love was eros(romantic or ardent love; 41.7%), followed by stroge(friendly love; 33.3%), and agape(altruistic, devoted love; 12.5%). 3. As for the impact of dating on oral health status, those who were seeing someone were similar to those who weren't in toothbrushing frequency, toothbrushing time and simplified oral hygiene index. There was no significant gap between the two. 4. Concerning the influence of dating on dental-treatment experience, no statistically significant intergroup differences were found in experiences of taking dental-caries treatment, bad-breath treatment and teeth-whitening treatment. There was a statistically significant intergroup gap only in scaling experience(pE0.05). 5. Regarding the impact of dating on oral health care, 59.7 percent of those who were dating thought that it affected oral health care, and the same rate of the others who weren't stood at 38.3 percent. There was a statistically significant gap between the two(pE0.01). 6. As to the influence of general characteristics on oral hygiene index, their age and gender made no statistically significant differences to that. By occupation, however, many of the company employees were in good oral health, and many of them were in bad oral health, too. The office workers were statistically significantly different from the others in that regard(pE0.01).
Purpose: This study was conducted to prepare the fundamental data on oral hygiene of the elderly and to assess the behavior of oral hygiene, subjective oral health, oral health problem among the elderly, and to contribute to successful enhancement of life in their declining years. Methods: The author surveyed the behavior of oral hygiene, subjective oral health, oral health problem to 192 elderly at a health center of Busan using structured self- administered questionnaire from Nov. 2nd 2009 to Feb. 10th 2010. Collected data were analysed by SPSS WIN 18.0 statistical program for frequency, percentage production, ${\chi}^2$ (Chi-square) verification, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Logistic Regression. Results: The distribution of total subjects by oral health behaviors were 56.8% for "have ever trained how to tooth brushing", 76.6% for "correctly performed tooth brushing by himself ", 71.8% for "tooth brushing a day is two times and less", 87.5% for "it doesn't tooth brushing in meals and after" and 53.6% for "it doesn't use the facility for oral health", respectively. The distribution of total subjects by the state of perceived oral health were 51.0% for "feel the oral discomfort", 51.6% for "feel the comfortable chewing on starchy food", respectively. The mean point of perceived oral health by general characteristics of total subjects were statistically significant difference in sex, type of medical insurance, smoke, exercise, and chronic disease. The mean point of perceived oral health by oral health behaviors of total subjects were statistically significant difference in educational experience on tooth brushing, recognition for tooth brushing by himself, tooth brushing a day, and tongue cleaning. The risk factors of perceived oral health were type of medical insurance and chronic disease in general characteristics, tooth brushing in meals and after and tooth brushing a day, and tongue cleaning in oral health behaviors. Conclusion: The author recommend to the prevention of chronic disease, carry out the tooth brushing in meals and after, three times and over tooth brushing a day and tongue cleaning for oral health. and the author consider that it need to prepare the active countermeasure to oral health such as reeducation for oral health and supply to the tongue cleaner.

The purpose of this study was to examine the health segment of the 7th national physical education curriculum in an effort to grasp the state of oral health education in the school curriculum. And it's also meant to investigate the relationship between oral health education and the oral health awareness of some high schoolers to check into any possible problems with oral health education as part of health education. The subjects in this study were 240 students from two different girls' high schools in Seoul, on whom a survey was conducted to find out their oral health knowledge, behavior and awareness. And the health category of the current P.E. curriculum announced by the Ministry of Education was analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows: Oral health education provided by the high schools as part of health education in P.E. class wasn't linked to P.E. theories and practice. The weight of oral health education was extremely small in the health segment, and there was no sequence, continuity and integration among the content systems of oral health education for different grades. When some high schoolers were investigated, they weren't properly oral health conscious, though it was very important for students to receive oral health education to prevent and manage dental diseases. And they didn't consequently take care of their own oral health. Future research efforts should be channeled from diverse angles into developing oral health education curriculums to bolster school oral health education to improve national oral health.
Objectives : This study purpose were the effect of toothbrushing for decreasing halitosis for gingivitis and periodontitis patients. Methods : The university staffs were examined oral condition and analysised a change of oral health state score after using 3 types of toothbrushing. Results : The results were as followed : OHI-S shows that the decreasing effect takes place in the M. bass method and Tooth pick method, but shows no differences by each method. GI for Self test method shows decreasing effect after 2nd week during education while the M. bass method and Tooth pick method shows after 1st week during education. The M. bass method shows much greater effect of halitosis amongst 3 kind of method. PI for Self test method and Tooth pick method show decreasing effect. Decreasing effect during education shows until 2nd week by 3 kind of method, but it shows no differences after 3rd week. VSC(ppb) for M. bass method and Tooth pick method show decreasing effect. Decreasing effect during education shows after 3rd week by 3 kind of method, but it shows no differences until 2nd week. PHP for Self test method, M. bass method and Tooth pick method show decreasing effect after 2nd week during education. But, there is no differences of decreasing effect by among 3 kind of method. Conclusions : This study reports that it is necessary to carry outt further studies on the improvement of oral health management of adults based on the development of oral health education.
