Design of multi-span steel box girder using lion pride optimization algorithm

  • In this research, a newly developed nature-inspired optimization method, the Lion Pride Optimization algorithm (LPOA), is utilized for optimal design of composite steel box girder bridges. A composite box girder bridge is one of the common types of bridges used for medium spans due to their economic, aesthetic, and structural benefits. The aim of the present optimization procedure is to provide a feasible set of design variables in order to minimize the weight of the steel trapezoidal box girders. The solution space is delimited by different types of design constraints specified by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. Additionally, the optimal solution obtained by LPOA is compared to the results of other well-established meta-heuristic algorithms, namely Gray Wolf Optimization (GWO), Ant Lion Optimizer (ALO) and the results of former researches. By this comparison the capability of the LPOA in optimal design of composite steel box girder bridges is demonstrated.

  • Eddy current is usually generated in the material with high conductivity by time-varying source such as AC current and also is induced by the moving source with relative velocity. The contactless magnetic brake makes use of the braking force from the eddy current generated by the moving source and currently used for the secondary brakes of heavy trucks, buses and rail vehicles. This study aims to design the magnetization pattern of the eddy current brake system of a permanent magnet type where the design aim is to maximize the braking force. The analysis of brake systems is based on the two-dimensional finite element analysis. We use the sequential linear programming as the optimizer and the adjoint variable method is applied for the sensitivity analysis.

  • This paper investigate the optimum thickness distribution of plate structure with different essential boundary conditions in the fundamental natural frequency maximization problem. In this study, the fundamental natural frequency is considered as the objective function to be maximized and the initial volume of structures is used as the constraint function. The computer-aided geometric design (CAGD) such as Coon's patch representation is used to represent the thickness distribution of plates. A reliable degenerated shell finite element is adopted calculate the accurate fundamental natural frequency of the plates. Robust optimization algorithms implemented in the optimizer DoT are adopted to search optimum thickness values during the optimization iteration. Finally, the optimum thickness distribution with respect to different boundary condition

  • The Permanent Magnet Brushless DC (PMBLDC) motors have been used in modern industrial factories, hazardous chemical process, modern medical devices, and especially in advanced military devices such as army drones. By considering their sensitive role in the industrial and military applications, their optimal design has a real concern. This paper proposes a method for optimal eco-design of a PMBLDC motor using improved tabu search optimization. The objective function is based on losses, volume and cost. Electrical and mechanical requirements and other limitations are combined into constraints of problem. Also, finite element analysis has been used for verifications in magnetic mode.

  • The goal of this study is to investigate computational convergence of optimal solutions, with respect to optimality criteria (OC) method and methods of moving asymptotes (MMA) as optimization model for non-linear programming of material topology optimization using an acceleration method that makes design variables rapidly move toward almost 0 and 1 values. 99 line topology optimization MATLAB code uses loop vectorization and memory pre-allocation as properly exploiting the strengths of MATLAB and moves portions of code out of the optimization loop so that they are only executed once as restructuring the program. Numerical examples of a simple beam under a lateral load and a given material density limitation provide merits and demerits of the present OC and MMA for 99 line topology optimization code of continuous material topology optimization design.

  • Recently, a multi facility, multi product and multi period industrial problem has been widely investigated in Supply Chain Management (SCM). One of the key issues in the current SCM research area involves reducing both production and distribution costs. The purpose of this study is to determine the optimum quantity of production and transportation with minimum cost in the supply chain network. We have presented a mathematical model that deals with real world factors and constraints. Considering the complexity of solving such model, we have applied the genetic algorithm approach for solving this model using a commercial genetic algorithm based optimizer. The results for computational experiments show that the real size problems we encountered can be solved in reasonable time.

  • Most data parallel language compilers are source-to-source translators. Most Compilers of HPF which is recognized as a standard data parallel language convert a parallel program in PHF in a Fortran 77 program inserted message passing primitives. By the way, they currently generate significant amount of ineffective codes in the course of the conversion. Especially, FORALL construct is converted into several DO loops, so loop overhead of these codes is very increased. In this paper, we define and use relation distance vector to keep necessary informations. Then we evaluate and analyze execution time for the codes converted by our method and by PARADIGM method for various array sizes.

  • 태양광 발전 시스템 구현에 있어 가장 큰 문제점 중 하나는 불균일한 태양빛 조건에서의 전체 시스템 발전량 감소이다. 이를 해결하기 위해 module-integrated converter (MIC), dc optimizer, differential power processing (DPP) 등 다양한 컨버터가 연구되고 있다. 그 중에서도 DPP 컨버터는 낮은 전력변환 손실로 높은 시스템 효율을 얻을 수 있어 최근 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 보통 그리드 연결형 태양광발전 시스템에 적용되는 직렬 DPP의 경우, 이미 많은 연구가 진행되고 있지만, 병렬 DPP의 경우 아직 많은 연구가 필요한 상황이다. 본 논문에서는 front-end 컨버터의 존재 유무에 따른 두 가지 병렬 DPP 컨버터 배열을 비교 분석 하였다. Front-end 컨버터가 적용된 병렬 DPP 컨버터 배열의 경우, dc 전압과 태양전지의 전압 차이를 최소화해 전력 변환 손실을 감소시킬 수 있지만, front-end 컨버터에서 추가적인 전력 변환 손실이 발생한다. Front-end 컨버터가 없는 경우, dc 전압과 태양전지의 전압차이가 커 DPP 컨버터에서 발생하는 전력 변환 손실이 커진다. 따라서 주어진 조건 아래 효율적인 병렬 DPP 컨버터 디자인을 위한 가이드라인을 본 논문에서 제시하고자 한다.

  • 관계형 DBMS 질의 최적화기는 기본적으로 통계정보(statistics), 선택도(selectivity), 카디널리티(cardinality), 비용(cost) 순으로 특정 실행 계획(Execution Plan)의 수행비용을 예측한다. 질의 최적화기가 최적의 실행 계획을 선택하는데 있어서 정확한 통계정보 유지와 올바른 선택도 그리고 카디널리티 예측이 무엇 보다 중요하다. 이 논문에서는 관계형 DBMS의 질의 최적화기가 비용을 계산하는 과정에서 발생할 수 있는 오류의 종류와 원인을 밝히고 각각의 오류에 대한 해결 방안을 진단 도구를 통하여 제시하도록 하겠다. 질의 최적화기의 오류로 인해 발생하는 잘못된 선택도와 카디널리티 예측을 인지하고 사용자에게 적절한 해결책을 제시한 후 실행 계획이 어떻게 바뀌었는지, 성능이 얼마나 향상되었는지를 확인하기 위해 진단 도구를 개발하고 그 결과를 분석하였다. 실험을 통해 본 논문에서 제시하는 질의 최적화기의 오류로 인한 문제를 가시적으로 확인할 수 있었으며, 부정확한 통계정보 유지와 잘못된 선택도 예측으로 인해 발생하는 문제가 어느 정도 해결된 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
