  • A mixed adsorbent prepared by pyrolysing a mixture of carbon and flyash in 1:1 ratio was tested for its deceleration ability for three different classes of dyes namely, Astrazone Blue FRR(Basic Blue 69), Teflon flue ANL(Acid Blue 125) and Verofix Red(Reactive Red 3GL). Kinetic analyses were carried out at the optimum conditions obtained by the author in the previous studies. The data was fitted with three kinetic model equations. The results showed that the dye uptake mechanism followed the second-order rate expression.

  • This study presents the effect of incorporating metakaolin (MK) on the mechanical and durability properties of high strength concrete for a constant water/binder ratio of 0.3.MK mixtures with cement replacement of 5, 10 and 15 % were designed for target strength and slump of 90 MPa and $100{\pm}25mm$. From the results, it was observed that 10 % replacement level was the optimum level in terms of compressive strength. Beyond 10 %replacement levels, the strength was decreased but remained higher than the control mixture. Compressive strength of 106 MPa was achieved at 10 % replacement. Splitting tensile strength and elastic modulus values have also followed the same trend. In durability tests MK concretes have exhibited high resistance compared to control and the resistance increases as the MK percentage increases. This investigation has shown that the local MK has the potential to produce high strength and high performance concretes.

  • In this study, a comprehensive laboratory experimental programme was conducted on expansive soil with a high swelling potential to study the influence of different additive materials on swelling pressure and index properties. Lime, sand, multifilament fiber and fibrillated fiber were used for stabilization of expansive soil. Lime, sand and fibers were respectively added to the expansive soil at 0-7%, 0-80%, 0-0.5%. On each mixture that was prepared by the proportions mentioned above, Atterberg limits, compaction, and swelling pressure tests were conducted. From the result of these experiments, the swelling pressure-time relation could be replaced by a rectangular hyperbola established to facilitate the prediction of ultimate percent swelling with a few initial data points. The best type of additive and its optimum ratio for engineering purposes could be estimated rapidly by this approach.

  • In this paper, various of experiments were performed for checking the usefulness of Pozzolan Inorganic Polymer(PIP) Waterproof Admixture. The results of the experiment enabled to set the optimum mixture ratio of PIP waterproof admixture as 3.5%. Then, the test specimen mixed with PIP waterproof admixture was produced and consider whether meeting the quality standard of waterproofing admixture for concrete (KS F 4926) From the results, all the items such as mechanical properties and durability were meet the quality standard of KS. The PIP waterproof admixture concrete shows the high resistance of absorption, permeability and chloride ion penetration thanks to its internal components such as siliceous powder, zinc stearate and dispersive polymer.

  • Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) was successfully grown on Ni coated silicon wafer substrate by applying PECVD technique(Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition). As a catalyst, Ni thin film of thickness ranging from 15∼30nm was prepared by electron beam evaporator method. In order to find the optimum growth condition, the type of the gas mixture such as C$_2$H$_2$-NH$_3$was systematically investigated by adjusting the gas mixing ratio in temperature of 600$^{\circ}C$ under the pressure of 0.4 torr. The diameter of the grown CNTs was 40∼150nm. As NH$_3$etching time increased the diameters of the nanotubes decreased whereas the density of nanotubes increased. TEM images clearly demonstrated synthesized nanotubes was multiwalled. We investigated electrical properties for the application of FED.

  • The development of a new type of soil-cement concrete pavement using volcaniclastic is the main purpose of this study. Various mixture ratios, specimens' penetration resistance, time of setting, slump flow of fleshly mixed concrete, compressive strength and color characteristics of hardened concrete were studied. It was concluded that the optimum weight ratio of cement:volcaniclastic to produce good properties of soil-cement concrete is 1:3 and the use of volcaniclastic as main aggregate can improve the concrete surface color that is warm earth-tone road color. Therefore, commercial development for soil-cement concrete pavement using volcaniclastic is highly promising.

  • This paper presents the characteristics of Ta-N thin-film for high precision resistors, which were deposited on Si substrate by DC reactive magnetron sputtering in an argon-nitrogen atmosphere(Ar-(4~16 %)$N_2$). Structural properties studied using X-ray diffraction(XRD) indicate the presence of TaN, $Ta_3N_5$ or a mixture of Ta-N phases in the films depending on the amount of nitrogen in the sputtering gas. The chemical composition are investigated by auger electro spectroscopy(AES). The optimized conditions of Ta-N thin-film resistors were deposited in 4 % $N_2$ gas flow ratio. Under optimum conditions, the Ta-N thin-film resistors are obtained a high resistivity, $\rho=305.7{\mu}{\Omega}cm$, a low temperature coefficient of resistance, TCR=-36 $ppm/^{\circ}C$.

  • In recent years, hydrogen-oxygen mixed gas generated by electrically dissociating water has been proposed as alternative cutting fuel. The mixed gas consists of a hydrogen-oxygen mixed gas in the mixture ratio of 2:1. And gas has some merits as cutting quality and speed compared with existing gas cutting process. Because main source of mixed gas is water, mixed gas is environmental-friendly clean fuel. The purpose of the present paper is to investigate cutting characteristics and optimum cutting parameters of mixed gas, The effect of cutting parameter on the cutting characteristics of mixed gas is also investigated as compared to existing gas cutting process.

  • Optimum reaction conditions for the preparation of extra-light magnesium carbonate from bittern by the reaction with sodium carbonate solution was found to be as follows: reaction temperature 33.deg. molar ratio(Mg$^{+2}/CO$^{2-}_{3}$)0.8, reaction time 14 minutes, drying temperature 99.deg. and bittern concentration 17%. While Korean pharmacopeia regulates the bulkiness above 12 mililiters per gm., our experimental result shows above 45 mililiters. Electron microscopic shapes were compared with products prepared under various reaction conditions, and it was found that there exists lighter the powder the more pillar crystalline, the heavier the powder the more amorphous and the intermediate was mixture of them.

  • The purpose of this study was to optimum the desirable mixture ratio of aronia powder to rice flour for preparation of sulgidduk. The moisture of samples ranged from 39.93% to 42.80%. The pH of samples decreased with increasing amounts of aronia powder. L- and b-values decreased, while a-value increased, with increasing amounts of added aronia powder. As the level of aronia powder increased, hardness of samples decreased while their springiness and chewiness increased. As aronia powder content increased, 1,1-diphenyl-2picriylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging also significantly increased. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM; ${\times}30$) showed that air cell size on the sulgidduk surface increased with amount of aronia. Consequently, the addition of 3% aronia powder to rice flour was determined to be best formula for aronia sulgidduk in terms of sensory qualities such as appearance, flavor, texture, taste and overall acceptability.
