Objectives: This study analyzes factors related to English communication skills in the dental health services of clinical dental hygienists who provide dental medical services to foreigners. Methods: Surveys were conducted to measure students' English communication skills. Participants comprised 195 clinical dental hygienists working at dental English study cafes or who provided dental medical services to foreigners. After analyzing the differences in English communication skills, hierarchical multiple regression analysis was performed on the factors related to English communication skills. Results: English communication skill of dental hygienists was 1.96 points out of 5 points. The factors related to the English communication skill of the clinical dental hygienists were foreign patient care, language training experience, overseas living experience, and certified English proficiency. The adjusted explanatory power of this model was 53.0%. Conclusions: Dental hygienists in charge of foreign patients have experience in language training and overseas residence, have a language qualification certificate, and have higher English communication skills. It is necessary to develop English language learning programs based on metaverse to develop the English communication skills of dental hygienists who provide dental health services to foreign patients and to operate a creative educational environment to increase interest in learning English.
The purpose of this study was to develop a dental communication course in dental hygiene schools that included theory, practice, and skill for effective dental communication. Thirty-six senior dental hygiene students in a dental hygiene school took a dental communication course and responded to a questionnaire. The instrument used in the study was a modified form of Kim's communication skill self-assessment sheet. The self-assessment questionnaire about communication competencies was administered before and after the class, and the difference between scores at each time point was analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed rank sum test. Among seven elements of dental communication competencies, the competency of "information gathering" was significantly improved (p=0.008). Students' scores on perception of the importance (p=0.019) and necessity (0.016) of a communication course significantly increased after the course. Competencies in communication are essential requirement for dental hygienists. This study showed the possibility of communication skill training. An objective evaluation tool regarding students' communication competencies should be developed. Further studies with larger samples size are needed to develop a standardized comprehensive communication course in dental hygiene schools.
In this study, diagnosis of the problem of self-directed learning for the improvement of the language, reasoning n eeded for NCOs typical for students currently enrolled as a cadet NCOs and suggested some lessons to improve this model. Proposed presentation, the three curriculum of presentation and discussion related to the configuration intervie w, self-directed learning was to be his students. In one of the ways to solve the problems experienced in a self-pac ed learning learner was used in this process is often the scaffolding system, is shown that can lead to improved abil ity to apply the result of expression of the three class model.
The purpose of this study was to develop and validate tool for measuring the communication skills of dental hygienist. The survey was modified and revised to fit into Korean culture. Also the reliability and validity was tested in order to ensure the survey was properly evaluating communication skills of dental hygienists. A survey was conducted with outpatients in dental clinics located in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Daejeon area. The 483 answers out of the total collected answers were used for the final analysis of the study, using PASW Statistics 18.0 and IBM SPSS AMOS 7.0 to measure the validity and reliability. The factor analysis showed that the communication skill of the dental hygienists was composed of three elements, namely 'being caring and respectful' communications, 'sharing information' communications and 'tending to comfort' communications to reduce pain and anxiety. The validity of the model examined by a confirmatory factor analysis satisfied most of the relevant requirements. All of the factors had the conceptual reliability and variant extracted index above the minimum requirements, ensuring reliability and concentrated validity. Also, the value of the square of the correlations between all latent factors which was larger than the square of the correlation between all of the factors, thus proving the discriment validity. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ was 0.8, which shows high reliability level. In conclusion, it was proven that dental hygienist's communication skill measurement tool has high validity and reliability. Further, this study can be used to improve dental hygienists' communication skills. Therefore, this will improve oral health of clients and manage them.

Problems in feeding habits could affect various aspects of children including growth, learning, communication, interaction with other children, etc. Oral consumption was defined as a participant opening his/her mouth, accepting food/liquid, and swallowing. A goal of the study is to find a method of evaluation and intervention of a child's feeding habits. Feeding is an important component in the early development of children and may have later consequences in the child's ability to participate successfully in their activities of daily life. Children show personal difference on the foods which they try first because stimuli from the foods are revealed as a mealtime behavior through sensory registration and processing. Feeding problems in sensory processing consist of tactile oversensitivity, oral refusal, tactile undersensitivity, and oral dyspraxia. In order to identify problems of sensory processing among feeding difficulties and plan intervention, the understanding of neurological processing and sensory processing characteristics related to feeding is necessary. Reviewing intervention for feeding problems related to sensory processing is required for an effective approach for feeding and providing better life for children.
The ODR can be categorized into four distinctive types. First type is the asynchronous non-demeanour method. Second type is the asynchronous demeanour method. Third type is the synchronous demeanour method. Fourth type is the synchronous demeanour method. A typical example of the asynchronous and non-demeanour method is e-mail. The example of the synchronous and non-demeanour method is tele conference. The example of the asynchronous demeanour method is video recordings. The example of synchronous and demeanour method is video conference. The primary benefit of e-mail is to avoid the physical violence. But the costs of email is the lack of emotional aspects of disputants. The benefits of tele conference is ease of use, and reduces the negative aspects of face to face communication. but the costs are limitation of the exchange of written information. The benefits of video conference is the approximation of face to face communication by providing oral as well as visual communication. but it is insufficient to represent eye contact. The common limitations of ODR are as follows. First is the lack of human face. Second is the neutrality of arbitrators and mediators. Third is the authenticity of electronic document. Fourth is the digital divide across South and North and generations. Fifth is the cross-cultural communication. The development strategy of ODR is the training and education of arbitrators and mediators in the area of writing skill. Furthermore, it is necessary to supplement the weakness of email via diverse kinds of expressions to show emotions. Finally, it is necessary to train neutrals in the area of cross-cultural communication.