Objectives : This study had been performed for Respondents who live in Daegu and Kyungbuk province Age group of 30 to 50 years old. Methods : The oral health state and oral heath care, dental treatments about the use of oral hygiene devices were obtained through self-administering questionnaires from 2 to 31, January, 2009. Results : 1. The toothpick was well known for respondents and automatic brush, gargle, dental floss were practically used. 2. 57.1% of man know oral hygiene device, they know more about oral hygiene device if they have higher degree, and they use more if they are older than others. 3. 55.5% of respondents who think their oral health condition is not healthy enough recognize oral hygiene device, 77.5% of respondents who visited dental clinic around six month recognize oral hygiene device. 82.4% of respondents who had been follow-up. 86.1% of respondents who think their oral health state is good enough doesn't use oral hygiene device, oral hygiene device was used more for respondents who visited dental clinic frequently. 47.1% of respondents who visited dental clinic periodically use oral hygiene device. 4. Respondents who experience implant recognize more about oral hygiene device and periodontal Tx, orthodontics problem, preservative treatment were next. 5. 60.0% of respondents who were educated tooth brushing method recognize it. Oral hygiene device was frequently used if tooth brushing time were increased. 26.4% of respondents who were changed their tooth brushing method used oral hygiene device. Conclusions : Their recognition level was practically low whose age is around 30 to 50. Objectives : This study was to examine the state of customized visiting oral health programs in a bid to help facilitate the unified operation of the programs and the development of required guidelines. Methods : The subjects in this study were 49 dental hygienists who were professionals responsible for customized visiting health care programs across the nation. Results : 1. Regarding the form of employment of the dental hygienists were investigated many contract and daily workers. 2. As to the possession of equipment necessary for visiting oral health programs, denture cleaners(12.2%) were most widely possessed in some regions, followed by mobile scalers(10.2%) and mobile suctions(8.2%). In terms of expendable devices and materials, dental mirrors, pincettes and explorers were the most widely possessed dental checkup devices, and the most widely possessed oral hygiene supplies were toothbrushes, interdental brushes and denture cleaners. Those devices and materials were in more possession than the other types of devices and materials. The most widely possessed equipment for educational purpose was laptop computers, followed by beam projectors and screens. The most widely possessed teaching materials were dentiform, followed by CD-ROMs. 3. Those whom they visited the most for oral health care service were elderly people, followed by the disabled and patients with chronic diseases. The dental hygienists who went out to visit those people outnumbered the others who stayed at public health centers. Concerning the types of visiting oral health care service, the most prevalent service provided to the elderly included denture cleaning/management, oral massage and preventive treatment against dental caries. The most dominant service provided to the disabled involved education of the oral health care act, preventive treatment against dental caries and toothbrushing by professionals. The most common service offered to patients with chronic diseases was education of the oral health care act and oral health education. The dental hygienists paid a visit to a mean of 5.8 households a day. The average weekly number of households cared by the dental hygienists was 27.3. It took a mean of 37.1 minutes for them to take care of each household. 4. As for satisfaction level with the implementation of the visiting oral health programs, they expressed the greatest satisfaction at teamwork with professionals($3.56{\pm}0.94$), followed by the professionalism of their work($3.21{\pm}0.94$) and workload($3.08{\pm}0.94$). Their satisfaction level with the work conditions required for creative job performance($2.75{\pm}0.98$) and partnership with other institutions($2.64{\pm}1.03$) was below 3.0. In regard to the impact of their characteristics, marital status made a statistically significant difference to satisfaction level with workload. The unmarried dental hygienists were more pleased with their workload than the married ones(p<0.05). 5. As to needs for education for professionalism improvement, they asked for education about visiting oral health care skills the most, followed by education about oral health care for patients with chronic diseases, education of planning/evaluation and education of oral health care for the disabled. Conclusions : The top priority for the vitalization of the programs was the procurement of budget, followed by the procurement of equipment and educational media and the procurement of human resources.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the self-rated oral health concern of adults over the age of 20 and from all over the country and their subjective oral health symptoms in a bid to provide some information on oral health policy setting for adults. Methods : The subjects in this study were 3,558 adults who voluntarily participated in a survey conducted by this researcher at the website of a company. After their answer sheets were analyzed, the following findings were given: Results : 1. 81 percent replied that they were very concerned about oral health. As to the relationship between their general characteristics and oral health concern, there were statistically significant differences in that regard according to their gender, age, purpose of seeing a dentist and occupation. 2. As for the relationship of their general characteristics to subjective awareness of oral health symptoms, there were statistically significant gaps in that aspect according to their gender, age, purpose of seeing a dentist, occupation and state of smoking. 3. In regard to the relationship between oral health concern and subjective awareness of oral health symptoms, those who were more concerned about oral health felt less subjective oral symptoms, but the difference between them and the others was not significant. The respondents who felt more symptoms of dental caries felt more symptoms of periodontal diseases as well. Conclusions : The above-mentioned findings indicate that in order to help adults promote or maintain their oral health, their concern for oral health should be stimulated by providing them with a lot of diverse information, and it seems that the development of programs that can eliminate their subjective oral symptoms of dental caries and peridontal diseases, the primary causes of tooth dysfunction, is required.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to research and to analyze the relationship between oral health state of infants and oral health awareness of their parents. Methods : The study has been conducted for 196 infants ranging from the age 18 to 60 month and their parents who have visited three dental clinics in Gyeongju city. The questionnaire has been made to identify the parents' oral health knowledge and behavior, while the dentist has examined the dental care, toothbrushing, and malocclusion of infants. Results : According to the results, it has been found out that there is correlation between subject's health status and oral health status where the higher point of subject's health status lead to the point of oral health status accordingly. Also it has been additionally recognized that there is the relationship between the awareness of parents and the oral health status of their infants in the same way. Conclusions : The parents who have low oral health awareness are required by oral health professionals to be provided with information on infant oral health, in order to promote and to maintain healthy oral status of their infants. And the specific training on method how to care oral health is needed. In addition, the government should take the detailed measures by extending infant's medical benefits to draw their attention to the issue.