Objectives: This research is to provide the basic data for the improvement on oral health by examining the relationship between the dental fear and the dental service utilization, and to discuss a strategy for dental health in order to lower the level of dental fear. Methods: Data were collected by conducting a structured survey of 1,607 people between the age of 13 and 70 who have experiences in visiting a dental institution. Both univariate and multivariate analyses were employed to analyze the relationship between the number of times dental service and dental fears. Results: The average level of dental fear the respondents reported was $52.16{\pm}15.71$ and 31.5% of the response was at the level of high dental fear. A strong physiologic response during the dental treatment was muscle tension and the stimulations that strongly arouse the dental fear were the anaesthetic needle and the sound of drill. A result of analysis on the relationship between the dental fear and the dental service utilization shows that as the level of dental fear became higher, the number of times for the dental service utilization for the last year had reduced. Also when a patient has an experience of putting off or canceling an appointment due to dental fear and as a physiologic response during the dental treatment became stronger, the result shows a tendency that the number of times for the dental service utilization for the last year had reduced. Conclusions: It has been observed that dental fear is one of the main barrier to use dental service. Therefore, a physio-psychological factor like the dental fear should be included in the task of promotion of dental health, and in analyzing the dental service utilization behavior. A discussion about how to lower dental fear was made with respect to oral health promotion. At individual level, improvement of communication skill by dental service providers should be made with rearrangement of clinic environment into more cozy one.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the awareness towards employment in the dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 425 dental hygiene students in Chungcheongdo and Gyeongsangdo from July to September, 2014. Except incomplete answer, 401 data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 program. The questionnaire consisted of three questions of general characteristics of the subjects, nine questions of awareness towards employment, six questions of awareness of employment preparation, and eleven questions of awareness of employment outlook. Results: The dental hygiene students prefer to dental hygiene related institution including dental hospital, dental clinic, general hospital, and university hospital. The awareness for the knowledge of desired employment institution was average. The main access for the information of the employment was internet, and senior and professor's advice, The most important preparations for the employment were a practical skill, trust, certificate, license, communication skill and English proficiency. The future outlook for the dental hygienist within five years was not optimistic, and the best way to overcome the weka point was specialization of the dental hygienist. Conclusions: This study will provide the useful information on improvement of employment strategy program for dental hygiene students.
The purpose of this study is to use basic data of dental hygiene curriculum with a new technique called motivational interviewing of communication skill to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method of oral health care. In this study, we performed oral health care program that has been made in dental hygiene department to university students. It was assigned to the control group and 66 and 32 experimental group based on the date of the first visit time. It conducted motivational interviewing of a total of three times in the experimental group. The analytical results of the measurements obtained in the oral examination and questionnaires. The results were as follows: The experimental group measured value was reduced after the intervention compared to before the PSR to evaluate the state of periodontal, gingival index, calculus index, plaque control record (PCR; O'Leary plaque index), simple plaque scor of Quantitative Light Induced Fluorescnece Digital measurement value (p<0.05). Experimental group decreased more and more the result of changes in the reduction of the average of the PCR. But control group was reduced to 3 weeks and increased back to the middle 16 weeks. There was also support interaction between the measurement point and the groups (p<0.05). Re-visit adherence of fit, 12.1% in the control group, the experimental group was 43.7% in the period of participation in the oral health care program. Thus, visit adherence of the experimental group was higher. In this study, a group that has motivational interviewing, It was able to confirm the improvement of oral health state. Discussion of the motivational interviewing can be applied to oral health care program.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the content analysis of daily tooth cleaning service records by caregivers in a long-term care facility. Methods: The data were analyzed by qualitative research based on content analysis of the daily records of the processes and results of daily tooth cleaning service. Twenty caregivers provided tooth, gum and denture cleaning service after breakfast, lunch, and dinner to 48 elderly residents. The study lasted about two weeks(from August 4 to August 20, 2014). The researcher reconstructed the language by repeatedly reviewing the caregivers statements in the records. The content categories were derived from the records through a reiterative manual comparative analysis. Using constant comparison method, reconstructed meanings were incorporated into various meanings and reanalyzed by final categories called as analytic coding. In order to validate the reliability, 6 times of discussion made the common meanings through a master's degree student and a dental hygiene professor. Results: The caregivers identified lack of understanding and ability to recognize the functional physical and mental changes in the elderly. The elderly had difficulty in recognizing silent communication and daily tooth cleaning. The caregivers were so strenuous in taking care of the daily tooth cleaning service for the elderly. At last, they gave up the daily tooth cleaning service and took on it to the guardians. They found that there was no social supporting network for oral health of the elderly residents. Conclusions: Caregivers had insufficient understanding of the functional physical and mental changes in the elderly residents, and they had difficulty providing daily tooth cleaning service to the elderly due to poor skill and abilities.
